I was let loose on some food photography (not the styling) for my other half's magazine. She is the editor of a Vegan Food and lifestyle magazine. I didn't have a say over styling only minor rearrangements. This isn't my usual area of photographic endeavour. I kind of enjoyed the experience, but would now like to have more control over styling (once or twice a year perhaps) and advanced warning so that lighting might be more controlled. The theme is canapes for Christmas parties as a Vegan. All with the Z and 90mm macro.

P.S. I had duck for my dinner tonight.

I've been very quiet on these forums for a bit. This is due to having been deeply busy getting this house built to let out as a holiday property. This was taken two nights ago and is two shots ISO bracketed and blended manually in PS6 . The house was taken at ISO 400 and the sky at ISO 1600. Not exactly realism, or my best work, but I'm out of practice. Looking forward to getting back to taking more photos soon.

I think the first two would make David Lynch very happy. I like all of them as abstracts, but as with all abstracts it is tough to say why. They just please me, so thank you.

One guy I know who had two Labradors gave them perfectly good Gallic place names. But after living with them for 8 years he mostly referred to them as 'Assault' and 'Battery'. This was due to the boisterousness around lamp stands, and other light furniture. But they were also adorable. Have fun, as they will whether you like it or not ;)

A couple of shots with the Z and 28-45mm.

Handheld 5 shot pano, taken in portrait orientation, of a house I am having built to let out as a holiday rental complete with 9 acre garden.

A single slightly cropped shot of a sunnken boat near Keills Chapel on the argyll coast. It was taken in November 2014 and for some reason I neglected to look at it much before now.

The files are not absolutely tack sharp at 100% but the trees are nearly two miles away and the mountain 17 miles away. Although all the shots I took (12 in total) were set up identically there is some significant variation in sharpness ranging from unusable to printable to moderate proportions. I wouldn't like to print big with close viewing distances with any of them, but given the combo is not generally thought to be good I thought the good files were OK and could be of some use.

I don't think it was variation in atmospheric conditions that played a role in the variance. More likely vibration from wind, shutter operation, or both.

A couple of shots taken with the Z at 400mm using the A 200 and 2 x Teleconverter. Taken 40 minutes apart and of Ben Cruachan at the head of Loch Awe. First time I have tried this combination.

Sony Presents New BSI 100MP Medium Format Sensor

However, the DFA90 macro is utterly superb, as is the 28-45 zoom. Maybe not superlative value for money, but the best of their kind in existence. That said if I could have bought them for $2k I would have been even more satisfied with the product. To me though the problem remains no new, or simply updated, lenses for the Z for too long. I have no need of a 35mm as the 28-45 is excellent at 35 as it is.

How often do you use your D or Z handheld?

The disparity of experience hand holding the Z with the 28-45mm is interesting. Personally I can achieve excellent results hand holding that lens more than any other with the Z. The SR is very effective, and relative movement at the FOV is also reduced, though more so at 28 than 45. So is it the shakes being induced by muscle fatigue from the combo's weight that some struggle with? I can't see the weight alone being the problem. Weight, almost by definition, dampens movement.

A plan for Pentax MF going forward

Intersecting question, but possibly not relevant to optimising current sensor tech. I think I have been supportive of your line of questioning up to this point. As above I need new lenses optimised for current sensor tech or beyond. Either or both. Both ideally, but the current camera body at 51MP is stellar, and optimised for currency dominates my mind. But again, future proofing is desirable.

The thing that hangs most pertinently over the future of Pentax 645 dominance is undoubtedly the availability of new optimised lenses. Second stage currently is what constitutes optimised lenses. Personally I think there is still latitude available for updated lenses that optimise the current 645Z. But future proofing is also an issue. Therefore optimising for a 100MP sensor will both optimise for that and the 51MP sensor and beyond. I have no problem buying a lens optimised for 49MP more than I currently own in sensor terms. I mean that, literally no problem, unless I upgrade to 100MP and find them lacking.

A very rushed shot as this light was only showing itself for about one minute. Handheld with the Z and FA 150 2.8 @ F13_125th_ISO400. I didn't have a tripod with me and wouldn't have had time to set it up anyway. I regret going to f13 instead of 11 as I could have got the shutter speed up a bit above 150th but I was rushed and trying to keep my dog from running away after deer. It is far from perfect at full res but it scales down quite well. Really only showing this because it is a photograph of a truly lovely scene, rather than a truly lovely photograph of a scene. It is a view north eastwards up Loch Awe towards Ben Cruachan at the very moment the sun was setting behind the hills behind and left of this postion.

What's up with the different lighting on the upper border. Doesn't seem like the same lighting set up which makes even the lens comparison redundant.

CP+ is coming around and Adam is asking for questions to put to Ricoh Pentax. Please could any 645 users that want to see updated lenses soon, such as the road mapped 80-160, pop over to the thread that is asking for questions and at suggest that the 645 lens future is important to ask about. There is a danger that the FF prime need will swallow us up, as has the FF camera development. Glad they made the K1 but would prefer if they hadn't abandoned their MF customers in the meantime.

What is the latest proposed timescale for further 645 lens updates/replacements. Specifically the 80-160 ish shown on the lens roadmap with WR DC and modern coatings. The Z did better than they anticipated, but so far no updated lenses beyond 90mm. Why is this?

I have been involved in this thread from early on and have understood what it is about from the get go. This is not my agenda. It is a way of taking photographs that helps balance the histogram to capture best what you want the photo to be. Why Nunzio should not use spot meter is beyond me. He can use any metering method he wants to as far as I'm concerned.
