Have you turned the focus ring to manual mode? You should also have the aperture set to "A".

I had the same experience with my K-x several years ago. It never happens again after changing to Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable AA batteries.

Thoughts on the Canon CanoScan 9000F Mark II (or alternatives), please?

I am using the CanoScan 9000F Mark II to scan my films that have been taken years ago. I can only scan 3-4 rolls of films each of 36 frames in a day. It supports USB2 is a limitation and needs reset in some cases, not very often. The output is acceptable but it takes much longer time for the best quality.

Thailand - what lens to take?

When you buy a gear, you know everything of it and you are ready to take it to anywhere with you. I always have 7 to 10kg on my back together with some lens in the apartment/hotel. I know what I am going to shoot on that particular day and pick the bodies and lens with me. I will be regretted if I miss the chance because I don't have the right gear with me.

Will K-1 SR handle 150-450 + 1.4xTC?

I am using the 150-450mm with HD TC1.4x on K3 handheld, the results were very acceptable! The small butterfly was 1/125s and the dragonfly was 1/1000s. The two photos are straight from camera without any post-processing.

Thank you very much!
I did so and seemed the colour looks better. However, after I trimmed it to centre, this chart disappeared when I enter to the trimming menu again!

K3 White Balance changed

I have encountered a problem with the AWB when it works with built-in flash or AF540FGZ II these 2 days. It functioned pretty well all before but it suddenly have a problem that the WB charts were all shifted! I don't know if it is because of something changed or other issues! I found the K3 is far too easy to have the four arrows key accidentally changed the settings!

I have just made a firmware upgrade to V1.21 for it but I still cannot see some of the charts of WB on the LCD! Such that I don't know what are those WB in form of the graphic charts!

Does anyone know how to retrieve the original charts settings? And also to have it properly displayed on the LCD when I select the WB setting!

The factory preset WB of the K3 is the best among all my cameras. I really want to have it fixed tonight as I am in a trip with my family! Thank you for all who can share and help me!

Should I upgrade my K20D to a K3?

I have just purchased a K3 a month ago and I have much fun with it when taking wildlife that the K5IIs cannot offer, its AF has much improved. The performance of high ISO at low light condition of K3 is very promising, but I still consider the K5IIs a better option when taking photos at low light condition, may be due to its larger pixel size of sensor. I think the K5IIs, and even the K-x are great cameras for portrait, landscape and daily life photo taking. In general, I recommend people to put priority to lens instead of camera, because most of the time the limitations come from photographer and the lens rather than the camera, as Soti mentioned. Another consideration is that the camera will be fading out very soon when a new body comes up, while good lens never.

If you have to choose between K3 or K3ii, the consideration will be whether you are going to use the extra features of K3ii. To me, K3 is a great choice!

Bad noise at 100 ISO?

I am just saying that I cannot do it with Nikon because I don't have Nikon with VR (if you look at my Nikon gears)! I have several tripods but I did not use tripod for most of the time, especially when shooting moon when I use shutter speed less than 1/40 sec.
If you found it offensive, I can change the wordings to "I could not do it with my Nikon gears".
I am happy with my gears, no matter that is Nikon or Pentax, otherwise I won't keep it!

Bad noise at 100 ISO?

I have taken photos of the moon several times and I did not use the dark frame. The moon light is very bright and I can take it with ISO100 - 400 depend on light conditions, with F=8 to 10. I am very happy with the images thanks to the SR feature of Pentax, I could not replicate it with Nikon!
Below is one photo taken with K5IIs + HD1.4x + DFA300/f4.0.

K3 vs K3ii

I picked the K-3 a week ago because I don't think GPS is important to me. Before the purchase, I was worrying about the noise with higher ISO along with the higher pixels count but it seems that it has controlled the noise quite well. The autofocus has great improvement against K5IIs! Won't be a wrong decision!

Pentax has a big problem in Hong Kong. The distributor is not making any activity nor services to us. The major stores are not selling Pentax any more and I have to order my gears from overseas! I hope Pentax would address to it and taking care of the Pentax users in Hong Kong.

AF540FGZ II - Cannot detect the focal of the len

I have just received a AF540FGZ II and K3 (firmware version - 1.11), I found that it always indicates 20mm (13mm when idle) on the LCD display of the flash when it is in P-TTL mode. The same problem occurred when I used the K5IIs (firmware version 1.06) as well. I have tried with several lens such as 50/1.8, 31/1.8, FA*28-70/2.8 and even DA300/4.0! I tried with my AF-360FGZ and there is no problem. Is there any one has similar experiences and/or has any solution to it? Please advise.

Sorry, I have just sorted it out. The len's focal length is fixed when I pulled the lip (wide angle panel) out of the flash! This is a new experience to me!

auto teleconverter problem

It seems that I have the problem as you have recently. I owned Vivitar 1.4x Tele Converters for Pentax and Nikon for several years respectively. Both are working well with all my lens (except those K series old lens) in autofocus. Recently I bought the Pentax DA300mm/f4.0 and found that the converter did not support this len. My thinking is that it cannot support those SDM lens and may have to get a DA HD AW 1.4x rear converter for this one!

It mentioned control with smartphone or tablet! I think that is much better than tilt display, especially when taking photo in low light condition.

Thanks a lot, stormtech and littledrawe. The information is very useful for me, but it is still a good question to determine which one to go. The DA* is weather sealing, APS-C, a bit heavier, current product but more expensive; FA* is lighter, FF, discont and hard to find, without tripod mount (hand held is good enough, I suppose).

It comes to another question: just from the point of view of performance, how is FA*300mm/f4.5 vs DA 300mm/f4.0?

Hi, I am new to this forum.
Does anyone has any idea about the performance of a FA*200mm/f2.8 with a Vivitar 1.4x vs FA*300mm/f4.5? I have FA*200mm/f2.8 and the 1.4x, is it worth to buy the FA*300mm/f4.5?
