C'mon. We all know it was Ricoh's plan from the beginning, to make you convince Tamron to release their lenses in K mount!

Isn't it? :)

Jokes apart, you'll be missed!

... and they loved it!

1/800s f/8.0 ISO800 24mm

1/800s f/9.0 ISO800 24mm

1/500s f/8.0 ISO800 24mm

For those interested, I used this cheap waterproof case. I wasn't confident at the beginning, but it's a good product, especially for the price. The plastic glass removes a lot of contrast & colors though, and you need to close it very carefully. I did each time but got several small leaks (I never swam that fast :D ). Nothing bad, but you need to check carefully at the start of each dive. I didn't dare to put my K1 inside :D

I already asked Adam. You can change this in your settings, but Adam didn't want to change it by default. Also, I'm seeing the problem with Safari and not with Chrome.

Thanks guys!

Ah ah no I don't work work Ricoh, even though I'd love to! Sorry for your wallet, but I'm sure you won't regret it :) .
The only cons when compared to the 300 is the light transmission which is a little bit less good, making you loose something like a half stop. That's the price to pay for aberrations free photos with a zoom, I guess. But you have much more reach, you can zoom, AF is great (even though I find the DA*300 AF perfectly fine), and you have a focus limiter.
IQ-wise, I did several tests comparing the D-FA at 270mm (max focal length for the f/4.5 aperture) vs the DA* and even when looking 100% I'm not able to say which lens took which shot. At 310 I found the DA* a little bit better, but the D-FA is still perfectly fine. In real world use, I don't pay attention to the focal length, and I'm always satisfied.
I keep the DA* for its low weight and size, but for now I always took the D-FA no matter the conditions ^^.

Again if you want to play with a few RAWs just tell me, I can upload some.

On the K3, heavy crop (60%):

1/1000sec - f/8 - ISO800 - 450mm

I have both. I used the 300 for several year before buying the 150-450, I now it well and I love it.
Yet it stayed in the bag since I bought the 150-450 :)

A few low light samples:

1/60sec - f/6.3 - ISO6400 - 450mm

1/30sec - f/4.5 - ISO3200 - 220mm

1/13sec - f/6.3 - ISO1600 - 360mm

Then, when you do have the light...

1/250sec - f/7.1 - ISO1600 - 450mm

1/80sec - f/7.1 - ISO800 - 360mm

1/250sec - f/7.1 - ISO1600 - 450mm

1/1000sec - f/7.1 - ISO800 - 450mm

If you want to play with some RAWs, I can upload a few. The rainbow lorikeet shot was extremely underexposed, it's a nice shadow recovery example.
You can see a lot more birds pictures with the K1 & 150-450 in this gallery .

Sorry for your wallet, but that lens deserves it :) .

What are you doing taking photos with that old 2016-era lens?? Don't you have a brand new D-FA* 50 f/1.4 to play with?

:D

Please don't. Most of your pictures are stunning, none made me wince, nor did I find any of them to be sleazy!

I'm totally jealous!! But on the other end I would have been so upset not to have my best lens for the occasion
Best I can find in my backyard is my neighbours' cats. Maybe a fox, in the middle of the night...

You might want to read one of these:
RAW to TIFF or PSD 16bit loses color depth - Photography Stack Exchange
Are You Wasting Dynamic Range? | Blogarithms

Or just do your own tests (open a dng in ACR, export it as a tif, then apply same settings to the dng & the tif, and finally export both in jpeg). Difference is subtle but there's a loss.

I'd like to do that to use that extracted DNG to use it only on parts with movements in a PS image.

Maybe I'm not using RT correctly. Still, playing with the settings you talk about lead to terrible results for me.

See the following test:

Picture #1:
- opened the PS DNG in ACR
- fixed white balance
- fixed chromatic aberrations
- bumped shadows and highlights to their maximum (goal is not to get a nice picture but to illustrate the discussion)

Picture #2:
- opened the PS DNG in ACR
- exported to TIFF (with no processing)
- open the TIFF in ACR
- do the exact same processing as for picture #1

Picture #3:
- opened the PS DNG in RT
- ensured that "Highlights reconstruction" is checked (was the case)
- selected "Color propagation" as the blend method (saw no change)
- played with "Highlight compression" until the result of the image

You can download the DNG from here (170MB) if you want to play with it.

Just a note on workflows involving a TIFF export: you'll loose all the dynamic range of your camera doing so.
You can avoid that using RAW Therapee to do all your processing before the TIFF export, but I find that RT isn't great at all at recuperating shadows / highlights compared to Camera RAW so in the end, it's not really better.

I'd love to find a way to extract one of the four pictures as a DNG (not as a TIFF) from a PS file. That would allow to process the PS DNG and that extracted non-PS DNG in ACR with the same settings, and then manually replace the areas with artefacts from the PS DNG with data from the non-PS DNG. Didn't find a way to do the extraction for now, so I'm using PS only in situation with low contrast (no shadows / highlights recuperation needed, or not much), or no movement at all. That means very few situations.

Nature Autumn approaching - imaging the Andromeda Galaxy with the K3 II

I did last night with the 150-450 and "normal" K1. At 450mm with astrotracer I managed to have no star trails up to 5 seconds. 10 seconds is still on a single shot but I guess not usable for stacking.
So astrotracer helps, but with no equatorial mount we'll still need to stack a lot of pictures. My first stacking tentatives with Lynkeos are a complete fail, not sure why (I'm a complete beginner).

After a look at your Flickr page, I have my answer: nice mount!
I still wonder if I we can get some decent shots of adromeda with a normal tripod and astrotracer :) .

Sorry to answer an outdated post, but I'd like to know if you used an equatorial mount or just the astrotracer?
