Yeah, I'm still here, and a Pentaxian, but hard to take my Pentaxes out with so much Sony gear these days. I think some of my larger legacy glass will find its way onto the marketplace soon...as much as that pains me. Maybe its time to let go of some stuff.

This should be fun. I am getting this adapter and the new A7RV on about the same day. I will try this adapter with the Sigma 300mm F2.8. Hows that for a weird combination!?!

The DJI P3...still a great drone!
I would go to the DroneZone, - FAADroneZone and update all the firmware for the drone from the DJI website and update all the DJI apps.

I still have two P3Ps...they never fly anymore since the P4P and Mavic Air I use.

Enjoy the drone!

Any drone with a 1" sensor is perfect for anything on the web.

Professional media work *requires* some drone capability in some form.
As a pro-pilot as part of my overall media responsibilities, I still get around to doing personal projects.

So go out and fly your drone! Responsibly and with permission(s) of course!

A little personal project I am working with the State of California on.

The media landscape (pardon the pun) is both stills and video. As a Multimedia Architect, I do mostly cinema/video. However, by default, I am expected to be an accomplished photographer. It goes with the territory.

Will all my cameras/drones...the one niche that Pentax fills is a camera that is tough enough to survive out in the field. That is, if a little rain or the elements are part of the shoot. None of my Sony cameras (A7S/FS7/FS5) can handle anything remotely inclement weather. My action cameras are, well, action cameras. My drone cameras, are drone cameras.

With the Pentax cameras I have, they represent "field cameras" because they can go anywhere and do pretty much anything.

With my 645z/K1 I had excellent image quality in my field cameras - yet not acceptable video. The K3 III as an APS-C (super 35mm film) allows me to round out location/field shooting when I am mostly there to take stills.

Without video, I was crippled in not taking a Pentax with me.

Now, FINALLY...I can take one camera if most of the work that day is stills.

Yep. Finally a Pentax dSLR that does at least 1080p/60 and 4K/30...it would have been nice for 4K/60 but that is a dream. A little expensive, sure, but a great field/media camera to use with native Pentax glass. I will be picking one up when they are available.

I so miss having a decent field dSLR...I have been waiting...years.

I got one too.
I wish it came with lens covers and some kind of case.
Also, it would have been good for the cell-phone holder to also have a 1/4-20" thread somewhere.

Waiting on the new K3 III and I stumbled on this little guy.
Its on Amazon, and can be found in the search on the Pentax site, but its not shown anywhere (that I can find) as part of the Pentax current product line.

I've always tried to collect the little Pentax scopes that come out, and this guy got under my radar...until now.

Part of today's setup.
These images will wind their way to the photoshop folks, where they will take them and put them into product catalogues, marketing materials, etc.

Its so funny how "production" photography is often brutish, efficient and part of a larger workflow.
The K3's really did their job today.
I had 5 cameras for this shoot, and about 4 setups through the day.
I'd show more, but they are all pre-production machines taken from our labs.

These boxes that I shot today...will generate billions in the coming years.
For our customers and ourselves.

I will never leave...once a Pentaxian, always one.

Yeah...good to be away from the A7S,A6500, FS5, FS7 and other alphabets for a week or so...then back to the grind.

Yep.

The machines I have to photograph will be taken apart and laid on a table. To get all the views for the technical publications and marketing folks its easier to put the devices on a "lazy susan" and have identical lenses and cameras and settings so that the workflow can move quickly. This way the setup is static and only the hardware that is to be photographed moves.

I can also assure consistent images by keeping the cameras in one location.

Hi everyone. Its been a LONG time since I posted. Its been busy. Life has been mostly cinematography, drones and Sony/DJI/Action camera. There's been a smattering of 645z in there, but not much pure "photography" since I just don't have the time.

Well...as a cinematographer, its assumed that I also do "photography" and I've been tasked with shooting some new product hardware that is coming down the line.

If you know what "Exadata" is, well, then in the next couple of months every image you will see of the new stuff will probably be the result of this photoshoot this week!

So in preparation, batteries are charged, firmware has been updated, settings re-familiarized with and what not.

Handling the cameras again, waves of nostalgia rolled over me, and putting a dSLR back up to my face, and taking pictures with a mirror-based camera again...well...I think the Pentax engineers are 100% right about staying with this.

I'm a Pentaxian for sure, but its been WAY too long that I have not held some of my other "still" cameras and stepped away from making cinema or video.

Wow. Just wanted to share a bit. Now I can't wait to buy the new Pentax when it comes out!

With product photography, many cameras will be setup so that I don't have to move the product much after its in position. So all K3 cameras on deck!

Does anyone shoot video with their Pentax?

I'm still here. Its been a long time since I used a Pentax camera body for video, but I still use Pentax DA lenses and other Pentax glass with Novoflex adapters on Sony cameras. The absolute minimum video standard these days is 1080p/60 with 50mbps...which does not exist in any current Pentax body.

However, I still shoot stills with Pentax bodies, and my 645z goes everywhere with me.

If by some miracle the next APS-C Pentax body does good video, I will in a heartbeat, bring Pentax back into my professional workflow.

Heck, these days, I am comfortable just having Pentax as my "feel-good" camera without worry about whether or not it fits into my professional workflow.

With so many video projects that I do...I still need the comfort of a Pentax regardless.

Recommended audio editing software for videos

In a timeline, "audio tracks" can be spoken words, sound effects, music or what not. You might have to take out noise, enhance something, or stretch something to replace something somewhere. Because of the integration with Adobe Premiere, Adobe Audition is the go-to utility when you are working an Adobe timeline. Nothing else allows easy re-importing, as well as working with your final encoding/rendering. Premiere has some really amazingly good audio features too, so only when you really need to work something, its great to have audition there.

Have you experienced pressure to switch systems?

First...I have to laugh. With a Novoflex adaper, he could continue to use his Pentax glass on Sony mirror less...especially for video, like I do. APS-C is just about Super 35mm - which is what my Sony FS5 and FS7 are. Pentax DA glass is PERFECT because of the nature of the step-less aperture for video. Second, there is no better field camera out there than Pentax. Nothing comes close. Third, peer pressure? To switch tools? If a tool works, use it. Who cares what others think. Peer pressure is something made up. Be strong, don't succumb.

Dunno what I am going to do.
Stay safe!

Thanks for the shout out!
I re-read what I wrote back in 2018, and I still stand by that.

If an APS-C Pentax comes soon, and it can at least do 1080p/60 or better, Pentax will once again make an appearance in my video workflow. You just can't beat the weather-sealed field camera of a Pentax.

In the stills department, I am often asked to do photography as a cinematographer, and I use the 645z which is sublime.

So Pentax *is* part of my daily (professional) workflow in some capacity.

side note: when on assignment in Japan, I always make a point of buying some kind of Pentax gear when I am there.

GoDox XPro and AD200pros and you will never look back. I use the AD200Pros with my Sony or Pentax and all I need is to use the brand specific transmitter. Trust me...you will never look back.

Pentax - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1432377-REG/godox_xprop_ttl_wireless_flash_trigger.html
Sony - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1383690-REG/godox_xpros_xpro_s_ttl_wireless_flash.html

Also, if you do have a brand specific flash - I have two Sony Godox VING V860IIS - and I can use them with the Pentax triggers.
Really amazing system GoDox has.

Using the GoDox system, you can adjust the power and groups without running all over the place. Its amazing.
