Savoche,
Thanks for the response and especially your comment about Jonas' video which is all you need to use the action.
We think that the tool is very useful and are disappointed at the opportunity to place notice of its availability. Two other forums made me take my comments down. PF doesn't attract many who use these kinds of tools. Pass it along to others who have use.
Cheers,

He's the man, the man with the Minus touch
A spider's touch
Such a Cold finger
Beckons you to enter his web of sin
But don't go in ....."

He stores his gloves in a freezer while his "MedTec" Elvira draws a pint of my blood.

How do you know that it is not available in the API? I'll bet that the backend(camera) is the same for all and so is the communication from camera to device (phone etc.) but the documentation is usual Pentax. Each one was probably written by a different person with things missing in each. Have an honest try and don't trust the docs.

Guys,
I've played with something for a while. It is a Spatial Frequency by octave Photoshop script. You input you file and it outputs a file with the input, DC, and eight octaves as layers. You can then review to identify within each octave your weak or strong portions you wish to fix. I'm hoping that this extra separation makes the anomalies apparent for you.

Because these are normal looking layers, you can burn, dodge, whatever you wish to make stronger or weaker. Once you have id'd the areas and applied the cure, you can then run a companion script to put is all back together into a single layer. This Photoshop script is located at: __SST-Save.zip. Unzip it, and copy to the script folder in Photoshop. This should run on Win or Mac Photoshop CC. The file used as input should not be your original but a copy and probably should be flattened before calling this routine.

The companion script is broken right now but try to see if Spatial Frequency separation allows you to identify the anomalous areas.

Have a try please and I'll fix what I screwed up in the companion.

Cheers,

Andrea,

Have a look at this from the USB C++ SDK Capture Settings:

Code:

std::unique_ptr fNumber(new FNumber());

cameraDevice->getCaptureSettings(std::vector{fNumber.get()});

const std::vector& availableFNumberSettings = fNumber->getAvailableSettings();

// The list above might contain the following values.

// F4.0 (F4_0), F4.5 (F4_5), F5.0 (F5_0)

I think all of the parameters are in the WiFi SDK but it is not explained.

This gives the available aperture setting for the attached lens. Just what is needed for Focus Stacking.

I decided to show what happens with a larger gap as well as a black gap. Also I retained the full width when inserting the gap and worked the gaps from the center to the edges.

WHITE GAP
Top: Starting file
Mid: Overlay gaps on Top
Low: Insert gaps between trisected Top

Attachment 438076

BLACK GAP
Top: Starting file
Mid: Overlay gaps on Top
Low: Insert gaps between trisected Top

Attachment 438075

I prefer the gaps overlain on both but the dark background is better in my view. You could paint a dark rectangle on the wall around the images.

Interesting simulations.

Jeff,

Glad you found a solution. Is it possible that you could put a screen dump here so others can see what you did in the Photoshop comparison? I'm fascinated by the geology depicted in the image. Where was the image acquired? Near you hobbit hole?

How large is the gap going to be? If small like an 1" or 2", I'd try to preserve the continuity. If large like 5" or more, doesn't matter. My son-in-law did one with frames and the gap is too large with frame and trisecting the wide photo. Why not try doing it in Photoshop and stand different distances from the various gaps. Make the background same as wall where images will hang.

Have a look at an automated Focus Stack Automated focus stacking - PentaxForums.com This has way more than five focus frames in the stack.

As far a as import/export of the parameters, you are importing/exporting them now to the WCPD files which we don't have a format definition available for.

I'm requesting that you let the users to choose what to do.

This app is very versatile in defining what parameters to use for sampling the various settings. Focus is only one of the parameters available. If is free and is much faster (2x or more) in downloading than Image Sync over WiFi. Works on Win 7-10 with Pentax cameras with native WiFi (K-1 back to K-70). Mac version promised.

So WCP shows being faster compared to Image Sync. Is this due to compiled app and system vs Javascript and its system?

Straight out of the box, Image Sync as released by Pentax is 46s / JPEG K-1 file whereas WCP with speedups is 20s for the same file. This is an improvement of over 2 to 1. Is this what one can expect for a larger number of JPEGs?

The magnitude of change is much less using WCP. What might cause that? Every bit or byte helps.

Andrea,

I'd like to see an option to save and retrieve the table in CSV format so we can build the table in Excel. It would be a waste of your time to duplicate so much of what Excel or other spreadsheets offer if you can move on to getting the Mac version up and running. Sharing of setups would be easier too.

Sampling of the frames for stacking or selecting should be a concern and hasn't be mentioned before. To make good stacks, sampling at just peak focus points is probably not sufficient. This means artifacts will be seen in the stacks. Likewise beginning and ending edges of the of the ensemble being stacked.

Heavy users of various versions of stacking please comment on sampling.

Thanks Clackers.

Problem is Letterman didn't like it fifteen years ago or was it longer than that and I keep holding out for a miracle. Hoping one of those retired profs who hang around here might have some helpful-leftover verbiage?

Another problem not solved!!

Some while back after a session with lawyers, I decided to write a joke related to them. I have either writer's block or an injunction to stop me from finishing it and would like your help. I know there is humor in it.

This should be said aloud.

"One half of the lawyers are suers and the other half are suees. The two groups constantly become flushed in their suage during their repartee."

GROAN!!

Only coined word is suage.

Have a go after it.

I'd like to suggest that you guys write the document that explains what you want. We all know that Pentax will probably not put this is the firmware so it would only get produced by the user community. To me we should bug Pentax to add options that we can't implement in a cross-platform set of tools. With the SDKs, we should be able to a great many things. This one seems pretty easy. Taking the load off of Pentax might make them free up more ways to work with the firmware across wifi, USB, ...

If you can get a agreement among you (ROFLOL) on what parameters are needed and how they are used but do not recommend how to code it. A coder should be able to fit it into their app in a much faster time without your help. You should document by using real data which can be processed in PhotoShop, etc. With this group's experience, don't oversimplify as you know what is needed. Think of the future needs also and document but mark as in the future.

Reason I ask is that color balancing has to be impossible by combining two distinct spectra from completely different light sources. I was wondering if balancing processing twice with sky as major area once and earth as the major area second might show very different balancing. It is like HDR with a significant boundary of just a few light years or so.

The red hue just seemed out of place to me
