Nice to see you rounded up some new talent. Nice effort. Watch the hair light, its a bit hot in some of your shots creating high lights on her face.

Hmmm...you shouldn't be getting any camera shake if your using strobe. If your using tungsten light bump up the shutter to at 1/120.

Yes, Rupert I know the girls like to be retouched and look flawless, I faced with this weekend and week out.

But, flawless skin can be done while maintaining good skin texture, highlights, and shadowing.

Rupert there are many ways to B&W conversion

1. Channel mixer - run through the B/w presets
2. Black and white - again, check out the presets
3. Gradient map - I personnaly find the first two to give me more options and better results
4. Hue saturation
5. Almost every image also requires some change in the contrast using levels or curves..

However, my favorite is the Nik Silver Efx plugin; this is hands down the best B&W plugin out there.

Send me a few hi-res images to play with and can post some examples...:)

Rubert, I know your getting an overwhelming amount of advice. I think you should focus on the technical aspects of lighting (it needs to be cleaner) & PP (less & more natural)

Leave the styling & posing too your models...for now.

I noticed you used 1/60 shutter speed. Doing so, shooting a model moving down the catwalk you'll be lucky if you get any sharp images.

As far as styling...looks no better or worse than a local small fashion show

Rupert one of the issues you are dealing with in "skin retouch" is your model has freckles. Retouching faces with freckles can be very tedious. If you use PP for removing freckles instead of pre-shoot (makeup) you will always end up with fake looking retouched skin.

When we shoot girls with freckles, it is decided before shooting if freckles will show or not.

Oh...for some reason, most girls hate their freckles showing in these type of pics...which also leads to too much PP to keep them happy.

Nice effort Rupert. You might watch those "angles" when doing those tighter headshots. Also, I think you should ditch the "classic portraiture" multi-lighting scemes and use one light/reflector with a light colored background.

Yes, and this is typical for an inexperienced "newbie" model. She hasn't learned how to "engage" the camera yet.

I usually tell the model - the camera is a really hot guy that you just meet" - usually that will get that "sparkle" that is missing.

Well, this really isn't fashion, its glamour. That being said, these shots have some "styling issues" (hair & MU).

For my taste, the PP is a little heavy handed, especially on the skin.

I use a 50mm & 55mm all the time for "beauty" work. The more you use it, the better you'll get an using the perspective to your advantage. Slight changes is angle can create slight changes in facial features.

Rupert your main light would be directed towards the model, the foamcore will bounce(fill) in the shadow on the opposite side.

good luck!!

Actually, most all "beauty work" is done with one light & fill cards, on the model. The addition of a hair light is usually only used for "hairstyle beauty" shots.

Now classic portraiture lighting is a different animal, but since your subjects are young girls, I think the "beauty" approach is more appropriate.
