I have a ks2 and iso 800 is fine. 3200 is rough but black and white helps a lot. here are 2 at iso 3200 but I think iso1600 is good to push to.

I hadn't seen the young katydid in 3 weeks. Saw it again last night. You can tell how hard they are to see. The first pic is 3 weeks ago and the second one is last night.

Kinda surprised the sigma 18-35 1.8 hasn't been mentioned. Its fast and good for close up portraits. Its also wide. I haven't complained about the bokeh, actually love its starburts never though of bokeh. Its worth mentioning.

The 55-300 plm is a joy compared to the 50-200. I come from iowan parents who emigrated to Minnesota. Welcome and enjoy the company.

Recently got flickr mail that flickr is changing hands soon. Wondering why no thread about this has surfaced. Also just got today a request when i logged on flickr on my phone to forego my password in some way. It sounded fishy. I chose the not now option.

Low-Light iso with PEF vs DNG

I took both photos and loaded them in camera raw 9.1.1 they are different color temperature so I assume a different profile. Never shot in pef before this. The pef is closer, the flower is white under incandescent light. that is all I can say. any other ideas or what to look for is welcome of course.

Its a shame that I can't get a higher usable ISO with pef. I was hoping. I think the slight difference I see is because the pef flower has less color. oh well.

That article probably meant pef/dng was used and not jpg.

And my last comment is that the pef and dng were loaded into pscs6 and topaz was applied. to see what differences would come up.

Low-Light iso with PEF vs DNG

So there was a thread about the K1 mii that said with PEF files it gained 2 stops over the K1. I was intrigued. Was this just what they used or was it inherent in the PEF files. I have always used DNG because my camera raw 7.1 didn't support PEF for 1 reason. I also figured using photoshop and DNG was more compatible. Well today I updated to camera raw 9.1.1 the last one that works with CS6.
First thing I noticed was that the profile is slightly different. I used a k-s2 with a A 50 1.4 at f8 ISO at 3200 and 1/15th. I do like the noise on the PEF files a little better but not by much. I then used topaz labs denoise 6 to do a light raw clean up. my crops are not exact but sized to 3cm x 3cm at 500/cm so that could have an effect. ( I was sloppy, I know but to lazy to redo now.)
Anyone have any observations on ISO and file type?

The da50 1.8 seems good to me. You have the 50-200 compare at 50, 55, and 77 for framing significance. Only if you feel the framing is significant would i buy another portrait lens at this time. The lighting, posing, and interaction will make more difference than the lens. Also if you are not satisfied with the da50 1.8 performance the 18-135 isn't going to to be better.

I think you are right. I used the takumar 135 2.5 with the 50 and i think its managable barely. That is 2.7x.

Well I tried out the takumar 200 f4 with the A 50 1.7. The DOF is so thin that without extreme light and fast shutter, 750. I couldn't get anything handheld. With a tripod it still took time to focus. a 58mm-49mm ring did the trick. here are 3 samples at different f stops. This is the wheels on a Bic lighter or torch so its easy to understand the scope of size we are talking about. Focus was at about 4cm's away.
this one is focused on the smaller flint grinding wheel. F4+F1.7.
lighter-gears-stacked-glass-shallow by swanlefitte, on Flickr

This one is focused on the outer bigger wheels at F16+F6.7 The tripod on grass shifted enough to front focus as turned the apertures.
lighter-gears-stacked-glass-deep by swanlefitte, on Flickr

At F16+F16 there was heavy vignetting but the curvature of the inner wheel is all in focus.

I just tried a maimiya 55 m42 with the flange adapter. I converted my nikkors with these plus a small shim so very close. Infinity focused to 15' so would focus a little closer with the added shim distance.

This one could go under show me your... texture, bokeh, chromatic aberation hehe. Well this demonstrates the 77mm CA nicely but I used the CA for this one.
Here is once again Gasteracantha Cancriformis and its web. Some build all the way in maybe this one is taking a break.

the Jiminy Conjecture. To those familiar with the Big Bang Theory show Sheldon lost a bet to Howard when Lewis Black confirmed it wasn't a snowy tree cricket. Not saying this one isn't.

Which lens for Panorama's and Nodal Ninja....

Wow lots of great and different advice.
I think fisheye vs rectilinear could mean alot.
I know a room vs a far off landscape also means alot. Horizon curve vs a room 90 degree change means a lot.
Please give what conditions your advice is for so i can use it. I am not the OP but i know enough to know that panos vary by distance, action, spherical or rectilinear, stitching of lines and other things. In theory i could take a 15mm and stitch a 8mm fisheye to the top, bottom, left and right. I wonder what that would look like.
