Thank you for your prices comparison, but it would be fairer if you include Tamrons 15-30/2.8 and 24-70/2.8 instead of Canon and Nikon lenses.

Glad to hear it. I wasn't that lucky. Servicemen told me that repair will cost about $370. But they realize that situation is not very pleasant, so they decided to give me 50% discount.

Well, may be it really is. I shoot many times under a rain with my former cameras: K-7, K-5 and K-5II with 18-55 WR, 18-135 and 60-250.. and everything was ok.. But the first rain with K-3II... and it's broken...

I was shooting under the moderate rain with K-3II and DA16-85. After a couple of hours exposure meter of the camera stopped working. Actually it was not very active shooting - I've taken just a dozen of pictures. I took the camera to authorised service center and reply I got from them embarassed me:

"The cause of the malfunction was the liquid entering the internal components of the camera.
K-3II does not have a design regulated by JIS and / or IP standards, therefore it is not sealed, so it must be protected from rain and splashes.
Based on the above facts, it can be concluded that the malfunctions identified during the diagnosis are not classified as production flaw. Camera repair is not possible under warranty."

So what's the point in weather resistance like this?

We didn't communicate by e-mail. He told me that when I brought my broken K-3II to them for repair and we had some discussion with him about KP vs K-3II.

Yes it happens with K-3 and earlier cameras too. Sometimes it focuse on a background if it's more contrasty than the object. And looks like it is lens dependant.. Although I can't find an explanation to this :) DA 40 is known as the lens most affected to this.

BTW A friend of mine who has Nikon D7100 said me he experienced this too..

I may try, but I don't think they will share the knowledge, because they earn money with it :)

P.S. Actually they don't even allow direct communication of customers with servicemen. You can only communicate with receptionist, who knows very little.

Unfortunately I don't know how to do it. When SDM in my 60-250 died, I went to repair service, and they offered me two options: to replace the motor for about $300 or convert it do screwdrive only for about $50. I chose the latter.

Should I go for 16-85 or 20-40?

Well may be.. As for me I'm fed up with switching lenses in travel. So having the opportunity of using one lens for 95% of photos without compromising IQ is a big relief :) Now I usually take in travel with me only 16-85 and DA 50/1.8 (to be replaced with *55/1.4 soon). If I'm not going to safari, of course :).

If your goal is taking pictures rather than showing off :D (just joking - no intention to offend owners), then buy 16-85. It's versatile and very high quality lens. I went this way - sold my 18-135 and bought 16-85. IMO 20-40 is strange lens: not so fast and very limited FL range.

DFA*50 1.4 coming

I think they designed such a big lens to increase its image circle way above 24x36 mm to use only the best, core part of it to obtain sharpness from border to border. Also they might made it with real aperture of 0.7 or so and diaphragmed it down to 1.4 to decrease aberrations.

What about 16-50 and 50-135? They are * and they were developed together with Tokina, as far as I remember. So * itself doesn't make it necessarily 100% Pentax.

Can you tell what kind of improvement? AF-S on K-3II was already ok. It was AF-C that surely needed improvement :)

I made direct comparison of RAWs from K-70 and K-3II. RAWs of K-70 had less noise and more details. I would estimate it as about 0.5-0.7 stops advantage of K-70 over K-3Ii. So this accelerator does very good job even on RAWs. And they claim new generation sensor in KP. So I look forward quite optimistic on KP's low light performans in RAWs too.

I think it depends on low light performance of KP. If it's really that extraordinary good as it seems from the specs, then it may worth buying. If it's only slightly better than K-70's, then I would buy the latter.
