"Card is not formatted" message with 645z

I've had this happen when I opened the card on my Mac and didn't close it properly. The solution was to reinsert it in the Mac and then "eject" it prior to removing it from the computer.

Contract clause

Not enough information. Who is "...........", you or the customer?

However, unusual terms such as "moral right" often have defined legal meanings that aren't obvious to the layman, for example, in US law, the term "without prejudice" is often very bad though it sounds like a good thing.

I'd ask them what it means but never accept vague reassurances like "oh, the lawyers make us put that in" or "we wouldn't do that". They should be able to give you a concise meaning that makes sense and if you are agreeable to that, have them rewrite the contract in plain language. It is always a good idea to ask a lawyer competent in Canadian intellectual property law, it won't cost more than an hour of his time.

This lens doesn't auto focus with my K-01 either (live view only). It finds a focus point that seems perfect and then the camera seems to issue a focus shift command, taking it out of focus. It is very repeatable and makes the lens unusable with my K-01, I suspected that it was a firmware bug on the camera, but now I'm wondering if there is too much play in the lens's focus mechanism for the camera to get a repeatable position reading. I haven't tried it on the K-3 yet.

My guess is K-2, like the second highest mountain, analogous to the 645z being the highest and the FF being the second highest, the K-3 being third.

I loved my K1000 and appreciated the superior build as compared to its price point comparisons, it was everything that I needed at the time and was incredibly reliable, surviving a car crash that destroyed the lens that was mounted on it. However, the second part of the statement no longer holds as today's Pentax DSLRs in fact have all of the gimmicks (save for pro video), their value just isn't promoted commercially.

In my experience in my circle of friends, those that have Pentax cameras are thrilled with them and those who have the Canikon consumer cameras aren't, in fact I am frequently asked to "fix" them to make them produce the images that they expect (they aren't broken and produce fine images if you know how to use them and can hold them steady enough, but realization never matches expectation). So why do they keep buying? Easy, they see pros use them and of course see the advertisements. A marketing appeal to be different seems like a good idea but I have never seen it actually work in any market for any product. The masses want to conform and be like those whom they admire and wish to emulate. Sponsoring pros is a great idea, the higher the profile, the better. But you also have to buy advertising - I believe that I saw a Pentax camera on a TV show last night, I recognized the strap but the network blurred the logo because they aren't advertisers.

Awesome pictures.

I guess I always assume that the snow line is more or less horizontal but have never verified that assumption. I see the mountain shots as tilted but they are awesome shots nonetheless.

"Camera lens blamed for train death"

Gives a whole new meaning to "live view"; it does have its place where situational awareness is important. However, a few years ago a fellow died using a thermal camera (live view) on a roof of a school, got so caught up looking at the screen that he walked backwards off of the roof. Safety first.

Crop Factor from a 645 to a K3 APS-C

I stand my the statement, at least as I understood the question. The whole point of crop factor is to have a common reference point to 35mm film format, so why does a lens made for MF get any crop factor adjustment? It is whatever focal length it is, just because it has a larger image circle to start with is irrelevant.

The K3 is a great camera available now and any newly announced camera won't be available for months. The new camera that was recently pre-announced doesn't even have a name, so I wouldn't expect it any time soon and it will likely be a mid range model anyways. And, as tvdtvdtvd pointed out, the K3 will have resale value even if you decide to jump to the latest and greatest in six months.

People Mall photography

I like the mall shots posted here and since my son's girlfriend was looking for some photography experience, I suggested that we head to one of the largest malls in the country which is not too far away. First, I checked their policies to see if photography was addressed and it was not. She used a D7100 with the kit lens and he used a Q7 with 01 prime. After about an hour of shopping and intermittent picture taking (nothing too obvious and nobody complained), mall security told them that it was against policy (they never bothered to write the policy down, but it is a private facility and they can make it up as they go along I suppose). The security person followed them for a half an hour to watch to see if they took any more pictures. They managed to shake him off and he called for reinforcements which they also managed to shake off by going up and down escalators. Mind you they are in High School and look about as harmless as anyone can be and were just looking for interesting things to take pictures of for non-commercial use.

I suspect that if they had used the Q (Q7, etc) exclusively they would never have been noticed.

I guess that this is all about the "dumb" things we do, but it is good to know that I'm not the only dumb one as I've done exactly that. I should have figured that there has to be an easy way to do it but I spent way too long fighting that battle until I finally got the manual out.

Was Santa Good To You?

I was photographic Santa this year for the family: 18-55 & 50-200mm for my niece (the first used; the second the $117 Amazon deal); two plastic fantastics, one each for my sons (one I had, the other an Amazon $103 deal); finally gave my K5 and my Tammy 18-250 to my younger son ( has been using them since I got the k3); helped my son buy a (used) Nikon 18-55 and (used) 50mm f/1.8 for his girlfriend after fruitless pleading to bring her into the pentax light. Turned my sister on to the PWS $299 k50 deal to go with the lenses I bought. All in all, I spent a few hundred $ out of pocket and helped four people get their start in photography. It was fun being Santa.

FLx1.5, simple as that.

No auto focus, but focus confirm will still work with manual focus.

I'm not a photo critic by nature, but I'll offer my thoughts. I like the composition, the tractor peeks around the corner as though it is sneaking around on its own. This is interesting. You neglected to mention the f/#, I'd stop it down a bit to sharpen up the wall, the background is far enough away that it will still isolate the wall and tractor. In post, I'd punch up the reds and lighten the image overall.

I agree with demondata, it would be improved with cropping away the trailer in the background. It adds nothing and distracts from the interesting composition.

Hypothetical Question

Thinking of all of the lovely pictures I have taken with a K20d and the kit lens, or for that matter with a 3.2MP point and shoot, I'd say yes. My biggest problem is finding time for post processing. With $15mil, I'd have plenty of time.
