Do Web Blogs Count as being published?

There are different types of "publishing" but the bottom line is if the general public or a specific group of people have acess to it, via a communication medium, then it has been published ......although I am not sure of its value on a resume :)

Poll: Flash Trigger Voltage Known to Work
Posted By Keith
Replies: 23
It is not a case of what voltage works as you maybe able to flash away happily with a 160v trigger voltage ....until one day it goes "pooffff"

I have accidently used a 120V trigger voltage flash a few times on my Pentax DSLR without a problem but I consider myself lucky.

The current information on the internet seems to suggest the max. is somewhere around 24v - 30v.

My current flashes trigger voltages are 6.5V, 9v and 14v

Regarding the 6v max. ....isn't this the max for Canons???

What kind of photos do you dislike?

PHOTOSHOP!!!! or similar software. For me it seems to be both the photographers friend and enemy.

"Doll like" glass eyes, bodyshop spray painted skin tones etc... Photoshop seems to turn some of us into quasi dermitologists, orthodontists and plastic surgeons ...lol

Your favorite flash?

sorry for the late reply.

I have a few flashes and none are are P-TTL auto flash. I personally can not justify the extra price of the P-TTL flash units when there are good manual units available secondhand... prices are through the roof in Australia.

My favorite is the Sunpak Auto 30DX (similar to the 383,422 etc..) I like it because it is powerful, has 4 power settings, swivel and bounce. It is not perfect but for $26 .....well I just look at it and smile.

When I look at buying a flash the first things I look for is a swivel head and adjustable power settings and preferably with a low trigger voltage.

I think you will find that your camera will only fire the flash at shutter speeds of 180 or below.

I have the K100D and I believe your flash settings are similar to mine?? Go to the Fn button and put your flash into manual mode

What Are Your Camera Strap Tricks?

for me camera straps always get in the way and tend not to use them - the Pentax sits rather comfortably and securely in my hand although I would like to try a hand strap.

will a faster graphics card help ?

Like everyone else has said a graphics card will not improve your situation. The Athlon 2600 is probably a minimum requirement of CPU capacity for Lightroom but you do need a lot more RAM. You will see a huge improvement with 2gb of RAM.

New Flash Bouncer?
Posted By Keith
Replies: 10

It seems that every Tom, Dick and Harry is comining up with a new and better flash bouncer to get our hard earned cash when a piece of free white cardboard ripped off a box often gets the job done well ... without making the photographer look like a real dick.

PS: I don't like them ..lol

I don't like your background colour choice on number 1 but it does not matter - both photo's captured beautifully and I think they are exceptional.

Good shot!! Maybe a bit more contrast along with a touch less saturation might do the trick - for me it just needs a bit of fine tuning to really get that WOW factor

Hi slowpez,

it is a nice photo and I love what you have done with the shadows. I think a little work in Photoshop or similar program will give your photo a little more impact - maybe it just needs a little work with contrast or gamma???

Prices in Australia?

Pentax flashes will cost you hundreds of dollars more in Australia than in the USA or internet. Lenses and SD cards are also more expensive here and you would be well advised to shop before coming here.

Also don't expect to find too much Pentax stuff in Alice Springs and maybe Cairns.

Why use a handheld light meter?
Posted By Keith
Replies: 15

I have a light meter sitting in my bag collecting dust. I have used about 6 times - 4 times to just see if it still works and twice for actually taking a photo.

It is quicker to fire off a couple of test shots than to meter the subject area - I don't see myself using too often and I think I will take it out of my bag now ..lol

How long have you gone....

As Mike Cash said you need to have your camera with you. You are hoping for photo oppurtunities to pop out in front of you when you have a spare 10 minutes - does not happen unfortunatley.

Also think beyond the square and look deeper into the big picture as you might find a great photo lurking in the corner - that's why macro photographers have so much fun.

I am sitting at my computer and see the tiny lights of my dvd reflecting off a CD on my desk - a close up photo of this could be exceptional .... there are photo's to be taken everywhere if you use your imagination.

My cats can no longer see in the dark from over exposure to my flash .. lol and the dog gets anxiety whenever he sees my camera. Expand your photography beyond living things and you might find a new world out there - even if you don't, at least your cat will appreciate it :)

Cheers

I personally would never take the risk of buying a memory card on eBay - there are probably a dozen genuine sellers competing with a thousand fake sellers worldwide.

After saying this your memory card does seem to look genuine. There is usually a bigger gap between the serial number and "Made in China" on the fakes. Your eBay seller looks clean.

Lets hope it is just your paranoia :)

Cheers
