A few images from my 77 Ltd.

I am a little worried about my lens because it has 1mm rotational play in the focus ring. Could anybody tell me if this normal? If not how would it have on performance? By the way it was made in Japan.

Autofocus test

I recently bought a used 77ltd and because I have a short guarantee so if there are any problems then I want to find them before the guarantee runs out. Over the past few months I have got the impression that it misses focus more often than my da70 does and when my da70 does it is my fault. I'm a bad photographer, my judgement is not always correct. So tested this impression by photographing similar scenes with both lenses. The da70 didn't miss once. Attached are the images the 77ltd struggled with.
AV, center point,
1 The centre point is on the silver metal post. I expected it to miss and it did every time

2 The centre point is on the left red and white square. I did not expect a problem but all I got was a flashing green hexagon.

3 The centre point is on the blue area next to the large s. I expected it to struggle because the tones are similar.

The 77 should, because it focuses at a wider aperture of f1.8, be more accurate than the 70 but it is not. The da70 had no problems focusing.

Therefore I tend to think it is a lens problem and not the autofocus mechanism. Unfortunately I live in Japan and because my Japanese language ability is limited I cannot discuss this with anyone here so I rely on the good will of the experienced members on forums like this for advice.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

k10d shutter not releasing

Thanks for the responses. I am in Japan and I think that most places will send it to pentax for repair which means it will be expensive. money is tight at the moment so unless there is a cheap fix will try to find the best deal on another camera. The KX new I guess is about $150 more than the cost of repair but would that be an upgrade. A reconditioned K20D if I can find one in Japan is probably less than the cost of repair of the k10d would that be a better than the kx??? The K7 too much.:(

k10d shutter not releasing

Today I was out shooting and suddenly I pressed the shutter release button and it didn't fire. Focus locks. I can feel the camera try to do something but nothing. I try the preview and nothing. Removed the lens and thats working off the camera. Removed and replaced the battery still nothing. The mirror doesn't lock up in cleaning mode.

So I suspect that it is a problem with the shutter :(. If it is how much would it cost to repair? Could it be something else?

Any help would be much appreciated.

The images on here are great. I particularly like the images with the da15. Been looking through my 320gb of raw file mainly taken with the 70ltd and found these.

I just liked the light through the blind in this scene

One of a number taken of some kind of fertillity dance I think

The high street is closed to traffic in Ginza, on Sundays. This is one of a number of high contrast images taken there.

sensor life K10d

Thanks for all the replies. It seems I have yet again asked another silly question:o
You are probably correct when you say the difference in noise is coming from other factors.

I was looking through my images taken over the past 2 years and comparing iso 100 raw files taken at similar exposures in similar conditions. I noticed that images taken now appear to be noisier than images taken then. So I thought I would ask the question REGARDING THE LIFESPAN OF THE SENSOR but perhaps the shutter is more likely to fail before the sensor.

I will have to buy another body sometime especially now that the new cameras handle noise so much better than the K10d

Could anybody tell me what the estimated lifespan of the K10d sensor is? I ask this because I have had my k10d for over 2 years now and my recent images don't appear to be as clean as images taken when I first got the camera.

I recently purchased a 77ltd and have found that when using the green button the images tend to be underexposed. Is this normal for this lens.

Any comments would be much appreciated

I think this SMCA 85/1.4 at the link below is the A* . List price converts to about $120,000. The used stuff from this store tend to be more expensive than the other link I posted for mapcamera. I have bought 2 used lenses from mapcamera and have had no problems. 77ltd $550 with 1 year makers guarantee and 35-105 zoom $90 in excellent condition. Living so close to this store is not good for LBA!

Recently bought an fa 77 ltd and it would be much appreciated if someone could give me their opinion on these examples of bokeh. Please tell me if I am imagining it but is there a spot in the middle of the shapes in the bokeh and if it is normal.

Images about 100% crops all taken at f1.8

A tiny dust in a new lens?

Pentax would not remove the dust under the guarantee unless it was a weather sealed lens and the da15ltd isn't. I could open the blades and with a vacuum cleaner suck the dust out:D:rolleyes:

I recently bought new the da15ltd and after 2 weeks of use I found 2 large specs of dust easily visible against the shutter when looking through the front element. Unfortunately I didn't thoroughly inspect it before using it so I can't say when the dust moved in. Still it is annoying even though I know it doesn't affect image quality. It's the affect on the resale value thats the problem. Especially annoying when the last three 25 year old lenses I recently purchased are comparatively dust free. Perhaps I am just not careful enough. How did the previous owners of these old lenses do it. Never use them? Plastic bag with a hole?

"They do pop up often enough (esp. 77ltd), though the price varies.
No worries since you are in Pentax HOLY LAND (ie. Japan)"

Your right I checked the websites of the used camera shops and found 3 77 ltds all different prices and condition but quite a bit more than $500 dollars. I might check them out anyway.

The only weak spot (or two) is:
"glow" wide open at certain scenarios. What do you mean by 'glow' ? I don't think I have ever heard of this lens problem.

Great images. Unfortunately I won't be joining the 85mm f2 club any time soon either. On closer inspection the 85mm has cleaning marks on the front element. Scratches. Maybe I'll get the smc A*85mm f1.4 which is at the bargain price of.... wait for it....... $1100 unbelievable and not even in good condition.
