This is tempting. For those that ordered did you also select the free accessories? When I click that at the flash goes away (I did not add it to my cart). I would rather have the flash than the accessories but if I can get both even better

I have the original 18-55 and the more recent dal 18-55wr. The original was not sharp and I ended up using a promaster 28-80(70?) From my zx-10 days with my k100d. I eventually picked up the dal for $35 specifically for a light weight wr lens. The dal meets my expectations.
I think there are 3 or 4 18-55 variations. The first one is the only one that is "bad" the rest are the same optics but variations in wr, quick shift and plastic/metal mount

What don't you like about the 18-55?
What do you like about the 50-200?
What is spending a bunch of money?
You asked for the "best". With most things there are trade offs. Understanding what you value helps with people giving recommendation
A quick answer without really understanding you needs is the 18-135. But it is shorter than the lens you say you like so it might not be long enough

There are setting in the menu. You have to set it to allow aperture ring. I think you also need to setup the green button. Did you watch the videos?

I like the baby picture but I don't know what hobby it represents. Same with the airplane, I assume amateur pilot but that looks like a big plane. Both nice shots so it is probably my lack of knowledge on hobbies

I found 14 really interesting because it made me pause. At first I thought night time tilt shift. Then realized it was model trains with the the long exposure for the lights

Another thing you would see is less dof on the k1 at the same aperture

More guts (or money) than I have. I have shot in downpours and wet snowy condition but even then I use a rain cover. If I think the weather is really bad I have a underwater bag that I will use, although I would not take it underwater

I use the that dal 18-55 with the 100d. I think my filter is a 820. I use auto focus at f/8 and the dof seems to work. Then convert to b&w.
I started in June and posted some photos in the 6mp club(?). I didn't use it a lot but it works, you are framing blind. I am my phone but will post some link tomorrow

100mm is 100mm regardless of the sensor. The field of view and depth of field are impacted by the 1.5 crop

yes my logic, which I questioned, was I was increasing the distances of the lens by the amount of the tube.

I have the original da 18-55 and was never happy with it on my k100d. I ended up using a promaster 28-70 that I had from my zx-10.
I eventually ended up with the dal 18-55 wr after I upgraded to the k3. It is a lot better than the original da. My primary lenses in that range is the sigma 17-50 f2.8 but I will use the dal when weight or weather might be an issue. The dal is also used on the k100d with an IR filter.
So your point about the different versions are true in my experience

Since this has been answered... What about macro extension tubes? I add the physical size of the extension tube to the focal length

The OP mentioned that he has several "package" lenses from a previous camera. I think it would be helpful to disclose what lenses are already owned.
Also how important are each of these desires: shooting birds / small animal at a distance vs wide landscape, not needing to change lenses, WR.

Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6
Logan 450 system
I request the lens. It was purchased from KEH. I think it was labeled EX, it appeared as nos. Original box.The lens hood was still in the original wrapper.
The logan 450 is way more than I need but it will be nice. I have been using an adapt a rule, push cutter and a 18x24 self healing surface. The 450 can handle a full size 32x40 mat board

Keh currently has the 135-600 f 6.7 for $520. It is slow(6.7) and manual focus but it would be a lot of reach if that is the most important consideration

Although I don't own the lens the 55-300 seems to be well liked and a good bang for the buck
Focussing on the OP "zoom lenses that can really zoom in from afar". The differences between 200 and 300 a few degrees 8 vs 5.5 on the diagonal. I would recommend reading some articles that discuss fov vs focal length and determine if the jump from 200-300 is enough. Or if the money would be better saved to afford a 400 or 600 which is going to cost more
