Bob,
If your friend happens to be in Yellowknife, or on the highway to Yellowknife, or even working in the diamond mines North of Yellowknife. I may be able to deliver her a Vivitar (made by Casio) SLR in person. It would need a battery. I used it 2 years ago in the far North, and it worked fine. However the film didn't advance properly for me once, so I lost faith in it after loosing some wolf shots from 10 feet away.
I think that I have a 28mm lens on it, plus I believe that I have a 135mm that would fit too. It's a M42 mount.

I've gotten some great B&W pics with filters and also some great ones without filters.
My policy is to leave the filter off when I don't know which colour would be best.
Plus you'll learn that some films don't need the same filters as others.
For example Kodak Tmax films have a purple dye.
So I always use a lighter filter with it than I would with Ilford which uses a much lighter Blue Dye.
Which brings up another point.
When developing Tmax films I always pre-wash them until the water remains clear. In my experience this takes about 5 minutes with a Paterson daylight tank with a slow steady drip.
Otherwise all your chemistry looks contaminated instantly.
I'm not as worried with Ilford, since it isn't as obvious.

Abandoned II
Shot on a Linhof 4x5.
With a Schneider 135mm lens.
Just a negative scanned by a friend on an unknown scanner.
The Politician
Shot on a Burke and James 5x7 with a Rodenstock 300mm lens.
The negative was Drum scanned by the same friend.
Not named
Calumet 4x5 monorail camera.
Schneider 135mm lens.
Flash Bulb
Kodak Portra 160 film.
Scanned by same friend on unknown scanner.
Rogers Pass, British Columbia
Fuji Velvia 50
Burke and James 5x7
Rodenstock 210mm lens.
Film was my first attempt at developing my own slide film.
The slide was photographed on a light table using my Sigma SD14
Seeing a 5x7 inch colour slide in person for the first time is amazing.
Although not shot on film this is my Burke and James in Rogers Pass right after the shot.
Shot with my Sigma SD14.
Oh, that's a Majestic Gear Tripod head under the camera.

I know someone that throws 2 spotmatics, plus 1 K1000 in his iceroad truck then goes bouncing on some of the roughest temp roads in the world.
None of the Pentax cameras have ever developed a problem.
He can't say the same about a Vivitar film camera he brought once, where the film advance broke and he lost some Wolf photos from around 10 feet away.

I have tomorrow off work, so if they're out of the house by noon I'll be mostly moved in by this time tomorrow night.

To be fair, it took me a while to figure out what I was looking for while looking through the DOF preview.
At first i thought it was just the image getting darker ;)
Now i find it hard living without one on my PZ-20. I think I'll stick to screwmount lenses on that camera just because of that.

It seems that I've been spending way too much time in front of the computer, and spending way too little time doing things I love.... like getting out there taking photographs.
So, I've decided to break away for a while, and do a little soul searching.
Since I'll be without internet for a couple of weeks, after my move in a few days I've decided that this is the perfect time to start.
So, before anyone started questioning what's up I thought that I'd let you all know. My last post, for now will be Friday evening, or earlier if I decide.
If, or when I decide to come back I'll most likely limit my posts to the Pentax Film forums. It's the only forum I've truly enjoyed participating in lately.
I would like to point out that my decision isn't based on the contest, although it didn't help with my decision.
Plus it isn't based on any members. It's just time for me to take the break.

Thanks for not deleting Gus's account quite yet Adam, it gave me a chance to send him an e-mail I should have sent days ago.
Although that's true, they also prefer it when people comment from the heart, and don't just say "Nice Pic" just to build up their post count.
Give me Quality over Quantity any day of the week.

I'm sure that you know this already, but the SP500 had a top speed of 1/1000. We just weren't supposed to try turning the dial to that setting and discover it was there ;)

I can't see it being the films fault, however it's only a couple of $ for a cheap roll of film at Walmart to test.
From what I can tell Walmart film is made by Fuji, and seems to be pretty decent stuff for the $. So it should be perfect for a test.

Ira, It's a good thing you didn't meet up with a fellow Pentaxian and give him the secret handshake infront of the officers, or you would have both been sent to jail for a long time :fedup: :lol:
How on earth did he know you were taking a pic, rather than just sending or receiving a text... or just looking to see who's calling ;)

That isn't a macro lens in any way. In some cases I think that some manufacturers are basically saying Macro on their lenses, to hopefully sucker more people into buying them.
In other cases they can focus a little closer than a sister lens.
Just so you know, I actually saw this fellows muscles tense up as he saw my lens getting closer and closer.
I was less than 2 inches away, using my DSLR.
So the close focus isn't limited to point & shoot's.

All that I can think of after seeing those pics is..... I wonder what the bokeh is like ;)
It'll be interesting to say the least, and may even somehow be pleasing.
If you decide to buy it, please take some pic's using it before the repair and post them.

We get the odd blank roll coming through the lab.
It's when we get 2 in a row coming through that we start wondering if somethings wrong with the machine.
C41 machines are such a basic design, nothing can really go wrong.
The machine just pulls the film through several vats of liquid, at the proper speed.
These fluids are all monitored with sensors, so we can't even start the process unless everything is right.

Since this is the film forum my guess is that you posted in the wrong section.
However, once you start using the preview button you'll never go back to some calculations.
You can pretty much see the effects happening before your eyes.

Sorry to bump this 2 day old post, but I wanted to say that it's a nice pic teatma,
In my opinion the softness works with a flower like the bleeding heart, which I have tried photographing before. They aren't always the easiest plant to work with.
Don't worry about the comment on the background. Although it's true to a point it isn't in your case... since the flower only looks right at certain angles.
About the only thing that I'd do is bump the contrast just a hair.
If I remember correctly, those that I've photographed have been 5 or so in a row on a stem. Are your wife's like that?
For all I know they all are, however I rarely see them, so I just don't know.
