Sigma 20mm 1.8 vs sigma/tamron 17-50 2.8

I've been offered a sigma 20mm 1.8 for a pretty decent price but after looking at reviews, it doesnt seem very usable at 1.8 but pretty good at 2.8-4.0.
How does it compare to a 17-50 f2.8 zoom at the same focal length and aperature?

That would be perfect but way over my budget I'm afraid.

Change from 40mm limited

I recently had a Tamron 17-50 2.8 which I though was a bit too noisy, slow af and not super sharp, I sold that lens and bought a 40mm limited.
I think that the 40 is a bit too narrow for a prime for me and was thinking about what could replace it.
If I analyze my photos from the past, most photos are taken at around 18 or 50 mm (probably has alot to do with all my quick snaps and candid photos are taken at the widest end of my 18-135 or 17-50 and all portraits are at 50mm, with the 17-50).

The size of the 40 mm or 21mm is of course nice but not super important, I value the image quality more.

What would you go for instead of the 40 mm limited?
- 21mm (for walk around) plus a 50 1.8 (for portraits)
- 30 mm 1.4 sigma
- ~17-~50 Tamron/Sigma (I like the HSM in the Sigmas..)

I would love to go for more limiteds but that would be far more than I want to spend. I'm looking to spend what I can sell the 40 for plus ~200 usd (I wouldn't mind buying used)

Recover files from SD card Pentax K-5

Hello,

I upgraded from a Kx to a K-5 earlier this year and I was forced to delete som pictures from my camera during a visit in China a few weeks ago, I didn't use the card any more after that and thought I could recover the picures. However, all applications I have tried can restore all pictures taken two years ago with the same sd card but with my K-x but only the thumbnails from the pictures taken with the K-5.

Is there any reason for that or just very bad luck for me?

What's the best application to use?

Perfect lens combination for me, again..

Hello all,

I have a, what we in Sweden call a first world problem... I recently bought a K-5 and I love it (except the screw noise it makes when you turn it on and another lens related problem, described below).

I bought just the camera house and I have a Tamron 18-250 which I like as a travelzoom since I am lazy and I also have a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 which I also like, however I find that it overexposes about 1 stop when it is dark.. annoying! anyone have any idea what I can do, except underexpose?

Since the K-5 is WR, it would be a shame not to have a WR lens but I don't want to carry too many lenses. (2 zoom lenses + prime maximum).

What would you do to get the most bang for the buck, I don't want to spend all my money on this adventure. I mostly take street photos and "travel pictures".
1) get a 18-55 wr and carry three lenses
2) sell 18-250 and buy a 18-135
3) sell 17-50 and buy a 18-55WR +prime?
4) ?

Damn these choices, why can't they just make a cheap 18-150 WR 2.8 lens? =)

OT in my own thread... but how does the Tamron match the kit lens, 18-55 or 18-135?

I have a DA35 2.4 which I am pretty happy with today but sometime I am a lazy person and miss the zoom ability..
I have the possibility to switch from the 35 2.4 to a Tamron 17-50 2.8 with almost no money in between.

The lens is mostly for street and regular photography..

Will I lose or gain any picture quality by doing this?
I know I will gain reach but also gain size..

Since there are no WR-lenses anyway, how does the Sigma 30mm f1.4 compare to the 35 f2.4?

Thank you for that input.. I do find it annoying that the K-x is loud... Is the K-5 quieter?
I did consider a Fuji X-e1 or something like that to get a quieter camera but I think I have decided to stay with Pentax since I have so much gear for pentax.. I think I have decided at least..

Best Street photography with WR?

I have decided to upgrade from a K-X to either a K-5 or K-30, mostly because of the WR. I like doing street photography, just walking around and taking pictures of people..
I went from a (bad) Tamron 17-50 f2.8 to a nice DAL 35 2.4 which I like very much, but since I am upgrading to a WR-camera, I figured I might aswell look into getting a WR-replacement lens aswell.
What is the best weather sealed lens for me? I want to be in the area between 20 and 50mm, no more than that..

Fujifilm X-E1 or Pentax K-5/K-5II

I'm thinking about updating my K-X to either a X-E1 or a K5II (or get a good deal on a "old" K-5)..
I do like the form and features of the X-E1 since I don't want to carry a big heavy DSLR with me at all times. The picture quality looks great but the af worries me (unless it is very updated from the x-pro1).

Since I have a 18-250 and 35 2.4 and a Af360, the upgrade to a K5/K5II would be easy and logical. The WR is a big positive but it is a tad more expensive than the X-E1 and bigger..

I mostly take "tourist pictures", street photography and landscapes.

Please Pentaxforum, help me make up my mind :)

18-250! I had the Sigma 70-300 DG OS and a 18-200, the 18-250 outperformed both.. (on KX)

Are there any new rumors about what the DA High Magnification Zoom Lens from the Pentax Lens Road map could be?

I wish for a 18-200 WR SDM! Please make it happen, yesterday.

Walkaround question + Pentax 35mm f2.4 vs Tamron 17-50 f2.8@35mm

I ended up swaping my 70-300+18-200 for a 18-250. It is the Tamron version though, can I use the lens correction or is it only for the Pentax model(which I believe is the same?)
Thanks for all your help.
My next lens will probably be a prime..

I might as well see if I can find any 18-250 tomorrow then, not very common here though :(
I already have the Tamron 17-50 and I think I will stick to that then together with a 18-250.

Well since the Tamron 17-50 isn't that big and heavy and the K-x is pretty small and light by it self the size isn't a problem.
I guess I won't buy the 35/2.4 then since there is no improvement.

What about the others, should I swap my Sigma 70-300 and Tamron 18-200 for a Tamron 18-250 or a Pentax 18-135, The focal length issue is pretty insignificant, I care mostly about image quality in this case..

Hey guys,

I bought a K-X last christmas and then added a Tamron 17-50 2.8, Sigma 70-300 DG OS, Tamron 18-200 and a Takumar 135 2.8.
I feel that my 18-200 is pretty nice to have when walking around in my temporary home town of Guangzhou, China. However, it is not as sharp as I would have wished and the AF is not very much to cheer for. I currently feel that I have spent enough money on my kit but have the option to swap the Sigma and the 18-200 for either a Tamron 18-250 or a Pentax 18-135 WR. Which one is the better buy?

Another option is to keep the Sigma and only sell the 18-200 and buy a prime 35 f2.4 instead but I don't know if that's any idea since I believe that my 17-50 Tammy is pretty good, is the DA 35mm much better than the Tammy?

What would you have done? :)
