Resetting frame counter

You can change the letters in front of the numbers. (at least as far as I know absolutely with the K7 and the K1-II)
Default it is IMGP. I changed it TO IMGA and when reaching 9999, changed it to IMGB and so on (currently at IMGF) 😊

When you would reset the numbering, you would end up with pictures with the same name with all rhe risks of overwriting older pictures.

I had exactly the same thing, ordered directly at Ricoh Germany.
It was well packed with no damage to the box. But the lens is so heavy that the bubbel plastic in the overbox was busted.

Of course could send it back and receive a new one. (didn't trust the optics because of the fall it must have had during transport, never tested it though)

How good is the water resistance of the 20-40 lens?

I have used all my WR lenses and camera's in pooring rain without any problem. Except my K7 when it got pouring wet in a water slide. Some buttons (ISO and +/-) got sticky after a while trough the dirty water. Keeping it under a running tap while constantly pressing those keys fixed the problem, and that is already several years ago.

How do Pentaxians handle their massive photo library?

I simply has directory per year with subdirectories for each location and in that directory the date(s) I visited that location.

I backup locally to a second harddrive in my computer and to 2 different USB drives which I rotate every month and store at a fiscal different location (like my garage box).

If i couldn't use Photoshop anymore, i guess i would take a closer look at ACDsee. This program looks to become more and more professional and usable. ( i already am using it to manage my pictures, it is very easy to batch rename or batch resize images)

A lot is lost in translation. Long time ago, there was Dutch brand "Electrolux" who produced vacuum cleaners. One of there salesmen thought he could speak good English and translated there slogan "Niets zuigt zo goed als een Electrolux" (nothing vacuums as good as a Electrolux) to "Nothing sucks like a electrolux"

They didn't sell much vacuum cleaners in the UK at that time :D

You give the latest camera to a 3 year old kid, and it makes the same pictures as any professional photographer.

But it makes you wonder, who is making the pictures, the person holding the camera, or the factory who developed the software, making it able to focusing on the eye of -lets say- a bird and following the eye wherever it goes. The only thing the person holding the camera has to do is point the camera more or less in the direction of that bird.

I refuse for ever to use such a camera (if you even can call it a camera). When i make a picture, i want to be able to say that i made that picture, and not the software developers.

Wow, that really is one's worst nightmare (digitally spoken). I really really feel you're pain.
I backup my pictures to a local second hard drive and a 2 generation external USB disk. And the most precious pictures to a server on my work.
I really hope i never will have you're pain, and 'only' just feel you're pain.
