Pentax Q to complement a NEX-6?

I use a Nex 3N as a complement for my Q.
When I need to be quit and I want no one to notice me while I am shooting the Q helps me a lot due to its size.
And with the 48 mm F1.9 I can shot in low light situations.

I only have the Kit Lens for my Nex which suits me well as it is sharp, but a bit on the slow side, but again, it allows me to zoom.

Your Favorite K-01 In Camera Effect?

To me the dial is a real benefit compared to other cameras.
I find it astounding that the Q seems to faster than the K 01 in incamera processing.
Maybe due to the lower resolution.

I do not care whether the jpeg processing is destructive.
The ability to create shots that are unique out of the cam this is what fascinates.

I can shot and show the result immediately. And there is always a place where it is necessary to be fast.
And that is what I can do with those mirrorless cameras from pentax.
That is what makes these cameras outstanding compared to other manufacturers.
That is the advantage you should make use of.
Not to imitate with these cameras what you can do with every other camera.

You cannot recreate scenes like that in post processing.
Here is the emotion captured with the camera. This is done with the Q. No one cared about the camera. I disabled the focus light and was there, drinking, having fun and did a shot every once in a while.
No need to care for ISO and absolute sharpness. It is about the moment.
And this has to be done in the camera in the moment. Both K 01 and Q do a very good job in b/w pictures.

Be brave and decide the moment you shoot and not afterwards. Capture a moment and not a picture.

I would be happy if pentax would strenghten their in camera processing and would add a Q like dial to every cam the make.
I am a great fan and some effects are all I do to alter my fotos.
RAW is so boaring.
I do not see the sense of altering the picture.
I want to make the picture I see through the display on the back of the camera.
For me the digital effects are like changing analog film in the camera, like switching from b/w to color, choose more or less grainy film.
So these effects lead to make the choice while doing the photo...
This leads me to play while creating the picture and not creating the picture afterwards... This is boaring to me and a waste of time...
A more powerful and faster in camera processing and a good way to make and choose those presets would be a great expansion of creativity.. imho...

Done with the pentax 16-45 f4
Please note that this is out of cam.
Only postproc was done in picasa, sharpening and resizing.
I love the mirrorless pentax for their digital filters...
no photoshop no funny stuff, ooc is the way to go.....

Workflow using the Q

I would say that one of the great advantages of the q and the K01 are the internal processes to manipulate pictures.
I see no sense in taking a picture as neutral as possible and then alter it in photoshop, lightroom or whatever software.
In my Q I have one setup for b/w and have altered it to my fits.
I did the same for hogh contrast color pictures and some other picture possibilites.
So, as if I had a analog camera, where I choose a color or b/w film, high or low sensitivity I do that by choosing one of my settings, I placed on the front knob.
I did the same on the green button of my K01.
So postprocessing is mostly importing it into picasa, doing some sharpening, some color correction by lowering the saturation and maybe straightening the picture.
This forces me to take the picture as I want t have it and as the postprocessing is already displayed on the backscreen it helps a lot.
I would like to encourage you to give this way a try, for me it is the shortest way to a creative shot.
And that is for me what makes the mirrorless cameras from pentax so special.

newbie to dSLR and my pentax q: question:)

Try a higher Aperture Number, it seems as if you shot it with 1.9 and you mismatched the focus on it as well.
You get a deeper field of sharpness by increasing the aperture number, to 2.8 for example.
And keep an eye on ISO, don't have it fixed but enable the Q to choose it by itself in a range from 100 to 1200 for example.
In b/w you can set it to a wider range like 1600.
Higher ISO gives you shorter shooting time and together with image stabilisation this should enable you to shoot in low light situations.
The green square that tells you that the focus is fixed sometimes fails and you should double check...
I hope this helps
regards and enjoy your Q!

As I am a huge fan of the internal picture processing of the K 01, I did not do anything to the picture but sharpening.
Of course it is only a shot of my cat, but I love the contrast and the colors.
Done with the Walimex 85 /1.4

Poll: How did you end up with a K-01?

I could not afford to buy the Fuji X E1 and kept on looking for a high quality camera.
And so I started fishing on the "low end" and as I already have the fabulous pentax Q that makes me happy every time I shoot pictures, I found the K 01.
I like the high ISO performance of Pentax cameras, they do it so much better in their price range as all the rest.
I played with some settings in the K 01 to match the great b/w performance of the Q and now I get all the technical advantage of the K 01 and the same impression of b/w right out of the camera with it plus better lenses :-)
I bought a manual walimex 85m 1.4, it is a great addition and I will buy the manual walimex 14mm 2.8 as well...
Yeah, and I too miss an optical viewfinder, I guess I have to live with that, but I really like the focus peaking, it takes some practice, a bit more practice than with the Q but that is ok.
Again, Pentax did a great job and ok, sad for them, good for me, they are not as successful with their cameras as they should be and so I had the chance to buy it at a very low price in Germany.
I really would like to make a direct competition between the K 01 and the Fuji.. I expect no winner in this, both are great, one is cheaper :-)

Anyone try to print large with a Q?

Largest I did was 180 x 120 cm and 120 x 80 cm and it looks great.
I made it for a therapy center.
Note that the object fits in a palm...
I made the picture in the sand of a riverside on a cloudy day with the prime 01.
Even the larger one looks good.
I guess there won't be any viewer running around with a magnifying glass counting pixels.
But they could count grains of sand :-)

Again, may be there are cameras with larger sensors and bigger resolution..
I do not see a reason to switch the camera and to be honest, right now there would be only one camera to take a deeper look into and that is the Fuji X-E1 with the prime 35 mm lense.
But as I am on a tight budget the Pentax Q makes me happy :-)

Color vs b/w
Ok, there might be other more potential cameras out there..
OK, this could be every DSLR with a fixed lense...
But I would not want to carry that around....
People don't recognize me as a photographer and that is an advantage..

I love this little Camera.
As I can take it everywhere and as the Prime 01 forces me to "work" with my motive, instead of zooming in and out, it lets me do pictures in a very creative way.
I like the picture quality and I do hope Pentax is aware what little piece of fine technique they made.
The Flower shot was made with my old vivitar 55 mm macro f2.8 and I think it does a very good job.
I hope you like the shots and I do hope you enjoy the Q as much as I do ;-)
regards
