Just a few pics from Seneca, South Carolina - eclipse party in the backyard of my sister-in-laws house. Pentax K3 w/HD DA55-300 and Marumi 58mm ND100000 filter. My niece and I shared the filter with her new Canon she received for a graduation present recently.

Shoulder-carried camera bag suggestions welcome

I too will be taking a trip soon, and I usually use my Lowepro Nova 180 AW for day trips. It will hold my K3 with lens attached and several other lenses - long telephoto, and some short prime lenses, especially if I stack them. Though the weight of everything may be too much to carry all day. I also have a Nova 200 to carry more lenses in the car. I have used the Nova 200 also on airplanes, it's large enough to fit a Microsoft Surface size tablet in the back behind the camera and lenses, so I have all of my important items on my person, but will fit on my lap or at my feet.

We are taking our first cruise, and I haven't completed decided, but I know my DA18-135, HD 55-300, and the Sigma 12-24 I just picked up will be going, probably my 35mm macro limited, and a 50mm Takumar for fun shots.

Being as we are nearly to the realization of the hopes and dreams of many Pentaxians - the release and delivery of the long-awaited full-frame K1 -

I find the musings of Roger on, especially the history of photography, to be very enjoyable and informative reading. I just came across this tonight, and thought it was quite hilarious, if light hearted.

Had anyone else seen it yet?

"We are Here"

BTW - I've been wondering what the next model of Pentax DSLR will be named? K (-)1?

First used lens purchase. A 50mm 1.7

I think that exact lens was my first used lens purchase also. I got some beautiful pictures with it - some we still have framed in our living room. I've since moved to purchasing Takumar M42 lenses - I like the build quality better. A little more involved to use, but they've lasted 50-60 years, I'll bet they'll last another 50. Great purchase on that A50!

Stories behind lens purchases

Last spring I started a generic "followed search" on eBay - SLR w/lens - Pentax brand - shows up lots of old cameras and lenses. Anyway, someone listed a estate sale find - a camera bag w/an Pentax ME Super & telephoto lenses - they didn't list all of the lenses, just pictures of the bunch. There was one lens in particular - no picture of the front of it, so no one could tell immediately what it was. I could tell it was a Pentax lens though - I ended up counting the rows of knurls on the focus ring - 11. There was only one lens in the entire lens database that matched what I saw -
K28mm F2. Yep.... I think the bidding started at $35 or something. By the time the auction was over, someone else had it figured out, but I still won the auction at $388 for the whole bag. It even came with an original Pentax k28 case. I had to send it to Eric because the aperture was sticky, but all in all, a good investment I think. Someone has one listed on eBay right now for $1298.00 - that's just crazy!

Should I buy a second hand K-3?

I upgraded a few months ago from the K7 to the K3 and gave the K7 to my son. I purchased a "previously owned" K3 on an auction site and haven't regretted it once. I haven't had a single problem with it other than the battery doesn't last as long as my previous camera. I've had 4 digital cameras total in my life - Olympus, Sony and then the two Pentax - I've never had a major issue other than an occasional lockup - remove the battery and good to go. So I guess I've never been to worried about buying a used product - but maybe I've just been lucky. Hope it works out well for you.

Get a SuperTak 50mm f1.4 w/a m42 adapter. I have several - I just love the build quality and feel of the focusing ring. - I gave my A50 1.7 to my son with my K7 when I got my K3 - no wait, it's still on the shelf - I gave one of my A50 f1.4 lenses to my son.

The last several posts mentioned the K28 F2. I picked one up a few months ago, and I've taken a few pictures with it. The pictures I've taken just don't just out at me as anything special. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something special to look for to make me appreciate it more - so I don't sell to one of you guys??

Does your k-3 squeak?

My uneducated opinion is it is the ultrasonic dust removal system. I've only had my K-3 for a week, but if I listened closely, I could always hear my K-7 make exactly the noise you're describing.

New laptop suggestions

Just my 2 cents - I'm running Lightroom on my Microsoft Surface pro 3 - w/256Gb hard drive and 8 gb of ram. With the keyboard I think I paid about $1500 - In my opinion it's the best of both worlds - complete windows laptop and a tablet for convenience. You would need a cheap USB disc drive of course for the few times that you actually have to install something from a disc.

Replacement for K-7

I just picked up a used K3 w/a flucard for less than $500. It's supposed to be shipped out tomorrow, so I hope it's in excellent condition as described. I've been waiting several years to replace my K7. I plan to give the K7 to my son w/some of my extra lenses - It was my first DSLR - and I'm still in love with it, but I look foward to seeing what the K-3 can do.

I also have the Tamron 17-50. I love it, I bought it used a few years to shoot a friends wedding. I pulled it out last week to take Aurora pictures because of the 17mm and f2.8. But last winter I picked up the 18-135, and I took that on vacation because of its light weight, small size, and extra reach. I've recently gotten into the old Super Taks also, I've got 8 of them, and would like to get more. I don't have the 105mm yet, so if you're selling...... My plan is to get a K3 or K3II later this year and give my son my K7 with some of my lesser used lenses. They all have their benefits and drawbacks. Depends on the day I guess.
I would never get rid of the Super Tak 50 - unless I was going to get a "mintier" specimen. Nothing beats the Super Tak feel.
I don't have any experience with the other long zooms, but no doubt they would be great addtions.

Good evening - I drove to the post office this morning to pick up my shipment of four Taks with a Spotmatic attached. My target lens was a SMC 85mm 1.9. Thankfully, it was the best condition out of the four; a couple of the others have sticky apertures. I haven't even cleaned the dust off yet, but below is a couple of pictures I took during the day. I'm looking forward to the possibilities.

I love mine so much I want one of every Tak lens now - I've picked up the 200 F4, 35 F3.5, a 7 element Super-Multi Tak 50 f1.4, and I search online every day for a good deal or a group of others with a Spotmatic attached. I know they're not all the same - but the build quality is amazing.

I also used a CFL compact fluorescent black light screw in bulb from H.D. in a small gooseneck table lamp. It seemed to do the trick.

Hi all. I just wanted to try to post a couple of pictures I took yesterday. I had bought my wife flowers last week, and my sons informed me that I just bought them for myself for photography. The pictures the resullt of my 1st attempt with a reverse mounted 8 element 50mm Super Takumar which I acquired recently. I am now in love with the Takumar build and quality. Now that the snow is melting around here, I hope to have more opportunity to get out and take some more pictures.

Pentax Wedding Photography?

I recently shot a wedding for a personal friend with a K-7 and a Tamron 17-55 2.8 lens and Pentax 540FGZ flash (bounce flash mostly). I was very pleased with most of the pictures, but it's the only wedding I've ever done, it was quite challenging inside the reception hall (no windows and fluorescent lighting) and I did it for free, so they didn't expect much to start with. I don't plan to shoot weddings regularly, - just not my cup of tea.
