Sweet! Thanks for a "bit" or should I say a "grain" (pun intended on both terms) of film nostalgia.

Thanks for this thread, friends. I have a similar problem with the same kind of lens and will attempt some of your suggestions as soon as I can get from my 'off-site" storage. Keep suggestions coming...

Turn your film camera into a digital camera for $249

I remember a few years ago device similar to a film canister (which held batteries and power circuit) with a film-like plate with a digital image sensor extended to the film gate without the need for a focus screen or an extra lens. It was designed to fit 'only' Nikon or Canon professional 35mm film SLR cameras. It had lower resolution than today's DSLR cameras and a crop factor too, but didn't got enough commercial traction. I wished it was adaptable enough to fit Pentax cameras.

I have an LX and noticed that it's more reliable when powered by 'silver-oxide' batteries, not the alkaline equivalents. Try getting a few pairs for spares.

"There is accomplishment through many advisers" states Proverbs 15:22 in the Bible. I hope that the counsel of all of our friends here has helped you about photo pricing. Who knows? May be this may turn into the start of a new gig for you. Success!

I second Apet-Sure idea, unless... you experience strange behavior (some channels getting lost) on any flat screen TVs in the house while using LED lights (Wife and/or kids may not appreciate that).

Dynamic Range, Film vs. Digital

I tend to agree with Alex645 opinion that digital image sensors in many DSLR cameras tend to be more like slide film... with the exception that (on my K10D), "metering for the shadows" in digital is a better strategy than the "metering for the highlights" technique used with slide film.

Como diria Spock en Viaje a Las Estrellas: "Impresionante!". (Like Spock said in Star Trek: "Impressive!".) Yo he desarmado y rearmado camaras Pentax SLR de pelicula fotografica de 35mm y algunos objetivos Pentax tambien en el pasado, pero debo decir que todavia me intimada reparar una camara DSLR digital.

Translation (via Google Translate): As Spock would say in Journey to the Stars: "Awesome!". (Like Spock said in Star Trek: "Impressive!".) I have disassembled and reassembled 35mm Pentax SLR cameras and some Pentax lenses also in the past, but I must say that I still want to repair a digital DSLR camera.

I noticed something similar in my first-generation LX when I purchased it brand new, but never gave it too much attention to it: it worked 98% of time.

...And another one. I have a K10D and will like to add another body (may be a K5ii), but I keep most of my FF lenses because I shoot the occasional film and wish that I can afford in the future a K1 ("Somewhere over the rainbow...♫). For now, I only intend to add an APS-C Ultra-wide lens to my arsenal. If you can get the K1, enjoy,,, and share some of your pictures with us.

Being in a similar situation, too, My Pentax ZX-5n and Tamron 28-80 zoom lens were stolen from my car in NE Ohio. But insurance paid for it minus deductible (did I ever mention that I hate deductibles?). And since our family priorities changed somewhat, I was never able to replace it. So, as a movie character states: "I feel your pain",

FA 50 F1.4 or A 50 F1.7?

I'll go for the FA one for both the auto-focus and the 1/2 f-stop increase (Yeah, I'm an available-light freak... :) ), if money was no object. But, currently, my signature phrase says it all.

Regarding weddings, you really have to love to try them. If you have a knack for photojournalism (aka "the unpredictable"), really care about your subjects, both photographically and as people and have backups for your hardware (and files, once the wedding is over), you should be fine. Now practice, practice and (did my memory fail?), practice beforehand.

Being there; suffering that. If you don't mind to work with used equipment, try KEH for earlier Pentax, Metz and other makers flash units. Before committing to buy, try downloading the manuals for the units you select to get and idea of how they'll work with your camera.

Which mode do you use with flash, and why?

Like ChristianRock, I use the Pentax AF-280T flash unit with my K10D. What I do is that I set both the camera and flash to the same fixed ISO (in this example, ISO 100), the camera mode to Tv (yes, Tv) and the shutter speed at 1/180s or higher and the flash mode to dedicated Automatic at Red or Green setting. The reasoning: Av for some reason sets the camera to a slower shutter speed than 1/180s and as soon as the flash recycles to full charge it sets both the camera's shutter speed to X (1/180s) and the lens aperture to the correct setting (f8 or f4, depending on the color of the dedicated auto setting). Of course if you are mixing environmental light with flash, setting the camera to Av is a better option.
