What's the draw for other cameras?

I have my Pentax, *ist D and KP.
But I also have my m4/3. I ended up there while looking for a replacement for an Optio A40. Wanted something a bit more than the P&S. It kinda grew from there.
I'm also using a Sigma SD Quattro. Got it cause I always wanted to try Foveon. Limited to operate, a bit uglier than my KP, but with Images that Blow You Away.
Haven't found a need for FF, so I'm gonna pass on those.

I've got Paint Shop Pro 2019 on my Win 10 64bit box, runs good. RAW processor is Ehhhh but if you get the PSP and After Shot bundle it's pretty good.

Ehhhh, close to true statements. Especially the last sentence. Probably why my M4/3 is growing and Pentax is dwindling. They should probably shut down USA all together and let us ship cameras back to Japan for service. What they have now isn't a smart business model.

Your Ricoh / Pentax product developed a fault, and you've lost faith in the brand...

Interesting to know that. It's all over for me, sold my failed K50 and after getting the KP, I sold my KS2 also. I use my *ist D as a backup to the KP. 14 Y.O. and still clicking. And because of the SDM failures my KP is sporting a current Sigma 17-50 f2.8 .

Probably nothing, but Pentax could have stood Tall and offered a solution that didn't put the complete burden of repair on the consumer. This goes for both types of failures. Free parts and a negotiated Flat Rate Labor price from the repair center would have worked. Standing there and hiding behind 'OOOOPs it out of warranty' isn't the answer.

I don't agree with the Bye-Bye threads, especially the low number of posts one. I consider them Trolls and the poster should be banded.
That being said, I've used Pentax along time (1966). They have always been a reliable camera and lens. Pentax's handling of aperture block failures and SDM failures is dismal. After the K30 the same part was installed in the K50, stupid. Pentax has no excuse for this kind of quality problem.
My grandson is now looking at cameras and when he asked me I steered him toward Nikon or Olympus. It's the loss of reliability in Pentax that made me steer him away.

Since the Adobe products are the most popular you'll find More forums and videos dedicated to Adobe. Lot's of info to get you started. I've never used Adobe so this is an unbiased opinion.
I never did get along with sharpening but found a few Plugins that gave me the control I wanted over who got sharpened and who didn't.
It will take awhile, I was fortunate to have a Graphic Artist as a Mentor. Start with Basics and go from there.
Good Luck.

Haven't gotten the nag screen yet. My Box is Windows 7 Pro stays off the internet. This surfer box runs 7 and will be replaced when it smokes. The TV box is 10 and places DVD's, Netflix, and Hulu nicely. LOL

Have to disagree. From observation , with the every day shooters Phones rule. You go a step up and low end canikons fill in. For us Gals that take Photography serious, size doesn't enter in. Quality of output does. A FB group I'm in for Pentax Woman is filled with K-1 users. I'm one of the few still shooting APS-C :)

My ist D is still working without any issues.
I am in the habit of 'Exercising' my gear when not used. Probably twice a year. All film and Digi get fired several times.
Appears to work for me.

Question about colour management

The unending discussion of Color Management.......:)
I have a little knowledge on Windows.
When you load your icc profile in windows it tells your graphics card how to interpret colors for your monitor. A canned profile from the manufacturer.
If you use a Spyder, you make a custom profile by setting which color Temp you'll use and then adjusting the monitor's white point, black point, and RGB. Once set the spyder will create an icc profile, which you load into the system.
In THEORY you can then take your image and put it on another 'Profiled' system and the colors will match.

Myself, I just go for the Print matching the Monitor, mostly with success. I've done it with a Spyder and using the monitor with the manufacturers profile. I get my color targets off the internet so that all things are equal. I have sent images to online printers with mixed results. IIRC the yellows and oranges were more vivid. This is what works for me.

Good Luck.

Converting DNG from K70

If the DCU doesn't read the .dng from your camera, first thing I'd do is uninstall it, restart, and install again. Current DCU is 5.

Just guessing on this but if you moved the .dng to your Ipad and then to Windows something might have been dropped from the .dng

No that's just light bouncing around. It's actually difficult to find or photograph. Took me several attempts to find it and I own the lens :)
Probably should rig it up and do a macro of the area.
