A agree with rodaballo - this is seriously good work. Very inspiring. I haven't managed to find you on Flickr, but the detour to other sites to see your work is well worth it.

Although my GR is showing no signs of giving up and I'm not at all looking to replace it, I too am eagerly waiting for a successor. Maybe a dustproof/WR GR with the sensor from the KP? I'd be tempted :)

I have just discovered you, Chris, and instantaneously "favourited you" you at flickr, too. As a very recent GRII user, I fell your pictures extremely interesting. Some of them are haunting. May they serve as an inspiration for those who are not used to look in the way that you look at the world.

Very nice photos! I feel like reading a travel magazine that was blended with an art photo magazine. Each photo is well composed, sharp and well-focused, nicely processed..
Thanks for sharing and bringing us closer to that country!

Hi Chris,
Now at home and able to view your B&W shots...love them... that reclining Buddha in Rangoon is fantastic...will try to convert mine to B&W. Met a country mate of yours in Bangkok on the way to the Myanmar embassy getting a 2 year 'meditation' visa. Hope he is adapting well. Found Myanmar very raw...wish I had more time and $ to see more.
Cheers

Just got back from Northern Thailand, Laos, Viet Nam, Cambodia and a side trip to Burma (sorry but it will always be Burma.) My Dad's RCAF squadron flew out of Rangoon during WW2. Have to say the country was much differant and seemed to be in a time warp much like Cuba . Did you ride the circular commutor train in Yangon for a $1? Would have loved to gone to Bagon but time and $ were running short.

Thank you, fantastic travel photography! Myanmar (and Bangladesh) are high on the list for my next extended trip :)

Out of interest, which lenses were you using with the A7?

Just curious, what does your DIY weather-sealing on the GR consist of?

Ricoh keeps on patenting new primes for GR. They should make it ilc.

Google Translate

QuoteQuote:

Patents Ricoh 26mm F1.8 [optical technology and lens design]

Ricoh is 26mm F1.8 of the patent is pending.
embodiment1: 26mm f/2.0 (APS-C)

embodiment4: 26mm f/1.8 (APS-C)
Description and self-interpretation of the patent literature

  • Patent Publication No. 2014-81485
    • Publication date 2014.5.8

    • Filing date 2012.10.16

  • Example 1
    • Focal length f = 26.00mm

    • Fno. 2.00

    • Half angle ω = 28.81

  • Example 4
    • Focal length f = 26.00mm

    • Fno. 1.80

    • Half angle ω = 28.8

GR family

GR The current Leica format equivalent 28mm (actual focal length 18.3mm) you can get the angle of view. The use of Waikon GW-3 21mm terms , the use of the crop in terms of 35mm , 47mm conversion can be used as.
If there is a GR family, angle of view that do not overlap is good. The optical system of the patent application is 26mm so, in terms of Leica about 40 mm . Once upon a time, Leica and Minolta is, the Rights Minolta CL for 28mm 40 mm 90 mm because I was the lineup, 40mm conversion might be just good.
[0147], it is also suitable for use as "interchangeable lens camera for electronically interchangeable lens" by the unit as a photographing lens unit this.
The optical system of the pending, can also be used as an interchangeable lens for APS-C for so 14.3mm image height, but it would be for GXR GR or back focus is short. Seven pieces of six groups, lens configuration is two on one side aspherical. AF would be slow because it is a front group feeding.
performance
Example 1 Example 4 Inf Mod Spherical aberration, astigmatism, distortion, from left to right, vertical coma aberration.
Distortion is zero

Do not have a case "I do not know why, but for some reason appears to be high quality" and. One of the reasons is the distortion.
Pixel resolution, even if bad, rarely be a problem as long as reflected in the sharp viewing size. But only distortion is not changed even if reduced. If distortion of 1% if, confirmation of distortion will be difficult for example if 100 or the number of pixels in the diagonal direction, but confirmation of the image too difficult.
Example 1, F1.8 is a lens of F2.0 instead, but the distortion is almost zero. Because it is optically zero, there is no image quality degradation caused by digital correction of distortion. While the current wide-angle GR also called conversion 28mm, it was very little distortion. Straight line, so goes to a straight line, I seem to get a picture good feeling that was refreshing.

Also happened to me, i use my K-5 way less often then I used to after I bought the GR. The light weight is awesome for outdoor shooting.
