Adaptall-2 Teleconverter with 19AH

I don't have the 1.4X but I have the 2X (01F) and the 19AH and they fit together fine. The Adaptall-2.org site says both the 1.4X and 2X should fit on lenses with a stationary master group (rearmost lens elements), which the 19AH has. So I think it should fit...

Most expensive mirror lens ever? I know it's rare but $600+ really? Anyone ever used one of these?

Pentax Ad Fail!

LOL, I really like that ad! Though I doubt they would need anything faster than 1/100 for that capture :p

Thanks for pointing that out! I'm glad I'm wrong about there being only one. Any K-x/K-r/K-5 ones? Could make for a fun afternoon trying to find Pentax ads around the city.

Pentax Ad Fail!

Saw this in a parking lot in downtown Vancouver and thought it was pretty funny. No wonder so few people have a Pentax...their latest ad is from 2006! Looks like a K10D, but for some reason they've edited out the model number on the body. I think this is the ONLY Pentax ad I have ever seen in Vancouver.

Takumar Bayonet 28 f2.8 "shifts" during stop-down metering

Thanks Joe!

I did notice the rear element was a little loose and I tightened that but I never checked the front. Great advice!

Thanks for the responses everyone! I think I will go for that FA 28/2.8 too, and do some comparisons.

Takumar Bayonet 28 f2.8 "shifts" during stop-down metering

I recently got a Takumar Bayonet 28 f.28 lens for next to nothing. Cosmetically it is in perfect shape, but I've noticed that when stop down metering (or any time the aperture lever is released) the image in the viewfinder shifts up noticeably. It seems like the entire optical assembly has a bit of wobble, which happens when pressing down on the aperture lever. It doesn't seem to affect the quality of my pictures, but I'm guessing that the final image is very slightly different due to the shift.

Has anyone ever noticed something like this with this or any other lens? I did a search and couldn't find anything on "wobbly" lenses. I did try taking it apart (curse you JIS screws and thread lock!) but saw no way to tighten up the assembly.

I've seen this lens gets fairly average reviews due to the lack of SMC coating and being a budget lens, but the IQ is pretty good:

OTOH, I have a chance to pick up a Pentax-FA 28 2.8 for $160. Would it be worthwhile (strictly with regards to IQ) replacing the Tak with that?

Promaster Spectrum 7 lens 100-500mm

I think this is the same as the Samyang, Phoenix, possibly other versions of the 100-500 mm. I had the Samyang version but I sold it due to it being heavy (it is solid metal and glass), difficult to focus (you NEED a tripod, and lots of light), and pretty soft above 300 mm or so.

Sold mine for $100, one recently sold on ebay for $200, so $85 is an okay price, but I personally wouldn't recommend it.

Just got my K-r back from Pentax Canada Service today. Everything is good so far.

The invoice says the part replaced was the "TV/AV DIAL P.C.B BLOCK", and that my camera was cleaned and adjusted. They even got rid of that annoying speck of dust that was in my viewfinder!

In total, it was at service center for just over a week. I was expecting to wait at least a month. VERY impressed with the service.

That sounds like what happens when you have an M lens attached: you can only use M, video, and all other modes display as Av, like you say. It's on page 312-313 of the K-r manual.

If you're not using an M lens, then there is a problem with the electrical contacts between the lens and the body, making it think there is either no lens attached, or an M lens. I would try cleaning the contacts if that is the case.

Thanks Macario. I just picked up an SMC Pentax-F 35-70mm f3.5-4.5 for $35, so I'll play with that for a bit. It's got some pretty good reviews for a bargain lens. Still looking out for a 50 1.4 or 1.7.

I had a problem with the e-dial on my K-r. Sent it in to Pentax Canada on March 25, and I got a delivery notice today! Too bad I wasn't home to pick it up...gotta wait till tomorrow.

You mean the dial that selects the shooting mode? Never had a problem with that, other than it being too easy to turn and switching the mode when taking it out of my bag. What problems are you experiencing with it? Sounds like a more serious problem than the e-dial...

Also, the only lens I have right now that has full frame coverage is the Tamron 70-300 Di LD Macro. Tried the DA 18-55 kit lens on it and it vignettes noticeably below 24 mm.

Macario, what primes are you using with the MZ-S? Looks like I'm gonna need to pick up some new lenses to do this camera justice.

Yeah, I actually just used this the other day. I noticed some condensation in the battery grip release button after doing some test shots outside. I didn't know if it was safe to remove it mid-roll. It's a really nice feature! I think I've read through the whole manual already. Seems pretty simple, just the pentax function numbers are hard to remember.

The ergonomics are definitely superior to my K-r as well, and it just feels way more solidly built. Wish they made a battery grip for the K-r...

Ever since sending in my K-r for repair (faulty e-dial) I've been going through camera withdrawal so I've been routinely browsing craigslist and ebay for used lenses to use when I get it back. Just by chance I found a used MZ-S at a local store for $270, pretty much mint condition with the BG-10 battery grip. Considering the prices these things go for on ebay I figured I couldn't pass this up, and they even took $40 off that price! Initially I was thinking of just selling it to get a tamron 17-50 f2.8, but after running half a roll through it and playing around with it I think I'll probably keep it. It just feels so damn nice! Not much experience shooting film, but it is getting me excited about trying it out more.

I just love how easy it is to change from Av, Tv and P modes and all the controls are so logically placed that I can make any changes without taking my eye off the viewfinder. I'm a little worried I'm not going to feel quite the same when I get my K-r back after handling this beauty. Anyone else have experience with the MZ-S?

I had the same problem too after a couple months of use. Spinning the dial for a long time fixed it temporarily, but it would just start acting up again. Finally sent it in for repair, so now I'm K-r-less for a few more weeks.

I do have a can of contact cleaner, so I'll try that if it messes up again later after my warranty is up. I was afraid it might damage something so I never tried it.

For people in Vancouver, Gastown Photo has the K-r body for $569.99. I got mine for that price before Christmas, and they are definitely legit.
