Item for Sale
Pentax DA 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 ED SDM Lens

Asking Price
200.00 USD

Item Location
Alexandria (United States)

Item Description
For sale is my Pentax DA 18-270mm super zoom lens in excellent condition. I have only used this lens for about 18 months but it's been a really convenient all-in-one travel lens for me. Not needing to change lenses while sightseeing is really a joy. Silent focusing, incredible 15X zoom capability (Pentax's largest range in a zoom lens), and produces nice colors. Includes the original front and back lens caps and lens hood. Reason for selling: trying to raise money to buy a new laptop. Also, I have too many lenses and need to consolidate my K-mount collection.

Here are pictures of the lens and images I've taken with it.

Item for Sale
Sigma 10-20mm F/4-5.6 EX DC K Mount Autofocus Lens

Asking Price
150.00 USD

Item Location
Alexandria (United States)

Item Description
For sale is my workhorse wide angle zoom, the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6, which is in good condition. Check out the great user reviews: Sigma EX DC J 10-20mm F4-5.6 Lens Reviews - Sigma Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database My lens comes with the original front and back caps and lens hood. I also think I have the case somewhere and will include if I can find it. I purchased it from KEH Camera in 2018 and have enjoyed the amazingly wide perspective at 10mm, and the sharpness of this lens even wide open. There is some cosmetic wear on the focusing ring that obviously does not affect any lens performance. Reason for selling: want to raise some cash to buy a new laptop. Here are pictures of the lens along with some images that I have taken with it.

Thank for the updates, I haven't been closely following the developments there. So very sad. On an unrelated note, I'm off in a few weeks to visit the Rocky Mountain National Park. I assume you've been there before, Allen? I'm trying to travel fairly light this time, so taking my KP, DA 18-270mm, DA 15mm, and FA 43mm. Maybe also my little 18-50mm RE WR in case there's inclement weather.

I also loved this lens and only let it go when I got the FA 31. Produces a beautiful "3-D" effect. Outstanding in low light.

Thanks -- lens is already back to seller and I got my refund. Have always had my eye on the DA 12-24mm and maybe I might try to get it someday -- I do enjoy the 10-11mm wide angle range though.

I totally agree. I was eyeing a DA 12-24mm for a while and I think it is sold but the thread has not been marked "sold" so it still appears in the active sale listing. A bit frustrating. Though my wallet/wife probably are very happy these are no longer for sale.

Thanks! That is a helpful anecdote, and confirms my suspicion that this glitch probably doesn't happen with native Pentax lenses. (I remember having a weird aperture problem when using the Sigma 24mm f/2.8 super-wide II with my K-01, that didn't happen on my other K-mount bodies at the time).

Anyway, I could keep the Tamron and just use it with my K-5 IIS and K-01 but as I said above, I don't think it's as good a lens as my Sigma 10-20mm, so I'm sending it back. (And if I really loved the lens, I guess I could do what you did and send it back to Tamron with my KP for calibration)

Looks like the lens is sold, even though it's not marked as sold. I saw feedback posted for the seller on July 15 that links to this post. I was seriously thinking of buying this too!

Strongly agree. I love this FOV on APS-C and imagine it's a wonderful fast wide on full frame too. I just got a FA*24 a few months ago and it's stunning.

Apologies as I'm not sure if I should post this question/problem in the SLR lens discussion forum or in the KP-specific forum. So in a fit of LBA and nostalgia, I saw a good deal on a factory refurbished Tamron 10-24mm that I jumped on. I owned this lens a few years ago and generally enjoyed using it, but sold it when I needed to raise some funds. Later on, I got a Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 that seems to offer better sharpness and more solid build quality than the Tamron. But there are times when I missed the slight extra reach to 24mm while using the wide angle zoom, so I thought I could get another Tamron 10-24mm to see if that copy's sharpness was better (and I could directly compare it with my Sigma 10-20 and keep the one that was best).

Here's where things get weird -- when mounted on my KP, the refurbished Tamron 10-24mm exhibits weird behavior -- set to 10-11mm, using Auto or Program mode, the shutter speed defaults to 1500 or 1000 (testing it indoors). As soon as I zoomed in to 12mm or farther, the shutter speed drops down to 45 or 30, etc.

I tried the lens on my Pentax K-5IIS and K-01 bodies and this doesn't happen. And my Sigma 10-20mm set to 10-11mm doesn't reproduce this problem on my KP under the same conditions above (using Auto or P mode).

What's going on here? Seems to be some weird glitch/electronic communication problem between my specific KP body and this Tamron 10-24mm lens. I even updated the firmware of my KP from 1.10 to 1.31 (been needing to that for a while anyway), but the problem still happens.

Anyway, I'm sending the Tamron 10-24 back to the seller for a free refund and free return shipping too. For the record, in my quick tests using simple snap shots around my house, the Tamron was no sharper than my previous copy at its widest apertures -- that is, needed to stop down to f/8 or so to improve the sharpness, which I think is common for this lens. And I think the Tamron is a lot more plasticky build than I remember, worse than my Sigma 10-20mm and Tamron 17-50mm. Finally the AF sounds louder and is slower than my Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6. So, even though the Sigma has a shorter zoom range and lacks the extra reach to 24mm that I had wanted, I'm keeping my Sigma!

Any thoughts on what happened? Does this occur with other lenses -- is it a third party lens issue? I don't think I've encountered this before using any of my lenses, native or third party.

Thanks!!

I just got a K-5 IIS last year and fell in love immediately with how well it handles, feels awesome in the hand, and takes stunning photos. Good luck with the sale -- this really is a great camera that still works very well in 2022! I alternate between using it and my KP, and although the KP has faster AF and more modern tech, the K-5 IIS is so much fun to use that I sometimes reach for it first.

wow. thanks for the news. How terrible for the townspeople. It was a nice little town and we ate dinner there twice, including at the Wonderland Cafe. Terrific place with good food and excellent service. Tourism is the only lifeline for these small towns in the area. I can't imagine what will happen to them now.
