New K-series DSLR under development to be exhibited

Not sure how you disagree with it right here in the picture. See the curved lip? The notch you are seeing is just the inside surface of the lip. It can't possibly curve out like this AND notch inward. Pretty hard evidence if you ask me. I mean seriously, where did all these blind photographers come from? :D

You are still looking at the image that is misleading, because of the perspective. It is an optical illusion, but all you are seeing is the horizontal surface inside the curve. This image is more clear:

Many people have looked at the images and fallen for the optical illusion, but there is no notch at the bottom right of the screen. Look at the other angles, specifically the photos from above, to see the truth. It is merely the bezel curving up, just like it does on the top corner, but you can't see the inside of the curve on the top because of the angle.

Hi everyone. A few weeks ago I posted about how I was struggling to enjoy photography but wanted to get back into it. You can read that thread here: Trying to get back into photography... - PentaxForums.com

Well, I took my K-50 camping with me last weekend and managed to find that joy again. I didn't get too many keepers, but that isn't what it was about for me this time. I really enjoyed the photography that I did there, and I was able to put my enjoyment above the obsession with getting amazing photos for once. I even left my camera behind much of the time because I could see that lugging a DSLR on a 6 mile hike, etc was not going to be enjoyable, and I was totally fine with it.

Anyway, I think this community has helped me establish a much healthier relationship to this hobby of mine, and I thank you all for that. And of course I wouldn't finish this without sharing one of my pics, and its only the best I have to offer for you fantastic people. This was the photo I got when we were at camp near Moab, Utah and were stunned by a gorgeous sunset. Enjoy!

And I also got to do my first ever attempt at astro-photography and star trails. I learned a lot and hope to improve upon this next time.

I didn't find them to be ignorant, just having a different opinion than most Pentaxians. I was disappointed that they didn't talk about more models, such as the K-3, etc. What in particular do you think they are ignorant about?

Trying to get back into photography...

Hi everyone,

I have taken a break from photography for the last year, after pursuing it as a hobby for a few years.

I think the reason was because I kind of had an identity crisis about my photography. I had a hard time answering the question of why I was doing it. There are so many better photographers out there. They are more skilled, as well as better equipped, and all the places and things I would want to photograph have all been visited and photographed by these people before.

And yet, I still feel the urge to take my camera out and use it. I just don't know how to justify it though Also, I have always wanted to achieve the stunning results of people I see here and other places but I have always struggled to do so, despite studying, practice, etc. Sometimes I feel like I have to buy gear I can't afford and that is another reason I have put my camera away... I have a K-50 and some basic lenses and I just feel like it is a huge struggle to try and get good results with entry-level equipment. I know the K-50 is a good camera, but I often fall into the trap of thinking better equipment will somehow solve my issues. I find myself thinking that spending tons of money on a better lens will make my pictures stop being soft, or getting a higher resolution sensor will make my pictures sharper. Here is the thing - there is some truth to that - but I can't really go out and buy a new camera at the moment so I am left with the frustration of pictures that just never turn out well. The right thing to do is to just make do with what I have, I know, but how do I get into a better mindset about it?

Has anyone else been here? How do you get past this? I appreciate your responses.

EDIT:

Thank you all so much for your replies. I am moved by your passion and heartfelt advice. I really love this online community - there is something special here. Okay that was really sappy but I can't help it. I am going to get my camera and take my dog to the park right now and start doing the daily in thing. I think I can start doing this again with a healthier mindset, simply because I enjoy it. Thank you all for the encouragement.

Well then you might be disappointed when the kp comes out. I have a reliable source telling me that the kp isn't actually a camera, but an incognito flask designed to help you sneak alcohol into sporting events. Who needs fast af and fps when you have spirits!

The concept is similar to this:

Hahahahah this was the funn(i)est thread to read. I am planning on upgrading from my K-50 soon and I really hope there will be a K-3ii replacement. I'm guessing there will be 10 new pages of posts in the morning for me to read over my morning coffee. I love you Pentax Forms! Pentax is DOOMED and I will gladly go down with the sinking ship and all of you fine folks.

Also i am kind of amazed that this thread eventually turned into an actual rumor thread after getting so ridiculous. Kudos to the people brave enough to venture into foreign language websites. You guys should create the Pentax Forums Intelligence Service or something.

I found this on a blog post of photography tricks and it made me laugh, because I can't imagine getting any sort of usable image quality doing this. I hope it does the same for others. Here is a link: 9 Weird Photography Tricks That Actually Work!

4. Remove the lens for macro

This is the coolest camera trick Iíve seen in a long time. If you take off your lens and hold it in front of the camera, you get a macro lens! I was really skeptical about this, but I just tried it and it worked like a charm.
There are four things you need to know about using this trick: (1) Your camera wonít take a picture with the lens off unless youíre in manual mode. (2) The best focal length seems to be around 50mm, so either a 50mm prime or an 18-55mm kit lens would be perfect! (3) Obviously, you lose autofocus since your lens isnít attached to the camera. Focus is achieved by simply moving closer to or further away from the subject, and (4) The camera canít open up the aperture, so youíll do it with your hand. On the back of the lens (the side you mount on the camera), move the little plastic slider piece that controls the aperture. If you look in the lens while doing it, youíll see the hole open up.
If you want to take this a step further, you can buy a reverse lens mount for $5 or $10 which should sharpen up the images quite a bit since it will hold the lens more solidly. Also, be sure to use a tripod when doing this or any other macro photography. With such fine detail, even a tiny movement can destroy the sharpness.

My 2015 Tax return has landed me....

If only we could claim our "baby" as a dependent... I could have double my return with an additional child tax credit! Is it bad that I see getting a bigger tax return as motive for having another child? Haha I'm kidding... the idea of using that as a means of fueling my LBA amuses me though (but I would never seriously consider it lol). Although I did use the fact that I had recently had my first child to justify buying my K-50. Gotta record those memories, right?

Haha you are lucky your wife is taking an interest in a DSLR. My wife has no interest in photography so I can't buy gear with the excuse of getting it for here lol. I have a black K-50 but sometimes I wish I had spent the extra 100 bucks to get a cool color.

Theory about time vs. results trade off
Posted By Zephos

I have a theory, and this may seem totally obvious to most people but I'm just getting around to accepting it.

You see, I am a full time student and I have job as well as a wife and daughter so I don't get a lot of time to go out and do something as selfish as my photography. When I do, I am usually under time constraints and often times don't take very much time setting up my shots, etc, etc. Nor am I able to go to cool places or go exploring very often, and my favorite type of photography is nature and landscape.

Anyway, I am rarely satisfied with my results and I know that it takes time to really be good at this, but I'm starting to wonder if I don't get satisfaction out of my shots because I just don't put enough time into it. I mean, what photographer can spend only a couple hours every other week with his camera without doing much traveling, etc, and come out with great stuff on a regular basis? Maybe there is someone here who can prove me wrong, but the only stuff I find around my house that would only take a minute to shoot is subject material for macro shots, really, and certainly not during the winter (all the little critters are hiding).

Anyway, I wonder how much I can expect my photography to improve when I'm done with school, or when I'm retired even. I bet someone here can tell me how it was for them.

Thanks all!

How can I tell it's enough?
Posted By Zephos

It's not about having enough for me, it's about whether my current skill level and results can justify getting more stuff. For example, I made a rule for myself that I can't get a new camera until I have mastered using my K-50. That entails becoming a skilled photographer, getting good at using all the features, and getting good a post production too. Once I've done that and I have results to prove that I'm a serious photographer (in other words, I have impressed my wife enough to win her enthusiastic support) then I will let myself get a K-3. Once I have done that with the K-3 (and am financially secure) then I will think about the K-1.

With lenses, I tend to limit myself to only getting a new lens once in a given time period (usually a year, unless they are cheap). This ensures that I will actually get time to use the ones I have and learn what they and I can do together. In particular, I promised myself the D FA 100 Macro as a graduation present to me mesmo :). I can't wait to graduate in Spring of 2017 so I can get it! It motivates me to study hard so I don't graduate late for any reason, not that I need anymore motivation but the more the better I guess.

Hope these ideas help.

I am trying to improve my PP skills. I did this in rawTherapy, however in the process I discovered Darktable which seems to be more powerful and has a lot of features that I haven't found in rawTherapy. Anyone know if it is better? I can't afford Adobe products at the moment. Anyway, I am attaching the out of camera JPG and my own rendition. What do you think?

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to submit more than one time (this is my second) but I remembered some good advice. Learn to read a histogram and use it to judge your photos as you take them. A photo may look one way in your camera's screen but totally different once you put it on the computer. The histogram never lies.
