I agree that this is good exposure for Pentax. I haven't seen them paint a Pentax camera (yet) but remember these are the guys that covered a K-R in grass and moss.

BREAKING NEWS: Flickr Just Gave Everyone One Free Terabyte of Space!

This is what Thomas Hawk said about the Pro accounts on his blog:

"While this might sound really great for today’s free account users, it should be noted that the new free 1 TB account will contain advertising. If you want to opt out of advertising on your free account, you will need to pay $49 per year….

you are already an existing Pro account member. While Flickr will no longer offer new Pro accounts, existing Pros will be allowed to keep their Pro account and continue paying $24.95/year for full unlimited high res ad free storage (still the best deal in my opinion)."

Thomas Hawk Digital Connection

Sounds like if you have a current Pro account you are better off keeping that.

Thanks for this link, I got my bag on Friday. I ordered one because you couldn't beat the price, but turns out it is the perfect size for my K-30 with mid size zoom and the lens hood in place. I have been looking for something to protect my camera when we are out and about on vacation and this looks like it will work great.

I thought about The Holi Festival when I first saw these posts about the color run foolishness.

Check out this post from the Boston Globe's Big Picture blog showing Holi Celebrations 2013

I would be willing to sacrifice some gear if I could get the chance to make photos like these.

According to the Color Run website, the "colors" are "basically food grade cornstarch and are 100% natural and SAFE."

That's fine if you are consuming it as a food but most things I eat I wouldn't want to breath into my lungs. Also I get worried when people use the word "basically" when trying to justify something. Their whole FAQ tries to be so cute it's beyond annoying.

You might also consider attending an air show in your area, this might give you a larger cross section of different planes and the people that fly them.

Whatever way you go, think about posting your project to the forum.

In his latest podcast, Derrick Story is asking "are off brands risky?" and by off brands he means cameras made by companies other than Canon and Nikon. He is getting ready to go on a backpacking trip to test a new LowePro bag and his camera of choice is a K-5, he talks about the outstanding image quality and the fact it is WR.

Great shots, well done. I don't think the branches in the foreground are as distracting as you think. It gives it an interesting sense of place and you know it's a "real" nature shot, if that makes sense. Outstanding work with the 500mm and manual focus!

Mad Men and Pentax (What Could Have Been)

Anyone watch the premier of Mad Men last night? A neighbor asked Don Draper which camera they were doing a campaign for, "Pentax"? Sadly Don answered no, "Leica". I really wish it was Pentax, that would have been so cool to see them working on a Pentax campaign this season.

Found this blog entry this morning, little more about Mad Men and film cameras:

Agreed, HDMI is the way to go if at all possible, I would look at the Roku 3, it is brand new and is getting a lot of good reviews. If you already have something in the HDMI port, you can always get a switch that will allow you to choose which device you want to use. My suggestion would be a Roku 3 or WD TV Media Player. Both of these accept USB and with the Roku you can network to other devices through Wi-FI and stream from there. The problem is most of these output to a HDMI cable so you might need some kind of converter to use the composite connection. The WD player does have an optical output so that might work for you. A DIY Project That Most Pentaxians DON'T Need

Thought this was amusing, it's a DIY project to build rain guard out of an old CD spindle cover. One of the first comments was "Or you just get one of the weather proofed Pentax DSLR bodies". Nice to see someone beat me to it.

I saw a story about the Amazon lens finder on PetaPixel and they mention Pentax and some other brands not being included:

From PetaPixel:
"At this point, Pentax, Samsung, Sigma and Leica remain conspicuously absent from the camera brand list..."

Amazon Courts Photographers by Adding Lens Finder Tool

What I like is it looks iike you can have Amazon remember your camera model, making it easier to find lenses and accessories, but this is worthless if they don't list Pentax as an option. Hopefully they will add it.

has anyone watched DigitalRevCom's youtube channel?

I watch DigitalRev more for entertainment than anything else. They have really gone over the top lately and are becoming hard to watch. I do think the cheap camera challenges are very interesting. The latest one with Vincent Laforet was really good, He had some interesting things to say, when Kai would shut up..

For a good camera review watch the videos put out by The Camera Store TV. These are much more informative and they seem to like Pentax.

If you haven't' seen it, check out this episode where Chris, from TCSTV does his impression of Kai, while reviewing the Fuji X10.

I am a big fan of the Tamron 18-200, it is a great walk around lens, but that price seems high. Looks like you can get the same lens new from Amazon UK for £150,

I use Google Reader to view posts on Pentax Forums as well as about 25 photography sites and another 25 or so tech/news blogs. Google announced yesterday that they were shutting down the site, probably hoping people will move to Google+. They have already migrated my PicasaWeb photos to Google+,

I would be interested in hearing what RSS readers others might be using.

Thanks for posting this, it is my understanding that while you can be asked/told to stop taking pictures, in most cases you can not be told to delete what you have taken. This is a great idea about pulling the memory card and recovering them later.

Agreed, I decrease the upper limit of the ISO to 800, have the camera on M mode, set the shutter speed to 1/160 and pick an aperture and let the flash do the rest. In P-TTL mode, the flash should adjust itself.
