645S/F/A - what will it be next year?

Hasselblad does use this sensor on their side, so it is not completely locked. And I think that Pentax signed an agreement some time ago to get this sensor and see if they could make something about it (and clearly said later that it was not a commercial agreement to develop and sale a full 645 format soon, just a case study).
So technically Pentax could go that way. Do they which so ? I sure don't know.

PS : the 100MP full 645 format sensor delivers 4K video with Hasselblad, just in case people would be worried about video.

I had the same problem on mine (2nd hand). The front part started to move, then started to be unable to focus automatically and finally the diaphragm wouldn't work. They changed the AF subassembly and it is like new now.
Don't wait for repairs really... it will only get worse until you can't use it anymore (and risk to drop the front elements on the ground).
I'm in Europe so I can't give advice on repair services in your country...

In fact there were 2 versions of the 645 25mm : a DFA first, and then a DA. The first one covered full frame, the second was a crop, but shared almost all the components with the DFA.

Can next 645 digital be made less deep?

The Fuji is not so small in the flesh, in particular it is very deep, much more than what you would expect. And I agree on the lenses, they are rather big, so the combination is far from small. The Hasselblad X1D, on the other hand, is compact.

There are 2 sizes of sensors made by Sony for MF :
- 50MP 33x44mm found in our (previously ?) beloved 645Z, shared by Hasselblad in X1D, H6D50C, and Phase One IQx50 backs, considered as crop,
- 100MP 54x40mm found in Phase One IQ3 100MP back and Hasselblad's H6D100C. Same size as previous 60MP and 80MP CCD backs from both companies, considered as full frame in medium format digital world.

Leica is 30x45mm, from different supplier, not Sony (CMOSIS design, made by STMicroelectronics I think, not sure)

Almost exactly my thoughts... except that I still really don't like EVFs, even Leica Q's one, which should share the hardware with Fuji's EVF if I read correctly. So I have no hope for this one. But it is only me.

I am still amazed by the amount of comments speaking about "game changer", "xx killer", "revolutionary", "superb quality", and giving market share projections.
Do you realize that you are talking about a fully working mock-up ?

There is nothing wrong about dreaming out loud, and projecting your wishes, but you haven't seen anything yet. You can be attracted to it, you can be highly curious, but you can't take it out to take pictures yet and confirm any of your dreams. So calm down... and send zillions of messages to Pentax to ask them to add more lenses to the roadmap, or to propose new improved concept of MF, and in general ask them to react to the new offerings being developped and announced !
;)

What a marvelous display of marketing it was from Fuji... and it seems to work. "game changer", "outsanding quality", and so on. Let's sum :
- we don't know the size
- we don't know the resolution of the EVF
- they say it's a brand new sensor : OK, call me fool. It's a 2 year old sensor (but a really good one)
- we know nothing about battery life
- they have decided with their new mount to stick forever with "APS-C medium format"

The only really appealing point for me is the lenses they want to propose, and especially the ones pointed by Gavin (23 and 110mm). The rest, not so much.
EVF : not for me, I have never found one that delivers the "wow" effect I have with OVF (especially the 645Z one). The camera is not particularly beautiful, it is not slim at all, more so if you compare with Hasselblad's X1D : this one is slim. Have you seen the back of the Fuji ?

All in all, I think the best offer in term of engineering is the Hasselblad's mirorless : you have mirorless in small package with small sensor, you have access to legacy lenses made for digital and big sensor (and made by Fuji, few will say they are crap), and if you have already an Hasselblad H, it is a perfect light back up. You can share lenses, and get back to H camera for bigger sensor needs.

Still Fuji is a good manufacturer, I don't think this one will be a bad camera in any way, but for the moment, I am really happy with my 645Z which is a joy to use, with the same sensor, with really nice lenses, with magnificent OVF, and alreadyy available ! And which could evolve with bigger sensor. The Fuji never will...

Did you drop the battery on the ground in the past ? They are sensitive to shocks, but other than that, no reason to swell. Anyway, this one is dead, need to be replaced.

Mine experienced sea spray ( in fact a bit more than this : big waves crashing on the shore where I was trying night photography), enough to be completely soaked. I passed it under clear water in my bathroom after, and it is still working flawlessly !! Cold has never been a problem (except liquid crystals not so liquid anymore after more than one hour at -25 C)

Bought one in july 2014, around 10K pictures taken, no problem so far. No freezing ever, the only problem is I let it fall down on hard ground 3 weeks ago through open bag, and apart from metal and paint loss, it is still perfectly working (I have to admit I am rather impressed).
