Too much of the time I'm listening to the Devil's Symphony - that is the screech of the tinnitus

But right now it's Leontyne Price singing "Thy hand, Belinda!" from Dido & Aeneas - much more pleasant :) I seem to be on an opera roll these days.

Black lava rock, white snow - definitely photogenic, and very well captured :) And yes, the weather there doesn't usually stay like that for too long at a time!

Ahlan wa sahlan from Norway. It would sure be nice if Ricoh/Pentax was more visible in the world of photography, but I think they are on the right track. New cameras and lenses do appear if rather more slowly than one could wish. For me personally, though, I find I have what I need of lenses. (That's not to say I will not buy more of them...!) New camera bodies come and go, but I think/hope the K-1 will serve me for a few more years!

Good to have you with us!

The price doesn't matter much, and I suppose having to subscribe to "processing as a service" isn't too bad (sort of like renting time in a darkroom). But I don't like the idea that I am forced to pay a monthly fee if I want to have continued access to the catalogue with the changes I have already made to my images. They are my changes to my images.

But hey, it's Adobe's product and they can choose whatever business model they please. That is an inherent property of closed source programs. Luckily there are good alternatives out there, even if changing is a pain.

What do you use the function dial for?

I rarely use the third wheel. I thought I would use it for ISO, but find it hard to turn it with my thumb only. Much easier to do that the old way. On the rare occasion when I want to toggle the SR, though, it's easier to use the wheel than any menu. I suppose crop mode could be a candidate, but then I prefer cropping in post anyway - and I rarely need the higher frame rate. User modes would be great (if there are good options to fill the modes with).

All in all I think I'd prefer a larger LCD panel instead, but just as the disused video switch on the K-3 doesn't bother me much, neither do the extra wheels.

They do make the K-1 just a bit more special :)

Since we are talking about Finns.... yes.

But trying to do a search on Finnair's booking system for a flight from Singapore to Helsinki I just get
"An error occurred while sending the data. Please try later again. "

...so that went to HEL.

Indeed you do! Previously I have mainly used the Silver Efex module, but this last month or so I have started experimenting with Color Efex as well. Doing my best to overdo it and stack lots of filters :D When I know where the limits go I can dial back and make proper use of the tools.

Thanks for hosting and for providing a challenging image to work on!

Yes, my 55-300 has always done a great job. Which is why I'd like to find it usable on the K-1 as well. I have an FA*300 as well, but I can't really say I can easily tell the difference. At twice the weight I think I should ;) Of course, that weight gives me a full size image - and (almost) a stop extra.

I'm not used to ranking art, and I must say it is hard and rather frustrating! Too many worthy entries... but here goes!

#3 The strict and robust lines and angles from paulh is mercilessly striking as the viewer gets pulled into darkness.

#2 Jacquot's shadowy multitude of lines is almost abstract in its form, the stability of the verticals battling the destabilising diagonals.

#1 The winner for me is the journey through the wormhole :) Congrats to @kwb!

Thanks to all participants for making my job a very difficult one, and best of luck to kwb with hosting the next one!

So... While you were downing bottles of bourbon, driving the boat at speed towards the eye of a tornado, you were shooting wildly in all directions?! No wonder you almost got killed!

Yes, "shaving" the 10-17 is tempting, but I don't think I will mechanically assault any of my lenses in that way  For now I'm content with using it as is. I still like the results it provides.

 No! I do not need any more excuses to buy anything. At all.

But yes, the DFA fishy you describe would be very nice. Of course, size is always important to me. Big lenses just don't get used, no matter how good they are.

Ok, I guess I do need another fisheye  If they can make a full frame 10-17 anything near as compact as the DA I'd be all over it.

The Rokinon I find too bulky as it is so it rarely leaves the shelf. It's a fun lens, though. And 8mm for 135 format would be interesting. Impossible not to get your feet in the frame, but interesting.

Good question. Haven't really thought of that. I think you see the same on the lighter line above the black keys and also the gap in the wood top left. I guess the bokeh spreads out more than the "original" line bends the other way? Had there been no barrel distortion I would think the bokeh would have formed a straight line outwards.

Or I might be completely wrong :)

No matter, great image and clever title!
