These shots are just amazing. I love the colors you captured in the night sky. While I haven't done any of this type of shooting, I have a trip planned to visit national parks out west and think that I need to learn how before we go!

This is interesting. The choice to change the tint from edge to center makes it look almost foggy. I remember hand tinting black and white 35mm photos that I had developed myself in high school photography class. How things have changed (and I'm not that old!). Thanks for sharing.

I like this composition better than your other for some reason. Probably the absence of the white fence looking structure and a less busy background. I'm sure the tulip festival was just lovely!

I'm a sucker for shallow depth of field and natural light. Lovely photo. Did you do any post processing to enhance the colors?

These are super cool. I'm in Vermont, the home of the famous Snowflake Bentley. We love ice crystal images around here :) I have also recently taught a unit on snowflakes to some elementary school kids. For the first time ever while skiing I witnessed column crystals falling from the sky. This is very interesting subject matter. Please continue to share your results!

Pretty subject. Did you use flash in this photo or was it a really bright day?

I can see why you are retiring from moon shots. This one is absolutely fantastic. I know nothing about astrophotography but am motivated to learn more because of your amazing image! Did you take it recently? I know we had a supermoon last week. Congrats on this.
P.S.- My 3rd grader is studying the solar system in school this year and will be very excited when I share this with her.

I like the B&W choice in the first photo. In the second, the green hue in the water catches my eye. You've inspired me to get out and find some moving water to shoot today.
Thanks!

Lovely morning light! Isn't it wonderful to be motivated by new gear? I'm in the same boat. I like the proportions. Did you choose to crop it this way or was that the original image?

The light you've captured on the young lady's face is lovely. It looks like your focus was a little beyond her. Was that intentional? We've had crazy weather here in Vermont too. I always struggle to get the colors right with a snowy backdrop. It looks like it was a beautiful day to get out with your camera!
Best,

That is a tasty looking spread :)
Did you use the flash straight on? You might consider trying to bounce it off of a wall or surface to the left or right to give you some more interest. There are some great books out there that share ideas for how to "see" a picture, rather than the technical how to "take" the picture. Check out The Unforgettable Photograph by George Lange! It's a cool "idea per page" rather than a novel or manual to read. Just looking at other people's images will help you get more creative. Nice work and keep shooting.

Thanks Adam. It is more like $120 savings but I think you're right. It is still worth it. I didn't know about the credit card coverage, so thanks for that too!

Which k-70 package?

I'm shopping for the same camera. I started out with a K-x (which I loved) and converted to Nikon (which I didn't love). I've sold off my gear and think the K-70 is my best bet. Because of the versatility and the higher quality that so many have reference in this thread I've settled on the 18-135. I had an 18-140mm on my D5300 and found that I rarely took it off unless it was to use a prime in a low light situation. I'd love to hear what you think of the K-70 if you end up with one in your hands before I do!

This is interesting, I'm about to order a K-70 from B&H. They have a "condition 10" used one in stock at a 15% discount. The only hesitation that I have is the warranty. It is covered by a 90 day B&H rather than 1 yr manufacturer. Maybe it is worth the extra to have one year of coverage in the event of something like this! Anyone know if B&H will middleman the warranty issues with Ricoh if there is a problem? I hope you're able to get it sorted out. How are you liking the K-70?

Hello!
I found the forum when searching for advice on Pentax cameras since the Ricoh transition. I shot 35mm with a K1000 as a kid. I made the transition to DSLR with a K-x in 2010. When my K-x failed in 2014 I was hesitant to stick with Pentax because of the lack of support (just after the acquisition) so I sold my whole collection of gear in favor of Nikon. Sadly, my love of photography seemed to die when I changed brands. I've finally decided to switch back to Pentax. My D5300 and all Nikon lenses are gone and I'm likely going to buy a K-70 + 18-135mm. It seems to hit the sweet spot with features and budget for me. I'm a bit concerned because none of my local shops carry Pentax and I can't lay my hands on one before buying. I loved the small body of my K-x and understand that the K-70 is much bigger and heavier. That being said, I have a Sony a6000 mirrorless for when I need small and light.
I look forward to participating in the forum as someone with a love for the Pentax brand and the images that Pentax cameras produce. Somehow, they are distinctly different.
Best,
JLC
