my camera is a Kx....I live in the boonies....locally would be a couple of hours away, and seems that most shops are selling Nikon, Canon, & Sony.....I like dealing with B&H....I bought my Kx from them along with a few other things....seem like a pretty good company to me!

I am leaning towards the sigma....it seems from the reviews that I have read, most are very happy with this lens and it has a great warranty in comparison!

I'm looking to purchase just one lens right now....I find that I use my 18-55 kit lens the most, but I'm not happy with the quality. Here's what I'm looking at:
  • Pentax Zoom Super Wide-Telephoto SMCP-DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 ED AL (IF) SDM

  • Sigma 17-50 f2.8 EX DC OS HSM

What is the difference between the two? What would make one better than the other? Does the Pentax one allow you to use the 2.8 throughout the zoom? I could not find that in the description on B&H.......thanks ahead of time for your input!

good morning....the word "keen" on doing weddings would prob not be very accurate! I'm doing my first wedding in April...I'm fairly nervous about it, but that said, I met w/the bride to be and she likes my portrait style and was quite insistent that I'm the one for the job....I so much prefer doing portraiture. cuz she's so into "different," I think I will have fun with this one, but I still wanna be a prepared as possible. the wedding will be outside and she said most of the guests will prob be in jeans and t-shirts altho the wedding party will be dressed up. will I be taking on more weddings??? hmmmm.....I guess we'll see....it really wasn't in my plan!

I guess what I was hoping for.....was that there was a couple of particular lenses that everyone agreed on having.....I think my kit lenses are ok, but I would really like to have that wow factor....ya know, super sharp, excellent bokeh, etc.....I do have some great manual lenses, but for functions, I really wanted something fast and auto......

I have the Kx and the kit lenses....18-55 AL and the DA L 55-300 ED. He would like to buy me a really great lens...nice! But, that said, I have done tons of research and I really have no clue what to get. I'm thinking it should be a zoom...and I know I want at least a 2.8 or something along those lines. So, you have Pentax brand, Sigma, Tamron......so I thought I would post this and see what y'all recommend....this will prob be my last lens for a long time, so I wanna make it a great one! Thanks everyone ahead of time for your input!

I just thought I'd ask this......I was reading an article on the manual lenses...I have bought 3 of them off ebay...100mm, 50mm, and a 135mm....I found out that in order to make them work properly, after deciding on my aperture, I then needed to slightly press the shutter, then press the green button, and then make the shot for the camera to get accurate exposure. I'm a newbie, so is this the correct way you guys are doing this? or is there an alternative method? thanks for your help!

Hi.....looking at your fireworks pics....do you know the settings? I'm photographing a wedding in April and they are gonna have fireworks. I have not photographed fireworks since my old film camera some 30 yrs ago....I have a Kx with the kit lenses 18-55 AL and the 55-300 ED...any help would be greatly appreciated! I think it would be cool to be able to get some of the people watching the fireworks along with the display....do you use the bulb setting? or do you have a different method? thanks ahead of time for your input!

Hi, I'm interested in your camera....is this a manual lens you have on it or auto? What can you tell me about the lens? Also, you mentioned the focus ring is a little stiff, what exactly does that mean? thanks for your info! Trish

I just got thru reading: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-camera-field-accessories/58767-fir....html....super informative, but still would like opinions on my own situation. I shot a wedding around 30yrs ago for a friend....didn't get paid, it was a favor/wedding gift type thing. Of course....not digital back in the day! It was one of the worst experiences I ever had. A friend of mine came with me cuz he was also a photographer. I was concerned about being in charge and telling people what to do etc. Anyway.....the reason why it was so awful an experience was due to the tension between the families....nasty nasty people! It's been so long, I don't even remember if the pics were good!

I was asked to do this wedding cuz the btb saw pics I had taken of family and she loved my style....she wanted different and not the average type pics. I have been out of photography for such a long time(just became your average pic taker), but have been working my way back into this cuz I love it! I was really leaning towards just portraiture and had used the old saying...I'll NEVER do weddings....so of course, what is my first paying job...a wedding!! Just remember to NEVER say NEVER!!! LOL!

I'm doing my first wedding in April. What lenses do most of you use? I have bought some old manual lenses that are wonderful....but, I'm a little concerned about being quick....not the lenses...me! I have a manual 50mm 1.7, manual 100mm 2.8, and then the 2 lenses that came with my camera....I bought the K-x with the lens kit(18-55 and 55-300). This will be an outdoor wedding, but starting at 4pm, so I know I will need to use my flash eventually....I believe the reception will also be outdoors....I know I have some practicing to do with this flash unit. It's a Bower for the Pentax....any issues with that using manual lenses?

Thanks ahead of time for any info! The bride knows I'm just starting out and she needs a money break(hence me) but I want to hopefully wow her!

Trish
