I did catch bugs from my daughter and being busy with project with sore throath and tiereness. Luckily bugs seems to have gotten weaker so I'm kind of 'back'. Tried to catch up. goign to be busy days this week, so some lagging will take place. But then it will ease up on me for a while...

Mechanical vs electronic shutter

I have Canon R5C and while it should be one of most performing with stacked sensor and all that, this is the case with LED lights. Most, if not all of cheap ones used in most public places does introduce flicker. So much for shooting in silent places with completelly silent mode. Yes mechanical shutter is silent, but not that silent in R5C, but it is only way to go if you don't want to risk that banding.

Good thing is that K-3III is actually not that loud and these mirroros will be more and more damped. Benefits with flicker and that jello distortion, or complete lack of it is great.

I do wonder what is the big discussion at here again. Great value entrylevel camera coming up. Pentax is still delivering cameras after K-3III and this is just to serve that group of people who wish to have entry level camera with smaller budget. Teaser video looked great and you can get most of things done with this camera you want from DSLR anyway and it is brand new with most recent things(yes not K-3III level, but so what).

IMHO entrylevel with WR and all that is quite darn good already. Even more expnsive models from 'competition' does not have that. especially with 'cheap lenses' .

Yes, ricoh/pentax has slow release cycle. It is actually bigger thing that you would thing in this world of consuming us all to a point where it is not really needed. Still you are forced to bring new things on the board in order to show that you have a pulse.

good to see this coming up.

To be honest, I think that there will be FF K-3III, with the exception that it will propably have moonlander kind of flippy, and possibly some more advanced HI res photo innovations. it will be more photo centric and the key element is the OFV(DSLR) and focus system around that. Video will most likely be 8 bit 4K with quite a bit of jello and crop, unless the sensor is low(24-32) MP and/or they will find a way to get readouts very much higher than it is with K-3III. If video is important and fast and responsive LV, AF-C. Then you would be better off searching that for example from that Sony. I'd say that h€ll will freeze over before those things will be found in your Pentax camera. I have Cmera for very high quality video and photos now, and I will also have Pentax for just for photography. At least as long as I can afford to run multiple systems and there is need for that. (That said, as I did mention earlier, more advanced video would be very nice bonus. But I might be in minority of pentaxians for that in mind.)

K-1III, if it will be here, will be photography oriented camera. Based on what Ricoh has been saying past years. Might be that they will change that now especially when technology is moving forward, so that many thigns are more easy to apply. But if you look forexample a Fuji GFX 50II(which is kind of competition also, atleast they say that them self) it has -only- max, Full HD 30 FPS video. Guys who buy that don't buy it for video, yes, it can do it, but that is not why they buy it. So it is not unreasonable even todays 'standards'. It has better EVF, duh, but not OVF at all...not for everybody..

I'd think that you do need PLM lens for focus stacking. Already AF precision is much better with PLM than even SDM or DC lenses, with K-3III. Which has by far the best AF from previous pentax cameras.

---------- Post added 11-07-22 at 12:54 ----------

I'v already bought a caera system that has very high quality video and takes high quality stills too :) That is the purchaseable option if Video is needed, although a bit expensive one.

That said, IF K-1III would have improved close up to the 'competition' grade video(for example the Nikon), it would not hurt. Then again, it has been said by Pentax/Ricoh that their prime is photography. They are not interested of these 'hybrid' cameras. This does take me back to the beginning about options :)

I still love my Pentax and would be interested of trading in my K-3III in favor of K-1III, if it will be as well a big improvement over previous model. If not, I'll stick with K-3III which is already very nice camera.

price for K-1II is very affordable right now. next K-1III will propably be 3000 € and more. So it should have some nice features, or people will just not go there, this has been the case with K-3III already. For many it was also too much, because of so many alternatives for that same price. So in that case atleast 45 MP should be nice(I know it is nice). IMO it is not bad nor too big. Even 60 should be good, but that ISO performance might be of an issue, but it is where the 'future' is(45 MP there abouts, not interested of 24 MP FF - my personal preference and experience- ). This might be problem for some in terms of computing power/storage.

I'll head out to Denmark tomorrow for a couple of weeks, and propably taking R5C with me and RF 24-105/4 to see what it will be all a bout. a bit nervous of this expensive combo, since I had good time with my K-3III + 40/2. XS. Might change my mind to K-3III + 16-50 combo. But I was thinking of shooting some video too, so...but yeah. have a great november everyone!

Uuuh! it has been busy for me(good thing that I'll get to go back to touring to DK next month, it is more easy than doing it all by your self), so commenting has been lagging. But it has been fun so far. Winter darkness has snug up on us, so days are super short all of a sudden...bummer. it is about the time to take my tripod out..

Yup! I'm also usin LR + PS combo, and while it might not be same as some other popular Photoapps, it is straight forward and easy to work with and quick too. I usually send small sized things straight from Lr to customer and if more defined things are needed it is easy to pop them in Ps and get it done. I'm not even using them at their max capacity, plenty to learn still especially with PS...

I have DFA*70-200. It should be quite good from wide open. I usually find that the little glow from f 2.8 is gone by f 3.2 or 3.5. f4 is not usually needed and mostly I'm shooting wide open with out any problems.

othervise as said before, try to get shutter speed as high as you can(1/400-1/800). Sometimse lower shutter speeds lower than that are also cool for some motion but it is up to your taste. Chime in as close as you can 70-200 even on crop is not that long reach. Great thing about DFA is that there is also that focus limiter. Not sure if K-5 tends to hunt, but that would still keep the focus at the ballpark... and have fun!

Is the video quality on Pentax really that bad on 1080p 30fps?

K-3III full HD 1080 with 60 fps is definetly good enough. Just get your exposure right and you can get nice video with not so noticeable jello for panning movements. Can be used hand held, monopod or tripod or so and you can get very nice results :)

For video K-1 series are not so good. FF is not always better.

Indeed, brighter OVF for K-1III. What is beautiful with K-3III is brightness but also low distortion, and they did it right for many reasons. Basically K-3III reminds me of FF camera, with smaller sensor. Even if it is crop. With right lenses, there is no problems and end result is quite close to FF…with smaller footprint :)

Yeh, it was more like my own preferences. Acceptable video is needed now a days. I have K-3III and it has okay video. And it should be absolute minimum. They should still get that readout faster. also if you have just 7 minutes of 4K it is a bit lame. Sure you can use it and get okay result, but it is FULL HD 1080 camera. even if it says 4K.

I'm shooting video with different system, I'm going to buy one more professional camera for video this time, that won't be able to take photos, just video...

I'm shooting photos with Pentax K-3III because I do think that it is very good camera. K-1 would be one heck of a camera if it had K-3III tech -even if it would still shoot 5 FPS-. As long as keeper rate would be 9 out of 10, like it is with k-3III. Eye AF and ability to find and track human and actually animals, even if it is not written in specs (animal eye af), is very nice. Could be better still, but it is huge step in right direction..

joystick. it is surprisingly good and touch screen is actually very nice on K-3III. I had some doubts and actually refused to use them at first, since I was accustomed to shoot with my Pentax at sertain way...but slowly it was growing on me. I'd like to have 'moonlander', but if that would mean that there will not be touch screen...it would become complicated.

but that is just me.
