Join a local Astronomy Club with an Observatory for out of this world photos!
For just $35/year, a little training, and a willingness to volunteer 4 times a year to host the public, I joined the New Jersey Astronomical Association where I now have access to WAY more capable equipment than I could ever afford. My favorite is this Celestron EdgeHD 14" Telescope that is sitting on a tracking mount, aligned, and ready to go anytime the sky and my calendar are both clear at the same time.
$35 for a 3910mm F11 lens: throw in the crop factor and I can literally pull down some galaxies even with NJ light pollution (that's a bigger aperture than the focal length of the lens I hope to win with this submission!) But, I must confess this photo was taken with my phone as my K50 was... preoccupied.

Do not get me wrong, this technique will work, but but this is a very bad advice from an ethical point of view.
During the breeding season, birds have other stuff to do than to search for an imaginary opponent, feed their young for example. Many species will revisit the place several times even after you've gone. Even before breeding, the presence of competition can actually affect the territory and nest site selection. Additionally, this practice is illegal for protected species in majority of countries.
That being said, in scientific studies, call replay until the first response is widely used as a technique when searching for breeding territories, but this usually does not get the birds agitated enough for them to stay for a photo shoot.
If you like taking pictures of birds, do it in a responsible way. Please get to know them better and learn to hide well, do not abuse their territoriality, they are only defending the future of their offspring.
Best regards,
Marko

The comments on this picture remind me of the cartoon where two very overweight guys, in speedos, are standing at the beach. A beautiful girl walks by in a bikini. One of the guys looks at the other and says, "you know, she could stand to loose a pound or two." Just saying, you know.

Your comment reminded me of an instance in which that (mutual shots) happened to me.
I was vacationing some years ago (more years than what I want to disclose) visiting downtown Vienna. I was sporting my Pentax ME. The weather was dreadful, raining all day long, and almost nobody in sight. That was a very wet year BTW.
Then I saw a young guy (as myself at the time) taking pictures. I crossed a street and approached him, offered with signs to take him a photo with his camera (I do not really remember the brand but it was a nice reflex). My offer was to take a shot from across the street with his camera. He hesitated and had this doubtful face for a few seconds and it dawned on me that he was thinking that I was going to run with his precious reflex. I jumped toward him and offered mine in exchange. That closed the deal.
I took his shot with his camera and he took the shot with mine. We walked together sporting the other's camera for something like half an hour or a little more, to take mutual shots of the interesting spots in Vienna. It was one of those times in which notwithstanding the language barrier and personal backgrounds, we were able to find common ground in photography and being able to help each other.
I fondly keep this memory in my mind. Don't ask me his name or the brand of the camera. It was only the fact that we spent some time together based on our love for fine cameras and being both tourists by ourselves in Vienna.
Have a great day, you all.
Norberto ---------- Post added 11-05-15 at 02:30 PM ---------- BTW, Pentax gear has started to appear slowly but surely in Mexican department stores. Spotted a red K-50 at a Sanborns store, and my brother said that he tested a K-3 at the local Best Buy store. Only problem, with the last slide of the exchange rate against the US dollar, anything imported has hiked a lot the selling prices in Mexico.
Still, I am hoping that Best Buy might give a good discount this upcoming Black Friday, sufficiently enough to buy a K-3 with the 18-135 WR lens. Let's see what happens.

Also include fast moving wildlife such as children, grandchildren with a dash of "moving into picture relatives" just as you have pressed the shutter. Ahaaaaarg!

I really liked the leading line produced by the boats and the dock. So I did a little cropping.

K-50
Discounted prices, great features, scene mode to help you learn more about photographic choices (if you review the detailed exifs afterwords) with fully manual modes available. KS1/kS2 will also work great, they offer additional resolution (20MP vs. 16) and cost more due to relative newness. There are some features where the k50 still exceeds the ks1/2 frames per second and buffer size I think are an example for both, weather sealing is missing on the kS1 but present on the ks2.
