The only other problems I have that I can think of are orange or red subjects. Sometimes the red looks orange and vice versa.

I do have Photoshop CC, but don't have much prowess with it. I have tried desaturating the photos, which does remove the purple hue, but it also removes the blue in the center of the wide end which needs to remain. I played with different backgrounds, and am getting more accurate color rendition on the green background, for some reason.

Hi All. I'm using an older K200D with Pentax 18-55 lens to shoot product photos. I'm using Lowel Tota and Omni tungsten lighting. The background is black velvet. I'm having trouble with clear plastic and vinyl items having a purple/blue cast to them. I've tried manual white balance, AWB, and tungsten. The purple/blue areas in the photos should be clear. Any suggestions?

Has any body used Gary Fong's Lightsphere for outdoor portraits? What about indoors with dark walls and ceiling? What were your impressions? Has anybody tried the new collapsible Lightsphere?

I checked "Other", because in body shake reduction was the number one deciding factor for me. I also was a previous Pentax film SLR user, and always liked my Pentax better than Canon or Nikon.

You know, that might just be it. Here is another comparison. The left was shot as jpeg and the right was shot in raw. The raw shot looks better to me.

Thanks everyone, for the great replies. I don't think it's my monitor, other colors look fine on it. I think it's the lights. I paid more attention to it, and noticed that the color visibly brightens to the naked eye when I turn the lights on. In the photo below, of the same bag, the left side was shot with my little Canon point n shoot under office fluorescent lights. The right side was shot under the tungsten lights with my Pentax. To me, at least, I can really see the difference. The color is a subdued red, not bright red.

I generally get over 500 shots from my NIMH Duracells and Energizers. Lately, I started having problems with them not lasting as long. I was using a rapid 2 hour charger, but when I went back to my normal (several hour) Energizer charger, the problem was solved.

Hi All,

I have a K200D, and I shoot a lot of product photos at work with it. I'm having trouble with a red item, though. No matter what I do, it looks orange. It's a red Cordura bag, shot against Savage tech green seamless background paper. The lighting is 3200k tungsten constant lights with white umbrellas. I set the white balance with a sheet of white poster board. I've tried adjusting the color in CS3, but it only changes the background, not the hue of the bag. Any ideas?

It's $749.95 at Adorama. I would have thought the K20D prices would have come down since the K7 came out, but I guess not.

Gawan, thank you, I like the contrast too. JMR, you're right, an overcast sky or shade would certainly give more even lighting. However, in this case, I think I prefer the direct sunlight. The shadows give it character, I think, and the harsh lighting emphasizes the textures.

Great shots, all of them! I especially like the chain. Is that the Jeremiah O'Brien? I've been to the USS Pampanito, but not since I've had my DSLR. I'm going to have to take another trip to Fishermans Wharf.

These are nothing special, just the emerging new growth on my rose bush that I pruned back last Fall. I think some do have some interesting texture, though. All taken hand held with my Sigma 70-300, at 300mm.

Good points. I would always do both, regardless of what cleaner I use. In fact, the Lens Pen has a built-in brush, and I have a rocket blower.

Hi All,

I just got a Chinese lens pen from Ebay. I haven't tried it on a lens yet, but I noticed that when I touched the cleaning tip to a piece of paper, it left a black carbon like residue. Is this normal?

I have a wireless (not infrared) remote that I got off Ebay. It works great. There is a receiver that plugs into the camera, and a transmitter with an extendable antenna. Even with the antenna retracted, it has great range. It works from anywhere, front, back, or sides of the camera. And it has the half-press for fucus feature. I love it.

Pentax vs. Sigma/Tamron Lenses

Are the Pentax brand lenses better than Sigma or Tamron? I'm talking specifically about the Pentax DA 55-300mm vs. the Sigma 70-300mm APO or Tamron 70-300mm Di LD. Also, is there that much difference between f5.6 and f5.8?

Frustrations with Sigma Flashes

Hi All,

I have a Sigma EF530 DG Super flash that I really like. But I started having problems with it recently, it wasn't putting out full power and it wouldn't fire every time. I sent it back, and they replaced the flash tube, but it's still doing the same thing. I sent it back again, but haven't received it yet.

In the mean time, I bought an EF530 DG ST because it was so inexpensive. But I'm having problems with it too. Exposures are very difficult to get correct. Sometimes they're very dark, and other times totally washed out, both with direct and bounce flash. Yesterday, i was shooting something about three feet away, and I had to turn the EV down 2 full stops, and swivel the flash head around completely backwards. It's like the P-TTL isn't working, but I do believe I'm getting the pe-flash.

Anybody have any ideas? Think it could be something in the camera? I appreciate any help or ideas. Thanks!

Problem with Sigma EF-530 DG Super flash

Hi All,

I've had a Sigma EF-530 DG Super flash for almost a year now. I have used it a lot, with great results. I tried to use it last night at a party, and the first shot was fine, but after that all of the shots were so underexposed they were almost black. Didn't matter whether it was bounced or direct flash. It was like the flash wasn't putting out full power. Also, it wouldn't fire all the time. When I pressed the test button, it would fire sometimes but not all the time.

I tried it again at home this morning, and it's still doing the same thing. As far as I can tell it's on P-TTL auto mode. I've tried it on manual, and it's still way underexposed, even at full power. Any ideas? Could it be fried? Can anyone tell me what the warranty period is on it? I can't seem to find it anywhere, not in the manual nor on their website.
