Panasonic G9 a Pentaxsonic?

I recently purchased the Panasonic G9 after much soul searching so to speak. I looked very closely at the Pentax KP with the 300/4 lens for birding. I looked at Nikon and finally settled on the Panasonic G9 for various reasons. First, like the Pentax, it is completely weather/dust resistant. While larger than most m4/3rd cameras it is not that large. Large enough to handle bigger birding/nature lens. Plus, it is just big enough for using with gloves. The G9 reminds me of my old Pentax PZ1P but with a fully articulating screen. The 2x crop factor is very good for shooting nature and wildlife subjects. It is not as good as Pentax for low light photography but works ok as long as you keep the ISO under 1600. Comparing prints made with the G9 to the Pentax I have a hard time telling which image came from which camera. The option of having more longer lens choices than Pentax was a deciding factor for my decision. I never warmed up to the KP and I did not trust the K70 since aperture block failure has been reported in them. I lost my K50 due to that problem so I am gun shy when it comes to that issue.
Anyway, for anyone considering the Panasonic G9 I have to say I am very pleased.

Thank you!

Thank you for responding to my 300/4 & KP question. I was hoping to find out how people where using this combo, whether or not they used a tripod, or, this was adequate for carrying and shooting handheld. It sounds like this combo works for hand holding. This is one of my major concerns that it could be too heavy for taking on hikes, etc. I am not a big tripod shooter. So, thanks much for your inputs.

Sounds like you love it! Good to know the 1.4TC works fine with it too. Thank you very much for your input.

If anyone is using the 300/4 lens with the KP I would be interested in hearing your experiences with that combo.
I am considering purchasing that combo for birding and nature images. Since there is no camera store near me to actually hold and compare them I have to go by what I see online.
So, would love to hear your feedback on using this combo.
Thanks.

For those shooting with the K70, how does the color compare to those images taken with a K50?
I liked the results I got with my now defunct K50 and am considering the K70 after the first of the year?

I miss the AA battery option also, especially when hiking and shooting in more remote areas where it is not possible to recharge the others.

VW what do you think

Yes, I see that happening right now. VW dealerships cannot sell VW diesel cars to the public and this is hurting local dealerships. Sales people are losing out on sales and this trickles down to other areas where people are employed. If dealerships cannot make money, then employees get laid off because of no fault of their own.

K50 sensor problem

My K50 did the same thing too. It only happened once and it started working fine again. It did however shake my faith in the camera not knowing whether or not this problem will return. In another, thread I was speculating that the inside mechanisms are most likely the same in both the K30 and K50? Don't know this for sure though.

Leo, I had my K50 do the same thing as your K30. I don't know if this is a widespread problem with the K50 but I bet the K30 and K50 are basically the same inside. My K50 only did it once and went away. It did make me nervous of taking only this camera out into the field though not knowing if and when it would rear its ugly head again. Anyone else who shoots with the k50 had this problem? Curious minds would like to know! :)

K-50 Vs K-S2

Hey Des,
I agree you can purchase the extra battery packs for the K5 and K3 bodies but that adds much more bulk and weight to the camera too. Plus, I have had those batteries without warning go dead on me while on a trip. I like the security knowing I can get AA batteries just about anywhere.
AA batteries for me are a must as I shoot away from places where plug-ins are available and extra proprietary batters are more expensive. I know many people do not need the option of picking up AA batteries in a pinch but when you need them you need them! :)
Cheers!

K-50 Vs K-S2

For me the option of being able to use AA batteries would make the choice easy for me. Unfortunately, the K-S2 can only use its proprietary battery.
My vote is for the K50...

It seems to me that the Pentax K-S2 is not selling very well. Why?

The main reason is that the K-S2 did not have the choice of using AA batteries such as the K50.
The tilting screen is very nice, and, a feature I wanted to see Pentax implement, but the fact they left out the AA battery option killed the deal for me.

Mirror stuck problem in new Pentax K-50

This is very interesting as this problem just happened to me this weekend while out shooting with my K50 and the 18-55WR Kit lens.
If I removed the lens and put it back on, the camera would work for a shot or two, then I would have to do that again. When I got home, I replaced this lens with another and the camera worked fine. Now, today, I put the 18-55WR back on it and have been shooting with it with no problems? I am holding my breath. Now, I have lost some confidence taking this K50 out into the field without a back-up. Cost to send it to Pentax for repair is around $170 dollars, while local places want $250. For that much money, I almost could buy a brand new K50 with warranty. Anyway, I am waiting to see how the camera continues to shoot. I have shot many images with it and never had a problem until this weekend. Anyone else see a connection between using the 18-55WR and the K50 for this problem?

For the price they are asking for it now, the Pentax K50 is a steal compared to other cameras. Plus, it works with AA batteries in a pinch!

Pentax K50 SD Card Question

Yes, I did that and on the file they do arrange themselves the way I want them to.
Then, when I open that file using my post processing software (ASP2) they open up all disarranged again. Strange. So, maybe ASP2 is doing something to the files? This is strange as I don't have this problem with any of my other cameras or cards.

Thanks!

K50 cleaning issue

I have had more dust issues with my K50 than any other Pentax body. My older K10 hardly ever gets dust, but the K50 seems to have problems and I am extremely careful about how I remove and add lens on the body too.
Other than that, I love my K50. Dust be gone! :)

Pentax K50 SD Card Question

When shooting with my Pentax K50, the images when uploaded from my SD card to my Mac are all out of sequence. This does not happen with any of my other Pentax bodies, only on the K50.
Is there a setting somewhere to change the sequence order of images shot with the K50? Does anyone else have this problem? It is frustrating as I like to work on my images in sequence when PP.
Thanks!

Don't know much about the Sigma 28 lens but I recently sold my FA 28/2.8 lens as I just was not using it enough to justify keeping.
Personally, I enjoy the Pentax DA lens so I would take a look at their wide angles in this category. As for Sigma, I have had a 50/2.8 macro that I have used it extensively over the years. It has and is performing extremely well.
Let us know what you decide upon! BTW, I enjoyed seeing your astro pics!

My camera came yesterday and today I am checking it out. First thing I did was to update the firmware. The camera fits my hands well and I love the color of mine...green and black.
John, I have the DA40 lens and love it. I use it along with my DA35/2.8 Macro which I love even more! Both are small, compact and sharp.
