How do you store your lenses?

My lenses are in bags as kits so I can just grab and go. I do have packs of dessicant in each bag just in case humidity becomes a problem but in reality we don't suffer from prolonged periods of humid weather.

Yep, sounds like standard private equity PR talk. Everything is hunky-dory for the first 12 months or so, then the axe comes out. My advice FWIW is never to invest in an IPO of anything that is put up by a Private Equity firm.

The 85mm isn't on the website any more. I must say that I was tempted to buy it after seeing some of the photo's people have been putting up, even though I don't shoot full frame and I don't have a realistic reason for having an 85mm lens.

K30 gone mad?!

For the most part I agree with you. I have a K30 that developed the aperture problem so I took it to an independent repair person as it was a few years out of warranty. Cost me $220 to get it fixed but the camera had sentimental value so I thought that was OK. The repair lasted long enough to get outside of the repairers warranty period so I was going to just keep it. I also had a couple of K50's with the same problem and I sold them as is. One of the guys I sold a body to was a tech guy and was able to fix it, so I asked if he would have a crack at the K30. For $65 I've got a properly working K30 that's been fine for more than 12 months and still seems to be going strong, but I do make sure to exercise it every week or so. I wouldn't get it repaired again though.

Of course that was before I found out in another thread here yesterday that CRK here in Australia has repaired K30's and K50's with the problem well outside of the warranty period so I guess I should have pestered them first.

FWIW I have small hands so that may well have been a factor in why I didn't really get along with the battery grip. But.......I bought and sold it before I bought the 55-300 and I can definitely see how the battery grip on the bottom would help the balance when using that lens with the KP. I would dearly love to buy something in the sale but I don't actually need anything now (I know I could get chucked off the forum for that last comment!!) and I would have a hell of a job trying to explain to my wife why another grip has just turned up on the doorstep after buying and selling the previous one in less than 6 months.

But I might well definitely be in the market for the new 21mm when that is released.

I bought mine about 9 months ago I think, certainly less than a year ago, so things might have changed.

The battery grip includes the large handgrip, so it might be worth amending your order if it's not too late. I bought the battery grip but ended up selling it as it changed the handling profile of the KP quite significantly and it wasn't as useful for portrait shots as I had thought it might be.

I think this lens is going to become a Pentax classic and I'm sure it will prove the naysayers wrong, even though I have no need for it and am unlikely to be a buyer. I honestly do think that Pentax is in good hands under Ricoh's stewardship.

I casually mentioned the sale to my wife last night and her reply was "15% isn't enough, it's got to be at least 20%". So she's not disallowing a purchase outright then................at least that was my interpretation.

What kits would you make up from these lenses?

Thanks for your detailed and helpful response. I do have several zooms, including the 55-300 but I tend to use them for travelling. But taking it out more often to give me something extra at the long end isn't a bad idea.

I have the following lenses which all fit nicely into a bag with a KP body. It's not too heavy to carry around but I find having seven lenses to choose from at the same time becomes a bit of a case of too much choice all at once.

DA Limiteds
15mm
21mm
35mm Macro
40mm
70mm

DA 50/1.8 and a DFA 100mm Macro

So, how would you group these lenses into a couple of separate kits for general photo excursions? My thoughts were along the lines of something like a "short" kit with the 15, 21, 35 & 40 and a "long" kit with the 50, the 70 and the 100. I know someone will say it all depends what I want to shoot and "why not just take whatever lens you feel like" but I'm just interested in other ideas that people might have.

DFA 85mm f/1.4 Now on Ricoh's Website

That's astonishing. A consumer's rights here are not widely known by the public and, unsurprisingly, most retailers won't tell you (although I'm sure some of them wouldn't actually know the rules). The other thing that retailers will often try and brush a customer off with is that they have to go back to the manufacturer for a warranty claim. That's an outright lie - the claim is with the retailer and it's up to the retailer to sort it out with the manufacturer afterwards.

Under consumer law you're entitled to warranty cover for as long a reasonable person would expect the item to work properly, which for a lens is certainly longer than 12 months, despite what ANY retailer tells you.

Extended warranties usually mean you pay extra for something you're already entitled to.

You know.........as hard as I've tried, I just can't imagine that as Robert Capa lined up to take a shot of an infantryman on a Normandy beach, he was thinking "well I hope that his eyes are in perfect focus and that there's nice bokeh".

I think Pentax will be fine. Ricoh seem to have a pretty good idea of the niche they want Pentax to occupy.
