I always using the Profiled Denoise with the Chroma Only option enabled for my photos and it takes care of most of the ugly noise. I may use a touch of non-local means in an additional profiled denoise with a high ISO image above 3200.

Likely the Eastern Wood Sawyer, Xylocopa virginica, the most common across eastern North America. Xylocopa species are sought after by agriculturists due to their ability to carry huge pollen loads and habit of preferring certain plant species. Their pollinator benefits outweigh their wood-boring habits.

if you use a raw processing program that offloads much of its processing to the graphics card then you will notice a huge speedup in processing and exporting times. There is no such thing as too much RAM so get as much as you can afford.

Great shot! Wikipedia says this is an Australian Hornet which is not a hornet at all but a potter wasp as you surmised. Here is the link: Australian hornet - Wikipedia
Apparently not an aggressive creature.

Excellent work. The emphasis on HA loses the contrast of more optical wavelengths, however.

Sounds like the only way to guarantee ISO100 in an auto mode is to use the Sv mode.

This is a juvenile Northern Goshawk. It still has a few brownish bars left in its upperpart feathers. Its eyes will eventually turn blood red with age. Looks like some kind of pigeon had a bad luck day.

Developed my first roll of black and white film a couple of days ago. Decided to use my K-1 to digitize the photos rather than my flatbed scanner since I have a bellows unit with a film holder on the front. Came out OK for a first attempt but I have work to do since it looks a bit muddy. Taken with my Spotmatic, HP5+, likely 1/125, f/11. Developed in Caffenol-C-H at 19 deg C for 20 minutes, water stop bath, Ilford Rapid Fixer. Loading those Paterson reels is a pain in the keester. Replica Bridge by Jack Bowling, on Flickr

A first guess would need date and time of exposure to nail down a starfield.

Great shot! Yes, there has been great debate whether to rename this species the Ring-billed Duck instead of Ring-necked. But nomenclature in biology has a strict policy that priority for naming rests with the discoverer (note: obvious cultural bias here since Europeans were NOT the original human discoverers of almost all North American species). So the faint chestnut ring around the base of the neck that is only seen if the bird extends its neck is what the original name memorialized instead of the easy to see rings around the bill.

Awesome! Young cranes are called "colts" for some unknown reason. We don't see the babes until around June at my latitudes.

I do not have an Epson printer but do have the Canon G3000 with the refillable tanks. I have found that to prevent the ink draining from the black feed line, I need to do at least one print/day. So I made up a cron job from my linux box to print a short message at 10:15 am daily. So far it has prevented having to do a deep clean every time you leave the printer for a few days. Perhaps this also applies to the similar Canons.

I have about 3/4 of the items in that case. Just for interest sake, what is the one lens shown?
