Permissions to use photos in instructional YouTube videos

You could provide them a non-exclusive license. There will be boilerplate agreements available online. In essence, you can charge them if you want, and they get to use the photo for this project. It's not exclusive, you can still share anywhere and they agree not to share it with other people but can usually use it in anything else they want. I've sold just a couple this way.

If it's academic or educational I usually just let them use the photos. Sometimes they have a budget for that and pay me a little. I don't actively go looking for that business.

I think this is the kind of surprise you want to spoil or give a "gift card" for. A camera is a tool. Craftspeople have strong opinions about their tools, and she's been thinking about this for a while, I'm sure. Just let her know you want to make this upgrade happen, and she can decide which way she wants to go. If she's just been wary about spending the money the support from you is all she'll need.

Will you sell your current camera when the new K comes?

I'd like to get a new body if it's a major upgrade from the K3II. Otherwise, getting a FF body would make more sense.
In defense of the K5 when I mount the DA300 on it as my second body in the field it produces very nice images. The rendering from the 16MP sensor is very pleasing. Plus, the K5 is a tank, it's put up with a lot of abuse. That's a high bar to cross.

If anything, I'd check with my various nieces and nephews (and grand status kids) to see if they'd be interested and actually use it. I'd need to pick a couple lenses to go with it. The K5 doesn't sell for a lot so I'd rather give it if it will be used.

I shoot manual for field macro. Pentax does make it easier than some other DSLR brands, but it's all down to managing your variables.

Otherwise, I usually shoot TAv mode when walking around. Set your aperture at a good place, then balance shutter speed for comfortable ISO and effect. It's semi-manual.

Welcome!
I think you can find 67 gear fairly easily, but buyng and processing film nowadays....

I can't argue with the desire to go big on film, though, it's really special.

These big syrphid flies are out in numbers here, too. The late-season asters are becoming more common in yards and open space, which is great.

Spring Andrena bees rely on the rose-family fruit trees, and do a great job pollinating. These plants have been around far longer than honeybees in North America.

Welcome to the clubhouse! I still use a K5D as my second body, it still renders great images.
I'll get to visit Amsterdam again eventually.

Having learned a few things since guessing a swallow above, I'd say a phoebe or pewee now. We've had phoebes nesting near the yard for a few years, and they're entertaining hunters.

I'll have to see if I can play with color on these. It's not my strong suit...

And young 'possums are really cute. Not always the brightest critters out there, though.

That turned out pretty good. It captures more gloom than promise of a nice day once the fog lifts. Though it looks like a bit of sun maybe to the right.

I bought a set, and still need to figure out how to use it well.
I found a pair of flashes with mini softboxes were better for close work. I think the Lumecubes are good for remote lighting and such.
