USD1618 is a lot of money to ask for a K-3 II, but this one comes with a 16-85mm kit lens. That makes it all right, I guess.

Some say that the f/1.7 is sharper than the more expensive f/1.4. I have both and I agree. The f/2 is also a gem. Somebody buy these before I get any ideas. My copy of the f/2 is a little rough...

There is something ominous about a guy wearing armor and wielding a broadsword. The picture has caught that mood very well.

It would help to know which lens or lenses you have in mind to use with this wondrous new converter. Something like a 200/2.8 prime would work well, a 70-300/4-5.6 zoom not so much. You will be losing one stop of light and contrast and the AF sensor in the body needs everything it can get. Speaking of bodies, which one did you have in mind? I would not use a new K3 III for this sort of work...

Compatible lens hoods for SMC Pentax 55mm F1.8
Posted By Wasp

If you use an APS-C body, the 1.5 crop factor means that it acts like an 83mm lens. An original 55mm lens hood will work but it will not be optimal. A lens hood made for an 85mm prime is what you want if maximum shading is the goal. If you want a Pentax branded one, the SMC Pentax 85mm f/1.8 has a 52mm filter thread. The model number is PH-R52. Finding such a hood on its own might not be easy. Might as well get the lens too, hehehe.

Besides the OVF, there is another thing to consider when making such a move. It is crop factor. If you get an APS-C body, it will change from 2 to 1.5 (relative to 35mm full-frame).

The two lenses that you mention are not direct equivalents because of this. Applying the crop factors, the Pentax equates to 75-203mm f/4.2 and the Olympus to 80-300mm f/5.6. The f numbers mentioned relate to depth of field only - exposure stays the same.

The Pentax will therefore have less reach but also less depth of field. In the latter case, less is more - as in more control over blurring backgrounds. The reasons (and math) for that are a topic all of its own and I will not go into it now.

All the best with your endeavors. ;)

Money laundering is a thing these days.

The proceeds of crime are increasingly laundered online, using methods ranging from improbably expensive ebooks and eBay listings to cryptocurrencies such as ZCash and thousands of micropayments through online transaction systems (The Guardian). Research indicates that around $200 billion is laundered online every year, of a worldwide money laundering total estimated by the UN to be in the region of $2 trillion. Other 'cyberlaundering' tactics for erasing the criminal origins of money include using Uber to book "ghost journeys", booking Airbnb rooms that will never be used and buying and selling expensive, tradeable items in games including FIFA and CounterStrike.

I just realized that the range of Pentax lenses from the manual focus era is absolutely vast. Upon reflection, I don't think there is a dud among them as far as primes go. There are some that are quite stellar and the prices reflect that. On the whole, there is something to suit every budget.

As far as MF zooms go, I only have a CPC 80-200mm which is surprisingly good. This means that I am not qualified to judge Pentax zooms. The internet commentariat suggest that there some not so good one, so YMMV applies, I guess.

My favorite mirrorless camera - the Samsung NX1 - is listed as number 44 of 282 Samsung cameras. The top echelon is made up of phones. Not quite what I would call useful information. Their graph does show that use of the NX1 is on the decline... :(

Samynag 8mm in K mount on Samsung NX1 with adapter. The image is not de-fished and looks quite realistic, but the horizon gives it away. I was trying to get it in the middle of the frame but was off slightly. Drat, I will not pass that way again soon. :(

After a long drought, I have expanded my collection with an SMC Pentax 135mm f/2.5. It will go nicely with the SMC Pentax 135mm f/3.5 and 200mm f/2.5 that I already have. The SMC Pentax 85mm f/1.8 would round out my budding K series telephoto collection - maybe one day.

For now my Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 serves me well. What would be nice is the Rokinon 135mm f/2 to go with it, but they are fairly rare in K mount and I am not in any hurry. The new-to-me Pentax will do nicely for now.

You can't go wrong with an SMC Pentax 28mm. On a crop frame body such as your Fuji it is not that wide - about equivalent to a 40mm on full frame. That is just the way the cookie crumbles (and how the physics work). It works well as a walkabout lens. I used it on a Samsung NX100 while doing my daily commute many times. The colors are very nice but a touch warm on digital, but that was required by film back in the day.

Get one while they are cheap(ish). Even if you don't like it, you won't lose a lot of money selling it on.

Of the above, my favorite is the SMC Pentax 50mm f/1.2. I only use it on my Samsung NX1 because manual focusing with an OVF is too much of a challenge.

The 50mm f/1.4 is quite good as well, and a lot more budget friendly. The f/1.2 is fairly rare and the prices are rising,

For street photography, the 20mm and 28mm work well. Once again, the 28mm is easier to get and way less expensive.

My SMC Pentax collection consists of the following
  • M 20mm f/4

  • A 24mm f/2.8

  • M 28mm f/2.8

  • K 50mm f/1.2

  • M 50mm f/1.4

  • M 50mm f/1.7

  • M 50mm f/2

  • A 50mm f/2.8 macro

  • M 100mm f/2.8

  • K 135mm f/3.5

  • K 135mm f/2.5

  • M 200mm f/4

  • K 200mm f/2.5

  • A 400mm f/5.6

As can be seen there is room for 15mm, 35mm, 85mm and 300mm primes in the stable. I do have some of those, but not in SMC Pentax. Maybe one day, no rush. For now, the 35mm spot is occupied by a vintage Takumar 35mm f/2.3 - lovely, but getting too valuable to take out of the house. I also have a Rokinon 8mm fisheye and 85mm f/1.4 that serves me well. In the 300mm corner I only have a tired old Tamron 300mm f/5.6.

Also bear in mind that the K5 II was considered to be a significant upgrade to the K5 when it came out. I would hold out for a K5 II in good shape. They are all quite old and spares for repair could be hard to find. If you get one with issues, it could end in tears.
