KP Overheating? To KP or not...

It would be great if a KP owner would perform a test that would go like this:
In a relatively warm environment turn on the KP in video mode, 24p, highest quality, and then play around with it for about 30 minutes or so, then hit the record button and see what happens. If it dosen't shut down keep shooting for an hour or two, shooting like your shooting a fashion job, or a film, or a music video, 1 to 3 minutes at a clip but the camera never gets turned off. In my case the camera sometimes stays on all day.

Thanks for the link (Recording time and overheating differences between models) Unfortunatly there is no info on the KP but he is having the same problem I'm talking about that I've had with Canon, that I've never had with the K-01 under any conditions, and I just want to make sure the KP isn't going to shut down when I press record.

Does the KP overheat?
I said I wouldn't buy a DSLR untill they fixed the overheating in video mode issue... so they came out with the K-01.
I would like to up grade from my three k-01 cameras (bit rate) that I use exclusively for video/cine stuff (image stabilizer off - auto focus off - since I have no use for ether, no matter how well they work). The problem is that when I tried a Canon t2i (and recently a Canon 70D) after 20 to 30 minutes of just being turned on while looking for shots while working on a music video, shut down just when it was time to shoot the first shot, and I had a similar experience with the 70D. In contrast I have shot with the K-01 all day long on shoots in the Florida blazing sun and never a hiccup.
So after all that, does anyone know if the KP can overheat while shooting video. I don't care if it even has image stabilization or auto focus I never use ether for cine work, I just can't have a camera overheating and shutting down in the middle of a shoot.

And I'm not talking about the shutdown at 25 to 28 minutes that is due to regulations, I know about that and it has never been a problem, being that I can't imagine ever needing to shoot more than a minute or three on a cine style shoot, just concerned with the KP overheating and shutting down during shooting or like the Canon line which even overheats while siting there idling and then when you hit the record button the camera tells you it is going to shut down.

Thanks

What is the best Pentax to date for video, and where does the K-01 rank?
I am talking about IQ ONLY, as I would never use image stabilization or auto focus no mater how good they work.

I got the best lens for FF right here.

I'm not greedy.
Being that I have no intention of going back to full frame I could buy these and hold them until FF comes out (when that happens 24-70 ain't gonna be the work horse anymore, it's back to the 35-105) and sell them but then I would be a... well you know.
https://www.keh.com/251524/tamron-35-105mm-f-2-8-aspherical-sp-requires-adaptall-lens-67
I don't know If it's on par with the lens that got me to switch from Nikon to Pentax the 35-105 3.5 A, which will also be a great lens again when the FF comes out and a lot easier to manual focus than the 24-70. (Manhattan fashion & beauty photography and especially character study photography, indoor and studio it never comes off the camera. Had three of them.) But this one is constant 2.8 and it looks pretty good here on Pixelpeeper. A little barrel distortion not seen with 35-105A but not bad. https://pixelpeeper.com/lenses/?lens=13115 They also made a 28-105 2.8 but like the PK A 28-135 it's soft and not made for Pentax anyway.
Enjoy

Good question. What your missing is very subtle at first but it's about feel.
Think of it this way. Why is there an 85mm(55mm apsc) and a 105mm(70mm apsc) when they're so close.
Back in the day as a Manhattan fashion/beauty photo bum, I used to do a lot of beauty photography, and almost always with a Nikon 105 2.5 (just pushing the limit of up close and personal feel) later with a Pentax 35-105 3.5 @ 105. Sometimes an 85mm for horizontal shots, and rarely but sometimes a 135mm for when you wanted the women to look less touchable.

In the case of the usability of a 28-70 well it's just not as perfect any more. Your gonna have to think when you want to create your 105 look and where 28-70 might have got you through your entire project/film now your a lot more likely to need something wider.

But it does give reason to seek improvement which gives people like grispie something to complain about so that's good. :D

I'll just keep the K-01 for film stuff. I've got a few nice old long focus throw lenses that follow nice, I'm a happy guy. Full APSC sensor would be happier but hey.

Maybe I should follow my own advice in my signature (A picture is worth a thousand words, so shut up.) and ask:
Doe's anyone know if the K-3 does this (see photos) like the K-01.

#1 K-01 Still

#2 K-01 Video

#3 K-01 Video frame lined up with Still frame and outlined to show crop.

Isn't technology fun.

Croping extra top and bottom is of course necessary. I'm talking about an extra 10% or so off the sides and even more off the top and bottom (a zoom in effect) like with the k-01 (not very important to most). Pentax APSC sensor pretty exactly matches today's super 35mm cine format but not with an extra crop. (Super 35 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Music video, all scenes with the lovers shot with K-01 (first time using the camera)

Copied from an old post: Recently I got a K-01 strictly for film making so the camera is used as though it was a Panaflex, thus SR and AF are of no use to me anyway and I am very pleased with the film look over Nikon's or Canon's I've used. The only thing I would like to see fixed on this little gem, is a firmware hack to disable the sensor crop in film mode. Any ideas?

I wonder if anyone with an actual K-3 could actually check and actually see if the actual image "crops / zooms in and out" when actually switching between still and video shooting with image stabilization actually turned off. (using a tripod and not messing with the zoom would probably be good) A test with the image stabilization actually turned on (for those run and gun non cinematic shoots) would be cute to.

Hey thanks everybody for your help.
I guess all Pentax cameras crop the image due to the in body SR (unless some don't?).
It will be nice if it is somehow fixable and able to switch off the extra cropping when SR is turned off, being that the Pentax APSC sensor pretty exactly matches today's super 35mm cine format. (LINK> Super 35 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It's funny that movie mode SR and AF are even included on these types of cameras in the first place being that they are mainly used as digital motion pictures cameras in place of a Panaflex where the best SR or AF would never suffice.
Maybe if we put a bug in the Magic Lantern guys ears.
