Picked up a Q10

The Q system is a lot of fun and I also picked up a Q10 on the cheap last year that I plan to use as the basis for a telecine scanner. The Q7 though is a major step up in image quality maybe look for the 01 attached to one of those.

Super pleased to find out it uses the same battery form factor as the K-3 and others. That doesnít eliminate the possibility for a higher mAh rating but even if it doesnít at least I can share batteries and chargers.

The Pentax DZ-1 brought to you by Ricoh. So we can all argue the correct way to pronounce Zed and that it has the Ricoh name on it and complain that it sounds like ďdizzy oneĒ

Many things about the way America operates perplex me this is another of them. Suing over a product years after itís out of warranty? Donít you just punish a company by not buying their product in the future if your that unhappy? Along with a strongly worded tweet. Who has time for an effort like this and to what end?

Pentax K-3 II successor on September 2020

I saved up for a replacement for my K3 which will be 7 years old this year. I donít even think I had a film camera that long in pre digital days. However I ended up buying a 4x5 camera and a new FLM tripod so my desire for a new camera is slightly mitigated. Who am I kidding I look for new news about the K new almost every day.

Well the thread about the APS-c camera update video quickly devolved into who designed a lens argument. Sigh. Hopefully we can have separate threads so we donít have to wade through pages of Tamron did it...no they didnít to talk about the camera.

My advice would be to get familiar with the basics of operation and then add in knowledge of features one at a time.

I bought the K-7 early and dealt with the overheating sensor until it was fixed in firmware. I bought the K3 early and had a few flippy mirror incidents until fixed in firmware. So have I learned anything? No not really I will order the K-new early and hope that if there are any issues they are dealt with in firmware.

Very nice to meet another film shooter. Personally I dont bother with a meter for the Spotmatics. I often have a little digital point and shoot that I use as a light meter. Another thing to test out with this camera is the fast shutter speeds to make sure they work properly. The only way to be sure is to run a roll of film through it and make sure that the exposure is even across the entire frame.

All the best from a fellow Lower Mainland film photographer.

I actual have and use the Elan 7ne Itís a fun thing to try but it doesn't work that well as a photography tool. Even with the limited number of points it requires you to look directly at what you want to focus on in an unnatural way. Itís much better to take everything in a scene in rather than looking specifically at one single point. Canon Elan 7ne (The one that knows where your looking) | Wallace Koopmans Artlog

Thinking about the proximity sensor below the viewfinder and what it could be used for.
1) To start the AF system (like Minolta Maxxums once did)
2) To Blank the rear screen so as to not interfere with the viewfinder
3) To disable a touch sensitive rear LCD
4) To Switch between the rear LCD and a hybrid EVF when in Live View mode.

Iíve ranked them in the order of what I would wish for with 4 being the best. 1 and 2 would be a complete disappointment. 3 would be good but not a deal breaker. So my personal hope is for 4. I mean after all it looks like the return of the stovepipe from the K-01 if that isnt a hint from Ricoh then what is? ;)

So a dial seems like overkill if you are only making three selections. Some sort of smaller lever could have done the trick for selecting between OVF Live View and Movie mode. It's possible and I think likely that there are more options that are not shown yet.

I'm wondering if anyone had a look and has feedback and how many people attended.

As an aside Pentax Forums is strange in that people are chided for creating new threads so they end up talking about the most banal unrelated things in every imaginable thread. Nothing like combing through pages of a thread only to find nothing relating to the actual topic. (Yes I am aware of the irony of this comment but I dare not start a new thread in case someone had once before)

Breaking the 30 Second exposure barrier with interval composite

I just wanted to share my method of creating long exposures using interval composite. I've written before on how to use this feature to replicate long exposures during daylight but in this post I talk about using it for nocturnes and for creating star trails. I think this is timely considering it looks like the K-1 will have a method of doing this in camera and hopefully it will be added to the K-3 series with firmware but in case it isn't here is a way to do it.

Ricoh want's to go mirrorless? With X-mount/Fujifilm? at least 2 years away.

Why would a company want to produce a camera so other companies can sell you a lens? There is a reason Sony has its own mirrorless mount and it isn't technical. If I were Ricoh I would give mirrorless K-mount another go when the technology warrants it. I'm sorry but every time I hear about the new best EVF and I have an actual look I'm reminded of a VHS camcorder.

I believe that by using pixel shift the K-1 will make itself the best camera for reproducing art. Certainly within the reach of the average person.

DA Lenses on Full Frame (DA 35 ltd)
Posted By Painter

Rather than taking pictures of flat surfaces to test some DA lenses for their future full frameness I took some on a hike with me attaching them to a Pentax MZ-6. It became apparent right away that there is a divide between the DA zoom lenses and primes. I've tested some DA zooms previously including the DA*16-50 and found that they don't come close to working on FF. The Primes are a different story. Despite having seen elsewhere that the DA 35 ltd isn't considered to work with full frame I found differently. For real world shooting the DA 35 ltd worked fine when used with my MZ-6. Images and more information are in my blog post Pentax Full Frame and APS-c Lenses | Wallace Koopmans Artlog
