Would the low end flash be a good investment for overkill?

So I have had a k10d and the kit lens. I am in New York today and will be leaving for a good six months to somewhere will I probably won't have much access to camera equipment.

Today I bought a Pentax 18-250mm and a FA 50mm 1.4

Is this a good setup for a beginner? I did I splurge too much..I came into this camera thing looking for a cheap way but have ended up sending a good 580+460+200=a lot of money.

Second of all...My camera still seems to underexpose everything. I know it is still probably me but could it be the camera?

Now I am thinking about buying a mac before i leave too..heh..

Thanks.

Maybe it is me, and it probably is but then could someone tell me that while I have the EV compensation set to +1 or +1.5 the pictures that I went outside to take with my dog were all underexposed still? Camera set to Tv mode because the dog is running around so I want to set the fast shutter speed. Maybe I need to put the ISO higher or something?

I just thought that these modes like shutter priority are supposed to figure out the EV by themselves. I tried multiple metering modes.

I recently bought a k10d from the store and have been having exposure problems as well. Now I am totally new to the SLR field so maybe this camera really is too much for me, but I have tried all the metering methods on a single object and they all come out underexposed. The EV compensation is set to zero.

For this reason I am 90% sure I am going to take the k10d back today. I will probably end up getting the k200d even though I am sure I will miss the big view finder and the front dial. My noviceness might be better served with the scene modes as well.

So I agree with the OP about exposure problems.

THanks for the thoughts guys. I have only just started photography as a hobby and I can see how the front wheel helps a lot. I also don't think that the size difference is that big, although I have yet to take the k10d on a hike so that could change.

I have a question about a picture i took today. I've been just pointing it all around trying to figure out how things react and such and I am not sure how to fix things like this.

How do I fix the harsh light from the window without making everything else too dark.

Also is it possible that a camera would constantly be making pictures dark. I doubt it but since I've never used a camera like this before just want to make sure its me lol.

Thanks.

Yeah those pics are from my parents backyward which I am staying at for a few days. My dad has this thing for Koy ponds. Its another great day so maybe i'll give the k10d one more day heh.

any thoughts on the pics? With raw files it seems that it is so easy to take a bad picture that is not exposed correctly, and then just fix it up a bit.

Two pictures I took today.

I noticed that a lot of my pictures were darker than they should be, but with gimp i just changed the exposure a bit and it looked better.

So i ended up buying the K10d today, and took some pictures. It was a display unit but they said it has been behind glass the whole time. I get it home and after taking some pictures I see that it has actually been used before as I found the pic count to be 150 and pics on the data card are of people outside of the store....sooo not sure if I am going to return it or not.

In anycase...I took some pictures today and would like to post them but I am having a hard time doing it smoothly. the .raw files actually appear to be .pef files, and i installed UFraw on gimp to edit them and save them but can't quite figure it out or the best way to do it. Any help is appreciated!

I know I know this has been asked hundreds of times but this is a specific question.

I have the opportunity to buy a brand new K10d on clearance from a local store for 639 without a kit lens. I also have the opportunity to buy the k200d for 588 or so on that amazon and rebate deal WITH the kit lens.

I am a total newb to SLRS and this will be my first.

Should I go for the k10d or the k200d? I like the viewfinder of the k10d a lot better...but i don't know how much I will miss the portait, sports, etc, modes in the k10d.

Thanks!
