I also upgraded from the K-x, which was my first DSLR aswell, to the K-5IIs. What can I say, as much as I liked the K-x, the K-5IIs is amazing and considering it's much cheaper as the K-3, I'd go for it again.

The day i took this picture with my trusty K-x was just really awesome. Every winter Yoko Ono herself switches the light on on her peace tower, so me and my friends (the guy standing at exactly the right spot was my flatmate) decided to go there the as ferries are free on that day. The tower, which is basically just a beam of light, is located on a small island, called Viey, north of Reykjavk. The tiny island is than packed with people, there's some live music and overall it's as peacful as it can get.

Thanks guys!

I'm still not sure if it's worth the effort, not in general but for me. I know Eric is doing a superb job, but it's simply cheaper to buy a working MX than shipping it to the US and getting it repaired. But I also don't want to give my MX up... Tough choice!

It seems that most of you are living in the US, is there someone who has send his Pentax from Europe to Eric? I'd really like to get my MX fixed but I'm a bit afraid of the shipping cost, maybe taxes and the time it will take...

There's not much to add to this. But I'm afraid that people who think like this will be a minority.

A film SLR feels better than a digital SLR ?

I'm looking forward to make my first experiences with my first SLR. Starting with a P+S, going to a DSLR I kind of take the opposite way of learning photography. I just shot my first roll of film and I'm pretty sure I messed up at least 90% of the film, mostly because I had no idea what I'm doing. Also because the camera has some issues and it seems that the camera hasn't been used in ages.
I think I like it. Wether I like it more than shooting with my K-x, I don't really know yet.

Connecting the camera via wifi to your google glasses would be nice, you could have the live view directly in front of your eye! That would be pretty awesome.

My new old Pentax MX and its problems

Thanks Mingji, I don't really want to fiddle around with the camere myself. I'm afraid to destroy more than that I fix it :o I found a small shop here in Reykjavik that has some filmcameras for sale, maybe I get some help there. At the moment I don't have enough money to send the MX to Eric, but this is still the best option I think.

Thank you all for the advice!
I could get the mirror back to work by myself (I just released the shutter a couple of times and flipped the mirror back manually at this little lever). Apparently the lubrication got sticky as some of you already assumed.

I got it for 70 with the 50/1,7 lens (which I can use but where this small aparture contorl lever is missing), so I think it's totally worth to repair it :)

Yeah, that's probably the reason. The guy who owned it before wasn't really carefull both the camera and the lens aren't in a really good shape...

If it works shipping it from France to the US it should work from here aswell, only the customs here is kind of weird and charged me VAT for it when i got it shipped here from Germany in the first place. I'll check if there's someone here who can do it and if not I'll send it to Eric :)

Thanks for the quick answer!
I'm not sure if it's practical for me to send it to Eric H. to the US. I think I'll first check out if there's someone here in Iceland who can do a CLA. Just to know what's going on there, any idea what causes this mirror problem?

Hey guys,

i recently got a Pentax MX with the M50/1,7 i bought for my Pentax K-x. I thought it would be nice to start learning the old-school way of photography to improve my skills for digital photography. And it's quite cool (hipsterish :p).
Now after looking at the manual and my first steps, i had the famous problem with the sticky mirror foam, so I had to flip the mirror back by hand. That problem somehow solved itself, but now I got a new one: when I'm pressing the release, the mirror flips up veeeeery slow. Once it is up I can press the release again, the shutter does its job and the mirror flips back.
Now my question: what is going on there?
