Portability vs Power (Battery Powered Strobe)

I bought my studio ligting a couple of years ago now and went through exactly the same dilema. In the end I plumped to buy Bowens stobes second hand on Ebay. Rather than something that just adopted their mount.. (Bowens Gemini.) Hundred's of good offers. So much so I ended up with 6.. A mixture of Gemini 500r and 400r models with Pulsar triggers.

On the plus side... I have a multitude of diffuser's to choose from...?
Never want for power...
Have very strong modelling light's
never wait on recycling times...!

On the downside...
Not as easy to use outside as the battery lights... To weighty for carrying...
Leaving trailing cables.. And when you kick a lamp over on a stand it breaks...

I would certainly consider the new Bowens strobes now they are manufacturing again...!

I Love these light's and have never been let down by them. If I used them more would certainly

PS photoptimist that's rubbish.!! What when you want to change the direction of the natural light...?

TTL is surely the only option here. If I'm understanstanding the situation correctly. As the light will constantly change throughout the day.
I dont see why the unit has to be mounted off camera and use a trigger ? That will just complicate things. So a Shanny SN600FGZ mounted on camera makes perfect sense, to me. In a situation were no hands are available. The bigger issue is how will you fire the set up. I guess you could set the timer ?

Thanks for the comment.. The lens situation has now been put on the back burner. With the announcement of a new DFA 85 1.4 Later this year.. So depending on cost. weight and size. That will probably be my choice. As Ive been very impressed with the DFA lenses Ive bought so far.. Though Im getting a little distracted in the pursuit recently by the 77mm ltd.. Seeing some outstanding images produced with it.. Though in purchasing this lens it would go against the arguement I have always supported. That legacy glass isnt coated correctly for the digital age and isnt WR. Which is a big promotional selling point to the K1..

Im trying to fire the shutter remotely using the Yongnuo RF602 or RF603 trigger.. No flash involved Dave...!!

Sounds good taktoon. I have the 560tx unit. Not quite sure what you mean but will have to give that a try out...

---------- Post added 10-02-19 at 02:34 PM ----------

Thanks all. and Sluggo for the pic. Really helped. Sorted the shutter firing problem out.. I was being a bit stupid and using the x-sync socket as I was earlier watching a youtube vid and thats what they used on a Nikon camera.

But now I have a different problem and by connecting the trigger lead to the remote socket. It kills the rear display. So no menu display, live view or pic of image taken. until I take the Jack lead out... Any ideas on this...?

Has anyone used any of the Yongnuo rf triggers to remotely fire the shutter on a Pentax camera ? I'm trying to connect them to my K1 to fire the shutter but without success. Trigger is firing reciever is recieving the signal. Connected the reciever to the X-sync socket on the K1 But the shutter isnt firing.. Also tried setting the remote setting on shutter menu. No success. So is it possible ? What am I doing wrong ?

af-360fgz for off-camera with K-1?

If its indoor... Forget speedlights altogether. Get on Ebay and get yourself a second hand 400 or 500W strobe.. And manual trigger. Not only can you plug it in an forget it. Fire it as quickly and as often as you like. But will have the invaluable modelling bulb. This is invaluable for seeking out where the shadows or highlights are when setting up your subject.

I also love off camera flash. Totally agree with Inkista's comments. No need to throw immense amounts of money at it at first.. !! As Class A say's. A $5 trigger and receiver will work. You will just be required to do a little more walking.
Firstly you need to sit down and before picking equipment. Pick your prefered subject matter.. As this will determine the majority of your choices. As you can see here. Most of the guys plumped for more than a single speedlight. So expense has to be kept under control. But things can be added to along the way.. Right now I think it would be foolish not to look at Godox. But it's by no means the only answer. Never had an ultimate use for HSS or TTL yet. So don't pay for things you may or may not use.. ? Depends how much you want to spend ?

If you want to stay Manual the Yongnuo YN560 IV & Tx560 trigger is superb.

And then there's modifiers.......? To start out the fold up ones from Amazon are very good..

Yes I have.. And like you seem to be. Have also been suitably impressed. Its just its price that makes me shy away.. Maybe I just think I would use an 85 mm more and await that... I never said the 50mm is a poor lens. Just in my opinion expensive...!!

I have no data also. But other members of this thread keep posting that the Pentax market share as a whole is 2%. I'm not about to call them misinformed. But as this would be all Pentax product. It could easily be assumed the K1 or K1 II hasnt sold in big numbers.

Has it been announced that Pixel shift can be used hand held yet...? I thought that to be a translation issue. By the way I love the K1. I own two. Just want to see a fair and balanced discussion.. Though I didnt upgrade either of them..

Not sure that quite so true...
RICOH IMAGING EUROPE S.A.S. is pleased to announce the launch of an upgrade service that allows existing PENTAX K-1 users to add the advanced functions of the new PENTAX K-1 Mark II to their camera.

They did discontinue the K1. It just hung around so long because they couldn't sell the pre manufactured stock so quickly. They hoped it would attract owners from other brands in large numbers. But the truth is it didn't...!!
