That looks like a brilliant collection! :D

I have a very dangerous question.. What is the 35/1.2 called? Where can I get it and is it affordable?
I haven't got a dreamy lens in that length and have been itching to get my hands on one for a while!

Edit: I suppose it's the kp16 and won't do FF?

Digitising Photos, Negatives and Processing

Hey everyone!

Haven't been around for a while and it's nice to look in here again!
I just finished school and grabbed myself a "little" summer project..

We've got many old negatives and glass plates in our family and I'd like to digitise those, as well as my own negatives this summer.
I've got my K-1 and a super macro tak and thought of finally making use of the pixel shift function.
However, what is the best way to process the images? It'll mainly be inverting the colours, though I do have the odd colour film but it'd help if the software would be reasonably fast with that.
Usually I use capture one (10), but, as far as I'm aware, that ignores three of the 4 shifted images.

Also, I'm not sure if it's worth using pixel shift?
The glass plates are 9x12cm, my own negatives that I'd like to digitize are 135 and 120 films.

Would I be best advised to use the software that shipped with the camera, export them all as a PNG and take them into capture one?

Cheers,
Topsy

I'm thinking about buying a collection of Tak's - opinions welcome.

I was going to say that they seem expensive, but seeing the ebay prices in the 28/3.5 that I've seems like a good deal! (Did these go up in price?!)
I absolutely love mine, it's small, sharp* and renders colours nicely. I've never had the feeling that I need any other 28mm.

*I've accidentally hit the auto switch a few times, so didn't stop down. But there's barely a difference between f3.5 and f8 in the endresult! :)

I have two look at my lenses as belonging to two categories: creative and exact.

The creative ones cannot be replaced by a modern lens due to their rendering quirks/personality.

My Takumars go into the "exact" category for me (28/3.5, 35/2.5, 150/4, 200/4).
I believe my usage of them could be replaced by a modern lenses, but I wouldn't because these beat modern ones on price and I enjoy manual lenses more. But personally, purely from an image quality perspective, I'm pretty sure I could replace them with something modern.

Very inspiring, thanks. It's a kind of photography that I hadn't thought about yet.
I checked your setup out too, very cool results!

It got me thinking last night and I realised that the image circle of the lenses of my old Leitz microscope cover 35mm easily. It was snowing wonderful earlier, but as soon as I had finished mounting the lens to some bellows it started raining. Typical. Next time :D

Forgot to mention them.
I too use the PeakDesign anchor links, the nice thing is that you can buy them separate too and use them on home made straps. Couldn't be happier with them.

The harness looks okay, though I'm not a fan of plastic carabinier hooks.

Would definitely not trust those little loops though, their recommended load capacity is way too low for a camera in my opinion. I think your setup is close to the limit already.

I fear it may only work one way around, it's probably easier to feel old than young, but then again, nothing is stopping you from thinking like a youngster! :D

Just switching the numbers around might not be helpful depending on your age though.:(

Happy New Year from me too!

I found "Lang may yer lum reek" way less confusing than "HNY" as I didn't try to interpret anything into the former, but the latter left me wondering why everyone is calling others "honey".. I forget it every year!

I don't have any experience with that one, but a quick google tells me that it doesn't cover medium format and that the flange focal distance the lens has would mean that it'd have to be mounted inside the camera, so no, I guess you won't be able to use one on your 645Z :(

Worth owning these Russian lenses?

I wouldn't even try to find any without cleaning marks (on the front element, I wouldn't want them on the rear element). I got lucky on some lenses that barely have any, but my general rule is: Clean optics, no scratches, used looking body. If there's no signs of usage I'd start to wonder why it's spent most of it's life on a shelf.
I'd rather have a used and loved and decently looked after lens than a neglected one. :)

I've had some good results with my K-1 + astrotracer earlier this year after following the extensive guide by Roger N. Clark. It's a bit a difficult read (physics heavy) but definitely worth it.

Am I missing something? I haven't modified any of my m39 lenses irreversably regarding focus.
In fact, only my Jupiter 9 needed a bit a thinner shim, the others all are okay. What is the irreversible mod?

I'm not sure if the 77m creates better swirl, but I assume that if it swilrs better it's probably not "worth" the higher price.

Another 50/1.8 that is swirly would be the Cosinon 50/1.8. It's even cheaper than the helios, I think you get the most swirl for your money with that one. :)

Lens Adapters

The SA mount/lenses have a shorter registration distance than the K mount and thus can't be adapted. You wouldn't be able to reach infinity.

Though apparently the SA mount sort of fits loosely in the K bayonet.
I'm not sure if these lenses have any electronics, if not you maybe could mess around with the mount, shim it to fit snuggly or even replace the mount, but it's probably not worth it.

It's more likely that you'll see me in the K-1 photo thread I think. I received 13 lenses in the post today that I'll need to give a go.. I'm only letting myself keep two. Or three. I hope. :D

Well... This went way worse than I'd ever had anticipated. Left my camera at my great-aunts one day, next day was too wet to retrieve it - okay, it would have been possible if I'd actually have thought about it beforehand - and then I kinda forgot. :|

Thanks! Glad to hear that :)

Just wanted to make sure before I drop the camera off by my friend. Was a bit uncertain since my K-50 and K-1 don't do anything like it.
