I brought the DFA 150-450 out for Fleet Week festivities last weekend here in SF.
Who says Pentax autofocus cannot hang with the others?? These jets were zipping past in a blur, and even my eyes could not track the flybys, but the camera caught it, and in good focus!

I've handled blackcloudbrew's and Ed Hursts 28-45's and yes, that is a great option!

But for the cheapskate like me, there is much to be said for the A35 and A45 complementing the DFA55. I went that route before the 28-45 was released, and am still happy with it. I also have the DFA25/4 for the wide end and love that.
So many decisions, and the answer to any "should I...?" in Pentax Forums is always YES.

1.4 teleconverter with 645 macro lenses?

I don't want to drift too far from the scope of the original post, "using 1.4 TC with macro lenses", however there are comments here in regarding the 2.0x TC and stacking of multiple teleconverters.

I have great results with the 2.0x TC, and apparently have an excellent copy. I also routinely stack the 1.4X with the 2.0 x on my tele lenses for longer reach when needed, and have gotten excellent results.

I'm not able to embed the picture here, but for now, here's a link to an example.

I found it (67 105, f/2.4) to be capable, but not particularly exciting, on the 645Z. After a few years, I went ahead and sold it. Maybe it has more magic on 67 format.
YMMV.

there is no detectable seam on my copy of the 645Z,, fwiw. it appears to be a continuous single sensor.

I look at it this way. I am still not worthy of my camera's capabilities. It does more than I need it to do. Should that change, I'll start shopping again.

To the OP, I will say hell yes the 645Z is still as superb an option today as it ever was.
If it suits your shooting style, and you can appreciate superior image quality, look no further, the 645Z and available array of lenses are high performers.

If you need rapid burst shooting or moving target focus tracking, this is not your tool, but for scenic, macro, portrait, product work, and high ISO work, it is as good as it gets in this price range.

Good luck shopping.

thanks for the reply.
Alignment of images is not an issue; i'm fine there. it's just that individual craters waver within the perimeter of the moon itself. I think you answered that part by shooting high and in cold air.
thanks again

this is gorgeous - well done!
Question regarding the stack of 18 images. I have tried this and find that the constantly pulsing waves(atmospheric effect) create a moving distortion effect, such that stacking multiple images are just different enough to negate the benefits gained by the stack. How are you getting successive images that match closely? thanks
