You mean that you have a Sigma 24-135mm? "Bigma" is the nickname fr Sigma's 50-500mm lens :)

It's not an original Pentax made adapter it's a third party adapter. This type is known to create problems. What I think must have happened is that the threads on the lens and the adapter was attached a little bit wrong. I did the same thing a few years ago but luckily I could get the adapter of the camera but then I still had big problems removing the adaptor from the lens. I finally had a friend holding the lens tigthly and then with a screwdriver and a hammer  was abel to remove the adaptor. I had to do like that as it really was impossible to remove it any other way.

After that I bought a real Pentax made adaptor, no more third party for me.

Ahaa, that could very well be the case. I thought he used the adaptor as it was ment to be used :) I have about ten m42-takumars and never had any problems when I use them. But I only change lenses like in the old Spotmatic time :p

Anyway, good luck GBNeil. I hope you'll be able to remove the lens and adaptor.

I want to correct this. It's not possible to remove the lens adaptor using the lens release button. One can only remove the lens adaptor after first removing the m42-lens.

I really don't see why trying to find what / if there's something wrong with it. Just use it as usual and you'll see if it's broken or not. Congrat for getting this lens for a low cost because it a very good wideangle zoom :)

You'll get most cash if you sell the K-5 so if you want as much cash as possible then sell the K-5.

DA*16-50 SDM and MF failure???

Update: The SDM and the quick shift is working fine again. I didn't use the lens for a few weeks and was going to send it o be repaired but wanted to test it once before and this time it worked fine :D

By the way, when it stopped working I was laying on my back and taking photos through the tree tops. Maybe to heavy for the SDM motor? :hmm:

Earlier I said that I wouldn't because the K-5 has all I need but there is one thing that would make me consider buying a Pentax FF and that is focus peaking.

Lens dilemma: Give up DA 12-24 for DA* 16-50??

I don't know if I was clear about my feelings for the 16-50mm? But I do love it and I will have it repaired, I love both its optical qualities and its weather sealing :)

And for a polarizer I have a Hoya HD CPL and I haven't noticed any vignetting (but I don't use it that often, mostly shoot without any filters).

Lens dilemma: Give up DA 12-24 for DA* 16-50??

I did just like that. I bought a DA*16-50 and sold my DA 12-24. Now I have a DA*16-50 with non working SDM and also non working MF = a lens that I can't use at all. But did I miss 12 mm? The difference between 12mm and 16mm is huge so I did miss it sometimes but I find that I got more use of the DA*16-50 so i didn't regret that I changed to that lens. The DA*16-50 is a good choice if you can live with the poor quality of the SDM and the risk of a non working MF.

I'd prefer it without AF but still with MF. I'll check how much it would cost to fix the MF since AF isn't important.

DA*16-50 SDM and MF failure???

SDM gave up on this lens a couple of days ago. I knew this would probably happen some day but I thought I'd still be able to focus manually. Is this a typical SDM failure that also MF will not work? I turn the focus ring and nothing happens.

When i use the lens on my old 135-film camera the screw drive AF works without any problem (but not MF).

Are you this annoying all of the time or only when writing in different forums? This thread was about Sigma 35 / Pentax 31 and now you're writing that Pentax shouldn't name their lenses as "limited". What next? Start teaching me how to spell or comment on my bad English?

In that case I'll have to agree with all others that it's worth the money. Choosing the Sigma instead of 31mm ltd just to save USD20 would nearly be criminal. By the way, how much does the 31mm ltd cost in Japan?

Digitalis three great photos but I really love the first, getting some LBA.

FA 31mm or the new Sigma 35mm

Well, I don't think I said that Sigma is a 31 killer  but I claim that it's not worth the price. Where I live the 31 cost USD 2055 and Sigma USD 1265. But it may not be the same in other places? But if I didn't have to care about the cost at all I'd go for the 31. Or why not both:cool:

As I said I don't own any of them and I don't have any plans of bying them. I have my DA*55 which I'll keep as 55mm fits me better than both 31 and 35mm.

I don't own any of these two lenses but I have tried both of them and I'd recommend Sigma 35mm f1.4. The FA 31mm Ltd is a very good lens but it's overpriced and not worth the cost.

If your K10D was using the screwdrive mechanism it ought to be rather loud. The SDM is close to soundless.

Why buy Pentax ltd and not DA*?

Most answers confirms what I wanted and that's to keep the DA*16-50. It's true that it's a big lens but it has some advantages as for example the WR and that it's faster. And now as there's possible to change it to screwdrive if SDM fails I don't even have to worry about the SDM :)

I have tried all the ltd lenses and they are awesome and especially the 15mm ltd. But not possible to buy (if I doesn't win some money) so I'll keep shooting with the DA*. I believe that it's probably not possible to see any bigger difference if one compare the DA* and the ltd:s from aperture f/5.6 and smaller.

Thanx for your answers. The reason I asked is that I have a DA*16-50 and I must sell it if I want to buy one or two ltd. If I sell it I can get a DA21 and if I add some money I could also buy a DA40.
