People My niece married

Last week my niece married, and I was asked to do some wedding photography. Not something I did before, and I had the somewhat crazy idea to shoot mainly with manual focus lenses. I armed my Kp with the Pentax-A 28/2.8, and the K5 with the Super Tak 105/2.8. here some results...

Landscape Atmosperic Perspective

Another one from our holidays in the French Alps. I think this one has a weird effect, with a rather strong case of atmospheric perspective: the front parts are much clearer than the background, and this is augmented by the rather large distance between the two.

We had a two-weeks holiday in the French Alps, where we hiked and visited some great places. Here's a first photo, made in Mont Dauphiné, converted to B&W.

Sorry! Seen your message, but we had serious family issues this week. Please, pass it on, I certainly won't have time in the upcoming months (nothing to do with the family though).

Cheers!

Still Life My First Attempt With Still Life.

Hi Tony!

Nice one, given it is a first try. I have two comments though, but please, bear in mind that it is a matter, as always, depends on what you want to convey. But if I make a still life, and I do once in a while, I see it as a exercise in light and composition. And the first - light - has to augment the composition, and vise versa. And then, a still life becomes a study in forms....
My two comments are about these two: light and composition, and I will start with the second.

Composition: yours is nice arranged, or better: sorted. Bottles by bottles, fruits together, as are the cheeses. And there are many of most. I would say: skip at least half of the items, maybe 75%, and try to arrange them in amore interesting way, as if they were left without purpose...
Light: it's harsh! If you want your light to enhance your composition, you should go for a low-key soft light solution. Place a table near a window, best exposed to the north (given you're somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere :D ) to ensure soft, blue light, and let it light your composition from aside. Make it a play of lights and shadows... You will see that light and shadows enhance the composition, and your photo will be a study in forms.... Underexpose a tad, and work the lights in PP.

There are many good examples on flickr, you could look there to understand what I mean. But still: this is of course only if you want to have a more classic still life. It's all about what you want to convey...:)

Good luck!

I recently acquired a Pentax Kp: my trusted K-5 started to be quirky randomly (well, that's what quirky is, isn't it?) I paid the full price for the body, but the shop - probably all Pentax-selling shops in Europe? - had an action: I got a free HD Pentax-DA 1:4-5.8 55-300mm ED WR lens with the body. I am not a very huge fan of zoom lenses, and I prefer manual focus, but I did not reject the gift... Here some random test shots, all in our garden or house, or through the windows of the house... All hand-held, and some with rather dim light.... Not the best conditions for tests, I admit, but still,,,,

We had a party yesterday, one of my wife's aunts turned 80. So, many people, crammed in a tight area. I was asked to make photos, luckily, so I could move around and wasn't obliged to talk too much. During dinner (outside), I shot this one. The youngest of a nephew of my wife. Here grandpa in the foreground, the arm of her father, her oldest sister laughing, and her mom in blue. But I liked her peeking, somehow camera shy, but still very nosy....

Sorry to hear that Sandy. :(

---------- Post added 04-05-19 at 10:19 PM ----------

Dear friends, three SIC's in a row is too much for me. I can't bring up more creativity, so, I will drop out, early. Last two months brought back the joy in photography, thank you for your company and encouragement! I know we will see each-other again in some SIC in the future! Near future, I hope....:)

Good luck this month, enjoy it!

Sorry, Sandy, but I decided to go a different path: I probably will use the Zenitar 16mm F2.8 for April. It's more versatile, and I expect much time indoors, and a F3.5 lens will be too challenging. Besides, I am in for something wider, to make some shots of our new house too.... Probably another month, my apologies again....

I don't know. This month (March) hasn't been as good as the one before with the Helios, and it definitely was to blame on the lens for a part. And I had no energy to comment, too much distractions at work. I'd love to participate in another SIC though, also because I bought me a new camera the day before yesterday. My beloved K-5 starts to disintegrate, showing several malfunctions lately. So, I decided to go for the Kp. It will arrive in a few days, maybe 2 weeks. The longer delivery time is because the free (!) 55-300 lens they offered has to be ordered elsewhere. But I'd love to try the new camera, with a vintage lens...

Two days more to decide, but probably I will be in...
