Exactly... there's no clear cut technique but ND Grads are a safe bet.

Just took my 16-50 for a quick spin... iso 1600 all the way as it's an indoor event... f2.8 is a bit soft as expected. But just stop down to f3.5 or higher and you'll be blown away.
Debunks a LOT of online reviews stating that it's only marginally better than the 16-45. I've used a that lens for a few years (even tweaked it's focusing to be a perfect match to the K10D)... it's quite a good lens for it's price but it won't match the 16-50.
Can't wait to try this one out at lower ISO speeds or on the K20D (which produces better detail retention at iso1600).
One comment though... low-light focusing didn't really improve that much compared to the 16-45... but at least it's silent.

16mm.... huge different from 18mm (every mm counts towards the wide end).

I'd go Route 1... then get the 40mm or 35mm (or 31mm if budget permits) as a light prime. Why? 16mm is a huge step from 18mm...

We share the same sentiment... SDM issues posted online kept me from buying the 50-135mm before and opted for a Sigma 70-200mm instead (don't regret about this since I prefer the 200mm reach).
There are also so good (old) online reviews about the 16-50mm as well.... but after reading and checking out real world pictures of actual users, I decided to pull the trigger.

That's why I got a K20D...
I contemplated on buying a K-x to compliment my K10D BUT the lack of a select AF point option is just a major turn off for me.
From my initial testing, the K20D focuses much faster than the K10D in low light (not assisted by the 540FGZ's IR AF assist). Both for my Pentax and Sigma glass.

Buying it from the manufacturing country wouldn't necessarily translate to a cheap price. That's because of how the free trade / export zone system is being implemented in many South East Asian countries.
The same goes here in the Philippines... you would expect that we have rock bottom prices for Pentax bodies but nope, the price in online US stores are even cheaper by a bit. In my experience, the cheapest place to buy would be Hong Kong or Singapore.

I usually just sling the camera over my right shoulder when resting or walking. It's quite rare for me to use the strap around the neck.

Why would you buy a small DSLR like the K-x and then attach a battery grip to it? Kinda defeats the purpose of having a small compact DSLR.

My K10d is in perpetual debug mode (it activated all by itself after I upgraded my firmware to 1.3)... doesn't seem to affect it's battery life.

Have you updated your K10D's firrmware to v1.3 to enable the use of SDM (or Sigma's HSM) equipped lens?
If you're still using v1.1, your SDM / HSM equipped lens will not AF (as what you've mentioned).

Wow are they that strict over there? Here in South East Asia, the airlines (even the budget ones) aren't that strict with regards to weight and size for as long as it'll fit in the overhead compartment.

I've noticed with my K10D is that if I use the extreme left or right focus point, some shots made indoors are a bit soft (even when using the 540FGZ's IR assist) as compared to pictures where am just using the center AF point.

I like the 2nd one the best... though I wish that his leash could have been removed or wasn't part of the shot.
