I'm glad I own a Pentax, I have been on holidays in Europe for the past month, three weeks ago while in Sicily at the Alcantara gorge I was crossing the river with my three year old K-30 and 18-135 WR lens when I slipped on a rock and fell over putting myself and my gear in the water. I nearly fully submerged the camera, while it was on. After a quick shake and dry off I turned it off and back on again and it was working fine, went right on taking photos. Once back at my hotel I opened all doors and flaps and it was completely dry inside. It is still working normal and I have gone on to take around another 400 photos. I think that I was very lucky because I don't think the WR is ment to resist against full immersion, but it held up. Thank you Pentax.

Hi everyone, my stepdaughter has asked me to be her unofficial photographer at her wedding next year ( she is only having an official videographer ), is the sigma a good choice of lens ( on sale for AU$249 ) or should I go wider. I have two K-30 bodies so I'm also thinking of getting an FA 77 ltd (AU$799) for portraits and run with the two bodies and lens set up so I don't have to swap lenses. These two lenses are at my budget.

Regards. John

The K5 series has a selectable mirror lock up function whereas the K30/50/500s only do it when you select the 2s timer.

how useful is focus peaking?

Yeah and he said.

NEX6 is not a DSLR so it can have peaking in the VF because it's electronic. There is no point in commenting about the K-30 not having it in the VF, technically not possible. Pentax should have made an EVF attachment for the K-01 which would have been a solution, but that probably belongs in another thread.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think the only way to have focus peaking in the VF of a K30, would require the VF to be an EVF and not a OVF, which would the make it a mirrorless camera and no longer a DSLR.

That's right, very odd, also I don't think it was doing it when I got 2 months ago but can't be 100% sure, probably too excited about the new gear, but it just doesn't seem right. I went back to the store that I bought it from and they rang the Pentax rep who said it was simply a low light warning, but I don't 100% believe him, all the flashing makes it hard to work out if the exposure will be correct.

K 30 Viewfinder

I need to explain a bit more.
No matter which mode I am in, auto Tv, Av, and even manual with the exposure meter showing correct exposure, while shooting a night scene, all the exposure settings shown in the viewfinder, ie, shutter speed, aperture, ISO and even focus lock, all flash constantly. Also in live view all the exposure settings are flashing red. However the photos taken are correctly focused & exposed. Has anyone else noticed this and is this normal. I don't have "show bright/dark areas" enabled, camera is basically set to defaults.

Hello everyone,

I've had an interest in photography ever since I did some darkroom work back in high school. When digital cameras first came out I only ever had a point & shoot, until now!
Was having a real hard time deciding on which dslr ( didn't really want to Canon or Nikon, they are like iphones, everone seems to have one ) until the K 30 was anounced, put one on order as soon as I could, what a great camera for the price. I got it with the 18-135 WR lens. Still learning how to use it, but having lots of fun with it.

John.
