Thanks for the info, good to hear that it is being dealt with.

Whether it was faulty A-A filters received from a third party manufacturer, as mentioned somewhere; or another place along the line, main thing is that is being taken care of.

I guess it comes down to a choice. The Leica M8.2 should be an example of a camera that is though roughly checked before leaving the factory. But then we’re talking 3-4.000 $ camera. Don’t think many Pentaxians would go for that set-up instead. Then people would likely prefer to have a camera sent back under warranty.

The top Pros from Canon, who had to send back their EOS-1Ds Mark III cameras, due to serious autofocus problems, were in dire trouble having bought the camera to rely on for critical high end work. For most of us, it is an inconvenience, but a minor one at that.

If the worst thing that is gonna happen to you, is a camera that sometimes will have troublesome images, then by most accounts you're pretty well set up.

Real photos (not test shots) showing the "string of pearls" stains?

Hi Falk,
I’m just citing what Thommo stated, in the link from earlier in the thread :
Flickr: Discussing K5 problem in Pentaxians

“It looks like all they need is a new A-A filter, so a repair would not be hard. It's just a bit of glass.”

“He said it appears likely Pentax received faulty A-A filters from a third party manufacturer.”

Maybe for a big corporation it is possible to get the prices down, compared to what we as private persons would have to pay to be without the AA filter.

I believe the Leica M8.2 is an example of a camera that is though roughly checked before leaving the factory. But then we’re talking 3-4.000 $ camera. Don’t think many Pentaxians would go for that set-up instead. Then people would likely prefer to have a camera sent back under warranty.

Seems Thommo is taking it in stride :
“I'm not losing sleep over this - but it looks like I'll be back to the DS for a while - and that's not necessarily a bad thing!”

Those Aussies got a relaxed attitude at dealing with issues.

Always good getting things in perspective. I remember controversy over the K10 too, and it has ended up serving me very well. Seems I shouldn’t be overly concerned getting the K5.

Thommo is a fine chap. From what he reports, the solution is a new A-A filter, so the repair shouldn't be too hard. And that Pentax received faulty A-A filters from a third party manufacturer.

Leica handinspects, under close scrutiny, many products that leaves the factory. But guess few of us would be willing to shell out the extra for it.

Great work, this sounds very promising :

"in continuous mode; the K-5 can take about 34 JPEGs and 26 RAWs (after the v1.01 firmware update)."

Though I never really saw the rumor as anything other than the usual internet thing, where small discussions suddenly gets blown out of proportion

I can easily understand, how just as for crop DSLR users FF can be attractive. Then for FF professionals, the lure of medium format would likewise be appealing.

They really seem to have hit the mark with the 645D

Thanks for the link, a good read.

He seems to know what he is talking about. I also like this comment :
"The performance is really exceptionally good. I would shoot a double-truck spread at ISO 1600 without hesitation, provided I was able to get a solid exposure (i.e. the majority of the detail falling at or above the mid-line of the histogram)"

Due noted as well :
"Often, the best light is right before, or right after, a storm blows through"

Good to hear. They were probably a bit too fast coming out with the Eos 60D review. I read a poster at Dpr complaining that the D7000 crop from Raw looked awful in the color. When he downloaded the original, there wasn't really a problem. It was merely a poor conversion to JPEG that they had done.
So it is the same; they're great at specs. Sometimes not so good photographers at Dpr

They do some fine work, but as always one should consider how results apply to own preferences. And doesn't harm to have a critical eye with you, as to how they implement the findings.

Thanks for pointing it out. When it came to lens evaluation, I never gave much attention to Dpr.

imaging-resource.com and Photozone is better here.

I guess they had their hands full, trying to sell the Eos 60D :)

The Canon 50/1.4 was never held particularly high, compared to the Pentax.

With Dpr I always merely took offset in a camera review, and then looked into user feedback, to see how things actually worked out.
Nothing new that Dpr twists their view-angle to fit with aim. Though this time around they really appear to have stretched it.

addition :

Dpr has already made the first correction. The Iso was set wrong :
"On the Studio scene comparison (RAW) page, if you set the ISO to 6400 for all images you will note that the D7000 image looks significantly worse than the 60D and K-5 and just about comparable to the 50d. So, I took the liberty of downloading the RAW file labeled: "nikond7000_ISO 6400.NEF". When I open that .NEF file in CNX2 the ISO Sensitivity says: "1 EV over 6400". So it appears that, at least the ISO 6400 image, for the D7000 is actually ISO 12800"http://forums.*************/forums/read.asp?forum=1000&message=36894458
