printing black and white photos

so it's been way too long that I have actually printed my photos....last time that I actually printed a negative was in a darkroom with an enlarger...

I do black and white pretty much exclusively and I'm not interested in printing color.
For those that print themselves.....what type of printer and paper do you use / recommend?
Would a laser printer be a good choice for B&W printing? Frankly I had too many bad experiences with ink-jet printers in the past just printing out simple documents...

Pentax ZX-30

...same here, I never had an AF film camera and was curious about results. I have a K1000 so I can use pretty much any of my K mount lenses except the DA's.
I Ebay'd a couple of batteries for it so I guess I'll wait and see if it even works at this point.

Pentax ZX-30

Hi Guys,
I picked up a Pentax ZX-30 about a year ago from KEH for $10.00. It sat on my shelf for about a year untill I put a FA 50mm 1.7 lens on it today.
Apparently it is all electronic and uses batteries...two CR2 for the body and a 2025 battery for the back plate (date function).
Has anyone used this or know anything about it. I can't even look through the viewfinder right now because I don't have batteries yet and the mirror is locked up.

catch in focus question

..so I have no problem using any of my pentax manual lenses with the "catch in focus" settings however when I switch to a non-pentax lens like my Zenit Hellios 44M-6 with the adaptor it does not work...??
Am I doing something wrong or does catch in focus only work with Pentax Manual lenses without an adaptor?

To keep my CCD based DSLR or not.

I will never sell my K200D. It's not worth the money I'd get for it and I'd rather keep it.
Years from now CCD will have a niche following just like film has today....:)

the top LCD is one of the most useful features....heck even my old K200D has one.....personally I'd wouldn't buy a DSLR without one but that's just me.

K-3 video question

OK, so I just discovered another great feature on the K-3 that was totally under-utilized....video!
So another question...obviously it does not auto-focus in video mode or am I missing the AF feature somewhere?
I have to manually focus in live view.....

I've actually never used either my K-5 or my K-3 to record video...
Is the K-3 capable of recording B&W only video?

What if you could only have 1 camera with one lens....

I went to Boston for the weekend and was staying at a Hostel so I didn't want to risk getting my K-3 and some FA lenses stolen so I just brought my GR.
I love using the GR because it goes anywhere in your pocket and most of the time I'm needing a wide lens anyway.
...absolutely can't beat it for convenience, portability, IQ and getting the shot when a DSLR is awkward to carry around....

oh yeah, this reminded me of my manual K 50mm f1.2 that has been neglected on the shelf...not AF but I think it will find a home on the Pentax FF eventually... :)

actually I would change my choice to the new Pentax FF / FA43 limited....it's smaller, lighter and just as sharp as the FA31 IMO ( I'm sure some will disagree)....it's also closer to the 50mm normal standard on th FF

"Pros" talking trash about Pentax?

it facinates me that people actually takes side about camera brands....really
NIkon, Canon, Pentax, Sony...all of these camreas are more than capable of taking quality photos.
Most of the time a good photo is simply the right composition with the right lighting and the correct settings and focus...plain and simple.
I've been pleasantly surprised by photos taken with an iPhone that looked fantastic especially with the right PP.

Personally my preference for Pentax is pretty simple....it is the most solid, well-built, best feeling DSLR that I've ever held in my hands.....my other camera of choice is Leica for the same obvious reasons.
The only drawback with Leica is that their lenses are way overpriced but are peerless and the best glass that you can buy hands-down.

Lenses for Italy trip

Of your selection I'd choose the 31,43 & the 77.
I might add that an epic trip like this call for a DA15....treat yourself before you go....size matters and the DA15 is a pleasure to have on the camera.

...there's almost no grain with Kodachrome II (25 ASA) especially a file this small...I processed the scan from PrimeFilm through DxO to create the B&W.
here's a similar file taken from the same roll.

...new rule for me...no more lenses until I sell some that I have to fund any new purchase.
and this time I mean it...:)

KEH quality control

I've had LOTS of dealings with KEH and generally favorable but lately it's been hit or miss.

They actually balked at sending me a return pickup label today after I told them I was not satisfied with a purchase.
On the other hand I purchased a "bargain" lens last week that arrived in "like new" condition and was very pleasantly surprised.
The thing that they have going for them is the 6 month warranty...without that, you might as well just buy stuff on Ebay.

Questions about M42 adapters

I'm thinking that I'll probably get an adapter for each M42 lens and just keep them with the lens instead of moving the adaptor from body to body...they are pretty cheap.
