What's up with my lens?

The curvature is like a fisheye lens effects. It is a natural effect and no way to correct it or I assumed the original lens was broken and replaced to this convex lens ( just guessing ).
If you only take photo of the whole wall, it is clear to see the non rectilinear mapping function of the lens. Fisheye lens is suggested for or good in Astrophotograph and cloud formation. It seems the vertical lines in the photo are not truly vertical - it might be the set up of camera is not aligned to vertical lines. As Alex said give as the data of the photo.

It takes time to find out where or what I am missing here.

To Normhead - nothing is personal to you. What happened is just a dream, lets forget about it. I hope you do.

Mark - thanks for your concern. I am using windows 10 with google browser, desktop computer, here is what happened;
I can not attached file/photo/illustration because it says " donate to increase your attachment ". When I click on the button " quote " nothing happened, sometimes this is not available on my window. Then I Proceeded to click post reply button, after logging in I can type text, paste previously copied texts, and recently can not use smilies. No "go advance" button is available when composing text. Active buttons are only preview post and submit reply. Yes I like to attach a screen shot similar to what you attached but i can not make it.
I do not know if this is due to Pentax forum website or my browser is limiting me to use all options. But my computer has no problem in all applications.
I am not a computer wizard and only knows the basic operation.
What do you think?

To EFats... sorry to make this way because my window do not have " quote " to click and paste the reply ;

I have not had a lot of indoor shots with flash yet. Generally I have not had great experience with any camera, I only have one external flash and the onboard flash that I usually have available doesn't give great results, it just gives me bad glare every where. It's a little bit better if I hack up something to diffuse and reflect the flash upwards, but again, general problem, not really specific to K-S2.
I have found that with the newer cameras, I can often get a decent picture in dimmer light without needing a flash and I general prefer the kind of "natural" colour I get without the flash.

Yes it is true that outdoor shots gives the great colors without flash and indoors shots are brighter with glare if no back lighting - shadows ruined the whole thing. After many trials using the built in flash with my ks2, Using Av mode, F5.6, ISO 100-400 auto, 0 EV, object distance is 12 ft., with hood, 18-50 mm lens or 28-105 mm, gives a nice result. Its better to make -1 EV, but i prefer 0 is good to my eye. Still a new learner.

Thanks everyone for your response as i said can not quote your reply because Adam said " go advance " I said i will just use what is available in this forum.

If you are looking for advice on using the K-S2 with flash, you might want to start a thread on that topic. Especially since the OP hasn't indicated that flash is a part of his photgraphy. You're odds of getting help here are pretty limited. Especially since using flash is probably a lot more dependant on flash technique than it is in differences on different cameras.

Normhead...thank you for the unsolicited advice. You should have not replied because it is not intended for you.

I can not tell the light affects the viewfinder.

Jim- please answer this question.

Jim - just little understanding about manual white balance is needed, as you said....." I've no idea how 'manual white balance' could have got set, as I don't touch that knowingly".

After taking a shot the image is seen on lcd and press green button to select the center image as measurement of light to take the whole image similar to the center, but do not press the shutter again because it will not process the correct color temperature of that next photo shoot., ( maybe it resulted as dark photo as i do not know the effect of it ) until camera is ready for the next shot.

Just take the auto white balance ( AWB ) and camera will select the best for you.
I believed that either you set as spot or center weighted is acceptable by practice and you will see the difference.

Other point to consider is clean your lens because this affect the auto focusing function of the camera.

One thing to consider is the manual white balance of the first two photos because they were taken simultaneously unlike the other photos of different time and dates.
When you fully pressed the shutter button and displayed on Lcd the captured image, did you press any arrow on the controller to specify the light measuring area? or press the green button to select the center as your choice. If you did not specify the measuring area, the resulting photo takes the kelvin temperature settings.

Pentaxphotosync is a paid app and this is not a free app from real Pentax/Ricoh.

My analysis on your story, it seems like a power on/off problem that occurs intermittently. "...The only thing is that the second photo was taken a few minutes later. I had turned the camera off and then back on. Photos were shot in the A (automatic) mode." , this is a kind of aperture block - I guess. Caused by failure of aperture mechanism to open or never close aperture after some time when the power supply is not enough to power on the circuit and being dull for a moment . After power "on" there is enough amperage to supply the circuit that is why it worked again. In short you needed to replace the battery that can hold charges for a certain period of time.

" that partially discharged batteries, or alkalines with their lower voltage, worked, and brand-new lithiums didn't, again as I stated"

Low voltage batteries worked in the camera. That's a good indication that you don't have to buy a new one. It sounds not normal circuits as compared to when the camera is new. I believed that the problem is not the battery indicator but the cameras' RLC circuits.

".. *high* battery voltage caused the camera to show "depleted" and refuse to power-up.."

An old rechargeable battery can show more than 1.5 volts and when plug into camera, there is a power loss right away. That is because the battery do not hold charges for a long time.
It is better to buy battery OTC like energizer than any rechargeable used more than five years.

The last photo is hard to determine the plane of focus because the object is not plane. You asked "what do you mean by flat planar subject" . Take a photo in which the object of focus plane( like a wall ) is perpendicular to the axis of lens. By this we can clearly determine the depth of field.

Most likely is that your lens needs a fine adjustment to determine the front focus, plane of focus and back focus.

Another K-S1 Aperture Block Failure

"..it has developed aperture block failure. The symptoms are the usual ones of extremely underexposed shots.."

This is not a totally aperture block but a lens failure to assist the camera to capture a correct exposure. If this happens to all lens then aperture block begins to play.
One reason I could think of is that a widely open interfering rays are admitted ( parallel light rays ). Try a continuous shooting if this occur again.

You can not buy now just the screws only. What you can do is buy a junk camera where in you can get screws of same size. Just leave it unscrewed for one, it will still work.

" I`m unable to take photo`s thru the viewfinder it just refuses to take a photo.."

If the viewfinder shows " red " square frame when you halfway press the shutter- the image is not in focus. Adjust ISO and or zoom in the object and adequate lighting is needed.
